Sounds like a no brainer deal really. Can't go wrong with spending just a few bucks (in currency exchange) zero bucks giving you a plan lasting over several years
Update: I paid A$109 for a 3 year plan and ShopBack initially tracked A$103.65 as the cashback (but we are told it will be updated to $109 i.e. 100% cashback as confirmed by the store rep in the comments.

Wonder if I can extend my current subscription…

    Nope, new customers only.

    • "Cashback is only valid for New Private Internet Access Customers"

    • +5

you can create a new account and subscribe the longest subscription.

      • Thought about that but I've used both of my emails already. Have a year left on my subscription.

        • +3

Create a new gmail and name it PIA+ your normal gmail name. This way it is easier for you to remember. Next one is PIA2+your normal gmail name.

          • +2

@yfxsmike: Wouldn't [email protected] just be getting your VPN credentials then?

I get soooo many peoples porn; health records and others as i am [email protected] - every time someone types in jamesXX then uses their keypad without putting on numlock; they sign me up to their stuff.

Ring videos, US vaccination confirmations; US Bank accounts, Car enquiries, Bangbrothers username/passwords - it just keeps going and going and going.

Point in case, I thought you could use your normal gmail name +PIA or your normal gmail name +PIA2 etc, not the other way around?

            • +4

@MorriJ: Yeah I've always done it +service not service+ too.

Also the . doesn't get counted in emails. [email protected] is the same as [email protected]

I also get sent the emails being asked to hand in my part of uni group work. Been tempted to reply back with genitalia drawings all over their work. I can't think of any other way to get a message to the person using the wrong email address

              • +8

@aragornelessar: Likewise with [email protected] and [email protected]

It's surprising how many people don't know about this neat trick. Even if you don't have a dot in your original Gmail address (eg. if it's [email protected]) you can quickly add in a dot making it john.smith69 and the emails still come to you.

                • +1

@bonezAU: Last time my PIA was up for renewal I just created a new account for cashback, once activated I contacted PIA support, provided relevant information to them and they added the remaining time from old account to the new one.

Could be an option if they still do this.

PS : Wasn't meant to be a direct response, my bad sorry :(

                  • @Maveot: That's ok. I am currently on a PIA 2 year plan that ends in Nov this year and I really want to try another company next time around. This 100% offer is really good but I'd be happy with a 90% Nord or even taking a look at another company again.

I've heard people have been able to stack by contacting PIA, so if they suit your requirements and you're happy then that's good.

                  • @Maveot: Do you just tell them you signed up using new email by mistake? I assume they won’t know about the ShopBack cash back?

                    • +1

@zzzman: I didn't even say that, said I had a new account and old account and wanted to see if they could merge them. They ask for a key associated with the order and that was it.

                • +2

@bonezAU: Oh jeez. I've been using Gmail for over a decade and didn't know about this dot trick. Mind blown, thank you.

                • +11

                  @bonezAU: Also
                  [email protected]
                  [email protected]
                  [email protected]
                  [email protected]

                  etc

Or combination of the above with "." anywhere in the JohnSmith part

                  e.g. [email protected]

I use blonk.y@gmail for entering competitions and I set up a gmail filter to send them all into a specific folder named Competitions
and blon.ky@gmail for newsletter promos into Spam to keep my inbox clean

                  • @blonky: It's pretty cool how you can do so many different combinations, I have found some websites don't accept the + thinking it's an invalid character but that's where the dot trick comes in… so good.

                  • @blonky: Hey that sounds like a great idea! How do you set up filters in gmail for that? Cheers!

                  • +4

@blonky: Google also owns other domains that also redirect to the same mailbox:

i.e. both [email protected] and [email protected] will arrive at the same mailbox

                    • @songyi: Brilliant tip!

                    • @songyi: How one would get a googlemail.com, wouldn't have a link by chance? Love these tricks yes using Gmails filters and folders very helpful in combating spam 👍😁

Do you know anymore interesting email domains?

https://www.mail.com (free) have a few various domains they own like there classic @email.com, also of course like most email providers can have alias emails to there account like hotmails various aliases but I do love the "." trick in Gmail as then one can have numerous combinations

                      • @Italkdigital: googlemail.com was registed by Google after they couldn't secure the "Gmail" name in certain countries.

Your @gmail.com email automatically works with the corresponding @googlemail.com address

            • @MorriJ: y r u XX n not XXX?
do u work in the adult industry?

            • @MorriJ: Hahahaha thanks mate. Spent my phone's last 1% reading that and the charger is in the other room so had to make it count.

  • What if it fails to track/claim declined down the track? Would it be still a good deal? I mean if the service quality worths the dollars paid? 🤔

    • It's a great VPN. I use it on my laptop, phone, TV. I use the three year subscription usually. Used it to get the YouTube music Argentina deal, watch broadcast TV earlier during daylight savings. Among other things.

      • +1

Just wondering how you're using it on the TV? I've been meaning to use VPN to watch Netflix US on TV but wasn't sure how to use VPN on tv.

        • Android TV plus the VPN app 🙂

Only just looked into this the other day with my Windscribe account

    • +3

IIRC under a previous ownership PIA withstood an FBI subpoena to produce details .. but currently an unknown

"Thank you for submitting a missing cashback claim.
We have appealed this missing cashback claim with the merchant and found that the merchant has deemed ShopBack ineligible to earn commissions on this transaction which results in us being unable to pass the cashback along to you."

From the last time they had this deal. Usual tracking issues.

    • +14

I don't trust them to pay $5, let alone $100.

      • +10

ShopBack did not track my most recent eBay purchase. CashRewards > ShopBack imo.

        • +6

Cashrewards tracks perfecly but all my Aliexpress orders over $500 never track with shopback and they give me peanuts and excuesses after the long resolution process.

          • +1

@Riore: I'm in the same boat, they give me the excuse the merchant denied my rebate.

No more business for Shop back from me 🙂

        • +2

After they massive leak they didn't tell us about, they became really good with this stuff to make up for it, but lately they have been pretty bad again.

    • -1

If there are any issues with tracking/missing cashback, please send me a DM so I can help resolve it.
      Cheers!

      • +3

I did already and your resolution was basically: yeah nah. you're out of pocket. you deal with trying to get a refund.

        • +6

Sorry, I can't see any previous conversations between our accounts?
I don't work in the customer service team, but I'm always happy to help if you just message me privately with your account details & information about the missing cashback.

        • I recently had a very pleasant experience with Shopback support team when my Amazon purchase wasn't being tracked. Rather than negging this deal, why not send a PM to SB friendly staff and explain the issue? I'm sure they'll be as helpful as they were when I faced the issue.

        • Leave negative review on Google Play store. That will teach me to do better 🙂

      • +6

No one should have to message or complain about the issue, once we lodge a claim and show you the proof you ask for purchase order, amount, details.

It should be up to Shop back to correct the problem. Not drag on and on sending dms etc

        • +1

I would guess it has more to do with the merchant not delivering. The rep here probably helps but probably has to pay out of pocket to cover the merchant not delivering

          • @aerona: Your wrong, nothing to do with merchant delivering.

There lazy and don't like to give big pay outs, every $5-10 they steal from a few 100 people add up quickly, it's easier to send a automated response than actually follow up.

I don't care either way they'll just lose business from me and anyone else feed up with them 🙂

      • Username checks out

      • @ gotyourback I did message you too, lodged a missing Cashback complaint, no resolution so far. I was correct in telling you that this is a dodgy practice!

        • Hey mate, as mentioned in our DM's your request has been sent off to Adidas for approval.
It can take them up to 45 days to respond to us, depending on how busy they are with these tickets.

We kindly ask for a little patience while we both await a reply from the merchant :)
          Thanks!

          • @gotyourback: @ GYB I received this email yesterday:

We have investigated and found that the merchant has deemed ShopBack ineligible to earn commissions on this transaction which results in us being unable to pass the Cashback along to you. That said, we know how frustrating missing Cashback can be, and will now take additional steps to appeal on your behalf directly with Adidas.

Frustrated with Shopback I used CR yesterday, straightway got this email:
Your cashback has been tracked from The Good Guys.

As someone pointed out above, one should not have to spend time chasing these up. All these tracking issues are not a good look for Shopback.

            • @deals4amar: Hey mate, I know the emails aren't worded very clearly & this is something I will personally be working on in the coming weeks.

But that email is essentially telling you:
We've checked your account and have confirmed that the cashback is indeed missing, we will now proceed to submit a ticket with the merchant to appeal your missing cashback.
So you just need to wait for us to hear back from them.

With regards to frogduck's comment, the merchant reserves the right to decline our commission (which is your cashback) if the order is deemed ineligible or is not attributed to our ShopBack links.
He has also reached out to me via DMs and I've given him support on the matter.

  • Only reason I'd get this is for Netflix, I use my Netflix app on a SmartTV, would it be hard to set location to USA and the App auto refresh it's library?

    • +2

from my experience PIA doesn't allow for Netflix region bypass - unless something has changed since I last tried it, been a subscriber of it for years now and its never worked

      • PIA works on Netflix for me. You will have to try many different servers that work

        • Netflix will work but typically limited to netflix made content. Very rarely can you watch US content. I have been with PIA for 7 years and it is a lot more miss than hit.

    • Like KRiSX said. If you want a streaming region check bypass I'd give PIA a swerve. I've had very little luck in this area as well. Otherwise it seems like a reasonable anonymiser.

    • +4

Netflix has gone out of it's way to not allow most (90%) of VPN. Have a quick google and you'll see which ones potentially might work, but it's not a lot

    • +1

Getflix works on my TV, but they only have USA region now. Used to have heaps of different countries.

    • +2

NordVPN has been working flawlessly for Netflix, on Android TV (downloaded NordVPN app). I force-close the streaming app, change the country, open the app in the new country. Couldn't be easier.

      • Same for me with Nord.

  • Does it auto renew after the 3 years or just deactivate?
If so, can it be cancelled on sign up?

    • +1

use a zip card or similar card or any credit card with less than 3 years expiry.

    • +1

You can cancel any auto renewal easy.

    • +1

Currently use Windscribe (Previous free 50GB deal)
Works really well, even with Netflix. Just don't have access to premium servers.

      Tempted to upgrade.

  • PIA or Nord VPN (seems better reviews and 90% cash back). Thanks

    • Would like to know as well.

    • I've used PIA for years without issue. Never used Nord.

    • +1

I have Nord and have used PIA in the past. Neither are perfect. PIA I found to be much slower but this may simply be that it was a longer time ago so VPN infrastructure wasn't as good. Nord has been great. Usually get up to 5 MB/s download which is fine for my purposes. Issue being they keep killing the app with updates. Fortunately the customer service is pretty good. They tend to fix the issue in the next update but they frequently seem to introduce issues.

    • +1

I tried Nord once or twice and the performance was crap for me (back when I was on 100/40), PIA i can basically max out a 100/40 link - unfortunately the same isn't true with 400/50 that i'm on now, still only hits around 100 down - Nord I couldn't even get close to 100

      • So you were basically getting 100% of speed with PIA on your past 100/40 plan, still pretty good if your 400/50 plan with PIA still hits download speeds of 100 Mbps, so wondering who's your internet provider and sounds like you'll surely recommend PIA for fast speed?

    • +2

Pia was purchased by a company previously known to have distributed malware. Many people have concerns regarding this. Google search for more information.

I used to have PIA and found it easy to use however after researching PIA concerns I did not renew. I am now with Nord and its great speeds with no security concerns however the app constantly updating gets a little annoying.

      • +1

I've been with Nord VPN for 3 years which finished recently. Switched over to PIA with a shop back promo about 2 months ago. Just today my Malwarebytes identified PIA service as Riskware - I'm not sure if this is coincidental, just wanted to put my experience out there…

        • Not that I'm an expert but if one doesn't use sensitive apps/websites like banking etc sites/apps with there credit card details saved etc while using there VPN wouldn't that be enough too protect oneself?, honestly how can anyone trust any VPN when ones traffic/data flows through there servers anyway

          • @Italkdigital: Often one uses it for Geo location i.e.. want to access stuff in other countries OR to bypass existing ISP from snooping on your Browsing should one want that. It's not for protecting against malware, virus's, snooping, etc although some do offer browser protection.

            • @Borg: My question was more for one protecting themselves from the actual VPN company (any VPN even the highly trusted ones) since ones traffic/data goes through there servers, so why I mentioned it would be a good idea as an example not to do any banking or any access any sites tied up with one's credit cards or sites with sensitive passwords saved etc when one is using a VPN, any VPN even the supposedly trusted ones (on the assumption that this sensitive info could be viewed on the VPN end, even if the data is encrypted)

And basically just use the VPN for the purpose only you mentioned above "Geo location etc" and then one shouldn't have any security issues at all with any VPN even the supposedly unsafe ones or as someone mentioned here PIA had few security issues in the past so one should be cautious all the time

Again I'm not an expert but having a VPN "ON/ACTIVE" on ones mobile, can the VPN company on there end for example access ones mobile without one knowing? or that's impossible but if possible they can only see traffic of data (supposedly encrypted), thats all they can see

Any experts out there to answer this,. lolz

      • with no security concerns

Didn't NordVPN get hacked and never told their customers?

    • +1

A few people saying nord struggles to track with the 90% too.

    • Both are good but Nord VPN has better speed, would love to see 100% cashback on NordVPN

PIA is a lower slower but then it all depends on the server load.

      • PIA's maxing out my 100/40 connection. Just make sure to use the newer WireGuard protocol rather than OpenVPN.

    • +2

Surfshark are good and often have 90% deals too

    • What's your usecase?

    • PIA speed is significantly better. Nord has better netflix support.

  • +3

Good VPN oveall, been using it for years now. But the SYDNEY server has been FUBAR for well over a month…

  • +1

I would be wary on tracking as I recently used the Shopback app with no VPN on (Wasn't for a PIA purchase), and it still didn't even track my purchase. I get some hit and miss with Shopback so not saying this will be your experience, but keep it in mind!

    • I thought using the app is more reliable but this sounds otherwise

      • That's what I would have thought too, except this has happened on a few occasions already (uniqlo, aliexpress, ebay for some examples).

        • has shopback tried to make amends?

          • @PeeDee: I've reported missing cashbacks, and those are hit and miss too. For the Uniqlo order I made, sounds like they got fed up with me replying to their e-mails and provided me the cashback, other times they say they'll appeal directly with the store - and then a month later say no luck.

            • @frogduck: that's such a pain in the ass. I remember going through that and as a result, I have given up. Felt that it is not worth the stress to be bouncing emails over a small claim and I've given up entirely. Just fingers cross that this will work, cause god dammit it's $109 that you are throwing away.

              • @PeeDee: Good luck :) i assume this one may be more reliable

      • The last 2 transactions I did using SB app for other shop wasn’t tracked neither. So not sure if SB app more reliable than desktop. Saved all screenshot but I guess would not help. Only small amount though, nowhere close to this one

        • I think screenshots are really good evidence. Why not of help?

    • Hey,
If there are any issues with tracking/missing cashback, could you please send me a DM so I can help sort it out?

      Thanks!

      • +1

Thanks gotyourback. I currently have one under investigation but sure, will send a DM through :) won't say no to more help!

        • +1

          Legend!

    • +3

      Same.
With my two recent adidas orders, both didn't track.

1st Order - Mobile - Google Chrome, clicked through from the website twice to the adidas site - went to cart - checked out
2nd Order - Mobile - Shopback App - used the shopback browser - went to cart - checked out

Didn't deviate or go to any other sites; stuck to the normal rules as always.
Didn't track. Had to wait and raise a claim. They came back and said no go, sorry, not sorry.
