I am negging deal based on my recent appaling experience with ANZ.

They lost my initial application and I was made to apply again. Took them over 2 weeks, contacted me 10 times and I spoke with 10 credit assessors. This is for someone who has been with ANZ for over a decade and all incomes are credited into ANZ accounts. Their credit assessment team is a bunch of jokers with zero brain.

My application was eventually approved but this experience will make me think 100 times before I apply for any future credit with them.

Tip: if you are existing ANZ customer with breakfree package for home loan, email breakfee team after you have received bonus points and ask them to link card to your breakfee package. Once linked, you can then ask to credit annual fee because breakfree package allows 1 fee free card. Once the fees has been waived, you can continue to use or close the card as per your requirement.

    • What about the (most) recent actions by Qantas?

    • To provide some balance, I recently applied for this card via ANZ and it was approved within a couple of days with only a single question over the phone.

In contrast St George has asked for a drip feed of documents over several phone calls and still waiting for approval, most of which defy logic as even if they weren't provided there is sufficient income without them.

    • Have you been successfully in getting the card fee waived the first year? As I've been told by ANZ the fine print part of "Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions" includes the breakfree package the first year i.e. they wont credit the annual card fee first year. But second year the card would be covered by the breakfree package fee…

      • I personally did it without any issue.

Just follow the steps i.e. receive point, co tact breakfree team to link card with package and then wait for fees to be charged and ask the same team to waive the fee.

        • don't they charge annual fee on your first statement?

    • +2

I also had a terrible experience with my most recent ANZ application. Criteria must have changed in the last year or two. This was my 3rd anz card application, the first two times I had no such issues and they'll have a history of me as a customer.

They really didn't like having to asses index funds/dividends on my application. I said fine leave it off.

Then they didn't like my payslips showing a shift loading, which has always been constant, depending on the shift we chose. So they came back and asked me to submit a further 13 weeks of payslips ontop of the 2 most recent. I asked them to just leave it off (reduce my assessed income), and they said they'd still required another 13 weeks of payslips. I said I can submit bank statements going back years that show my pay never changes. They still said no, we need to see 13 weeks of payslips.

Told them f*** it, i'm not waiting another 13 weeks for new payslips (we physically collect ours - they should really change to digital delivery).

It's not worth the hassle to deal with ANZ any more.

    • Done it twice, worked fine for me.

    • I've applied for and got numerous credit cards in the past but my experience with ANZ has just been a run around over 3 times now to the point i gave up.

  • If I currently have the anz rewards black card, am I eligible for this offer?

    • I think YES.

    • I believe so. Reading the T&C, it only mention if you held ANZ FF card in the past 12 months, not 'any anz card' so yes but best to call ANZ to confirm.

  • -4

I don't like negging deals posted by non-reps, so sorry OP. Thank you for posting this deal.

But in my recent experience with ANZ, they never pay out on the promo offer. You will be calling them again and again. Most of the time the CSR will transfer you to rewards team despite your insistence that the rewards team can't help.

So you should really think twice before paying a guaranteed $425 for a "chance" to receive $200 + "$1200"

    • +2

I have had my Qantas points credited on the next statement date after reaching the $3k minimum. Never had an issue and churned through a few ANZ cards over the years

    • +1

Have done 3 offers over the past few years, got points the month after I hit requirement everytime.

Last time was the first time with the $200 back promo and that was also on my statement in month 3.

      Never had any issues.

    • Providing an upvote on this deal to negate your neg. Both my partner and I got our promo points credited successfully after reaching the required spend.

How many times has this happened to you with ANZ? You say "never", which indicates this has happened over multiple occasions.

  • Honestly, I had the shittiest service with ANZ credit cards, took them weeks to get back to me after several follow ups, made me upload all my documents several times, never seem to speak to the same person twice, and when I had enough I told them to cancel the application. 3 months later a manager contacted me apologising for the delay in processing my application - wtf?

Even if the bonus was $1000, it wouldn't be worth the time and stress with dealing with sheer incompetence.

    • +3

You'll be back applying for it. They always come back.

      • ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I think everyone has a price, when it comes to dealing with incompetence or shitty service. Mine, it's alot higher than whatever anz is currently offering.

        • +3

Everyone complains about Citibank as well but when there's a good offer they still apply for it.

        • +1

Yep for sure. I spent about 20 mins applying for it, and got 120,000 Qantas points and $200 credited back. Worth it IMO.

  • First time with ANZ year and a half ago, no issues. Had to ring them to get the points though.

Second time a couple of months ago was a nightmare. Rejected me, didn't say why. I called them and they said there was an issue never should have happened, that their credit assessment team would get back to me.

That never happened, rang two more times and promised a callback. Never happened. Messaged through Messenger and promised same.

Then left public comments on their Facebook page and that's when they messaged me, text message came thru half an hour later saying I had been approved and paperwork came thru later in the week.

    Go figure.

    • -1

That’s a nightmare? You have had a privileged life.

      • I've had lots of different credit cards with various lenders and that is my experience. Just because you've had a good experience doesn't mean others will. And others may have good when others don't.

Sharing my experience. You share yours. Don't get on your high horse.

  • I wouldn't apply simply cause of the annual fee. I am not outlying that amount of money on future points based savings.

  • How much is 1 FF point worth?

    • Really depends how you spend them. If you get gift cards, about 2c each. However if you use it for business class flights, significantly more.

      • For 1FF worth 2 cents if buying gift card?

        So 1000 points for $20?

        • +4

I think they mentally calculated the wrong way around.
          If buying GC 1 FF ~= 0.5¢

      • +2

no sure how you can come up with such conversion rate.. i belive its way way less than 1c/point

    • +1

Well I thought they may be worth around 1c each seen people sell the on OZB for between 0.8c and 1c.
But I could not find a conversion to everyday use giftcards like Coles or Woolworths.
I suppose the points would be worth a lot more for flights, but not flying anywhere in these times…

  • Has anyone gotten their points before the 3 month period? I already hit my min spend in my first month and will be needing to "close" the card soon…

  • Shocking service from ANZ. My partner applied with a 80k income and we have over 400k in assets. Accepted the application, requested extensive evidence (market research I assume!), called my partner over and over in business hours when she had all ready replied that she is a physiotherapist with limited availability for a phone call during 9-4. Then conducted a 20min phone call at night, eventually said the income was insufficient but would you like a 1k credit limit low interest card. Outrageous waste of a future customers time and blatant information collecting when the declared income in the application was evidenced in payslips, so why not just decline based on income declared to start with? Just seems like a whole process to lure you in for a product you didn’t even apply for.

    • ANZ does have some very funny rules.. once I applied for home loan and they asked me all my expenses (paid via credit card). but then they added a port of my total credit from my credit card towards the expenses and came up with a very small loan. I questioned this and they said "that's the way we do it…"

    • -1

I had appalling service as a 20 year customer. Ended up emailing Shayne directly to get it resolved. Good on him (or his aide) for fixing it up, but yeah, was an ordeal.

      • Who is this Shayne ? Just finished dealing with them, not impressed at all, 900 credit rating and enough hanging around to clear the full balance of the card 4 times over and I cant service it? absolutely infuriating "computer says no"

        • I find they are also rejecting people in a position that's too cushy (i.e. will never enter debt with them). It's a fine line and balancing act nowadays with applications.

          • @Drakesy: I Just want the miles god damnit lol

          • @Drakesy: Yeah that was my experience with Amex.
3x upper limit of income requirement, investments completely paid off, 6 months of income in saving (able to pay the maximum of credit card 6 times). rejected.

            • @diazepam: Any reasons given for rejection? I found they were pretty annoying and asking a lot of questions that I didn't really need to give answers to, then I just said, I don't want to answer that, and they said fine… I think they must get incentives to fill the customer database or something.

        • Shayne Elliott is the CEO of ANZ… I doubt it was actually him reading the emails :)

  • +2

I can concur the horrible experience I had recently with ANZ. They basically asked for my whole financial data and submit every little documents. Waste of time.

  • Applied for the card at around 10pm on 1/09/21, got a call at 3pm 02/09/21 requesting 3 months payslips, uploaded at 4pm then received approval email and sms at 6pm. This is my 3rd churn with ANZ and its all been the exact same experience so dunno if just lucky or that im scoring the same on their assessment each time

  • I was just thinking about this and then spotted the $65 fee for additional cardholders. That's a deal-breaker for me.

    • +1

don't .. you can add the card to multiple phones and use like apple pay. you don't need physical card and pay $65

  • -1

waiting for something better… c'mon anz

  • met the spend in the first statement period
usually I get the points/rebate on the first statement..
anyway, didn't get it - now ANZ tell me I will get it after the 90 days , on the 4th statement.
not sure if they've changed anything.. never used to be this way.

    • Maybe it’s just the way they do things now.

My last churn with St George was the same.

Did you get a $55 rewards program fee? That’s a new one for me since I already had a QFF account

      • yeah but they always do that afaik - they advertise $425 annual fee, but it's just broken up into $370 and $55
one thing you need to watch with ANZ is when they ask to add an additional cardholder they make no mention of a fee for that, but then slug you later.
don't really need an extra card these days with google pay etc though.

I'd prefer the points sooner so I could churn faster.. but oh well.. it is what it is ;)

  • Way too much documentation needed. Letter from employer, 7 (!) continuous pay slips, tax return, blood sample etc

    • I just applied for citibank card.. guess the amount of documentation they are requesting.. they asked payslip and I provided, now they as for letter from employer (!) .. I suppose it does take effort unless you bank with them..

    • Tell me about it. But I was able to secure $1000 compensation because of their service failure and incompetency at various points during application process.

      • winner!

    • I got approved with just 3 pay slips.
Maybe it depends how long in the job etc.

  • I wonder why so many people have issues with ANZ, I had such a seamless experience with the application of this card and the posting of points.

Applied and approved within 2 days, made the min spend within 2 months and points posted on the 3rd statement date, great churn card.

    • yeah, fairly easy for me too except I made spend in 1st month and I'm told I prob have to wait for 4th (maybe 3rd who knows) statement.
I have a feeling I am going to have to chase them up again and that somehow it hasn't worked properly.

    • second this, AND, even a full refund of annual fee. WIN!

  • I knew ANZ were full of crap saying I needed to wait 4mths.
    Points just got posted.

  • I've noticed ANZ have just updated the TCS for this card, but the promotion site has the same 120k referenced which seems a bit dodge and they've now changed the terms to 100k pts for 3k spend in 3 months with 30k pts as a bonus after 12 months. Does anyone have the TCS from the 120K points promotion? I want to check if there was a 12 month requirement for the previous offer.

    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/frequent-flyer/…

    • I don't have a copy, but it did have 12 month requirement

    • +1

Hey, did you ever find the older TCS? I activated my card today, and when I went to look at the TCS it has obviously changed since I applied for it. It's also a new bonus offer now of 130K and $255 credit (as opposed to the older 120k with $200 credit). Should have screenshot/printed the old TCS.

Have already had a shitty experience with ANZ in just activating the card itself and registering for online banking as it's taken up an hour of my time holding on a phone call. If they do the dodge with the 12 month requirement I am going to make a complaint with AFCA.

  • +1

Ok, I found the old TCS if anyone is wondering. Here's a section from it:

"Offer available to new and approved applicants who apply for an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account. This is a limited time only offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages or promotions or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card. Offer not available where you currently hold an ANZ Frequent Flyer, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum or ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card, or have closed, or qualified for bonus Qantas Points or a credit back on, any of those ANZ Frequent Flyer credit cards within the previous 12 months. Your application must be approved and you must activate the card and make $3,000 worth of eligible purchases within three months of approval to receive the 120,000 bonus Qantas Points and have the $200 credited to your credit card account. Eligible purchase means purchases which are eligible to earn Points. Purchases which are not eligible to earn Points are described in the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward Terms and Conditions, for example fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers, and transactions for gambling or gaming purposes will not earn Points. The 120,000 bonus Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas account and the $200 will be credited to your credit card account within three months of the eligible spend criteria being met. The $200 credit will be applied to the purchases balance and does not constitute a payment under your contract with ANZ. If you transfer or cancel your new ANZ Frequent Flyer Black credit card account before the $200 credit and bonus Qantas Points are processed to your account, you may become ineligible for this offer. If any repayments are overdue before the $200 credit and bonus Qantas Points are processed to your account, you will be ineligible for this offer until any overdue Minimum Monthly Repayment and amounts shown on your statement as being immediately payable have been paid. ANZ will not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever resulting from a delay in the process of receiving and/or approving an application or activating the card. Applications for credit are subject to ANZ’s credit approval criteria. This offer is limited to one credit card application per Qantas Frequent Flyer member."

    • Nice thank you cornflakes

Yes applied 2 days before the change and was wondering if they had the balls to do the switcheroo

Will update when I find out 👍

      • It's a good idea to take screenshots just in case.

  • +2

Err thought I'd add a comment here to let people know that I cancelled my card after 2 months (met the spend, had the 120,000 points credited to my QFF frequent flyer points), got the $200 back AND called to cancel the card, asked for a pro rata refund and they credited me $370 back to my statement.

So basically ANZ paid me $100 to give me 120,000 QFF points? I think thats my favourite CC churn ever.
