Got this deal from "longstack" at http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?at=1738731&… - not sure if there's an expiry date to it.

Basically, as per title description - not such what else I need to say about it. I went to the local Myer just then and bought it via price matching from the Bing Lee website (as a bonus, I managed to get a black one via price matching). Seems to me to be a good price for Australian stock with Australian warranty from a large store.

Edit: as per poster below, use "PAYPAL10" when paying by Paypal for additional 10% off, bringing price down to about $430 (wish I saw that before I bought it!)

First released (internationally) in March 2011 - so nearly a year old. The next generation of tablets are on their way from these guys with a much better processor, so to be honest $478 doesn't seem like a great deal to me.

My bad - announced march 2011, released July 2011

      • -1

Still ur bad , officially in stores dec 2011 after winning lawsuit

        • +3

Yeah, but I still second pharm86. Not saying that this is a bad deal, but it would be worthwhile to just wait for a few months, for new tablets using quad core processors, they are much smoother than the current gen Android tabs. Or else, it's a great deal for people who want to have it now.

        • Australia is a small market - it was released everywhere else in July 2011

    • +9

Blame Apple for delaying it with their war on patents, bastards..

  • +2

Price match it with Office works, brings it down to $454.. not bad

    • But this would only be for black version, does anyone know a retail store that sales the white?
      Let me know.

    • OW shows it as being out of stock so I didn't check in any store.

      • -1

a year back when HarveyNorman had their A500s on sale, OfficeWorks instanly "ran out off stock". Then they had stocks again after the deal was gone. Now it happens again. Their10% pricematch policy is just a market trick and only for less valuable items.

        • +1

OW has 5% price guarantee, not 10%

  • It's on par with the iPad so yes, not a bad deal.

    • +2

It's better. That's why Apple tried to stop it being sold

  • Sign up to their newsletter and get 5% off.

    • +5

Ohh wait. Use "PAYPAL10" and get 10% off makes it a really good deal at $430.20 exlcuding shipping.

      • Damn nice find, shame I saw this after I bought it from Myer (although I needed it by Tuesday so it probably wouldn't have gotten to me in time).

BTW does anyone know about how Bing Lee does prices instore v prices online, i.e. do they match prices instore?

      • Doesnt work, tried it then.
I clicked "Use PayPal gift vouchers, rewards, or discounts"

Edit: I thought it was a paypal code which you use on there checkout. It actually must be used in bing lees checkout cart.

  • Add 16GB to the thread title

    • While the price is fairly explanatory, I also think its an important detail since pricing is dictated by storage space. Not to mention that its the actual name of the product.

    • +1

      Oops, thanks for that, fixed.

  • What do they go for normally?

Despite being sold as of December, the device is getting on a year, and due a refresh.

    • Don't know about Bing Lee, but I'm pretty sure they're usually $525 at JB Hi Fi and Officeworks.
I myself am holding out for a 10.1 with an AMOLED screen, then I'm sold :D

  • +1

Some people (engadget) argue that the 7.7 is better.

If you are prepared to pay around $430 for the 10.1, then maybe consider the 7.7 for $454 delviered - http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd…

    • +1

If you prefer/don't mind the smaller size, the 7.7 is the best screen available IMHO. It's that good!

      • Edit. The 8.9 3G is $20 cheaper than the 7.7 wifi…

    • You should be able to get the 7.7 circa $450 at retail stores by bargaining.

dont buy this, ipad 3 is on the way, march 7th unveiling

    • +2

I hope you are right, so current gen tablets prices falls down rapidly.

      • +2

he is not far off, asus transformer prime is out and packed with quad core. so next gen should be started to roll in from now

    • -1

ipad 4 and 5 is on the way too! Yihaaaa!

  • what does negotiate online mean? can u get it even cheaper?

  • -4

This tablet is quite flimsy and plasticy. Its also made in Vietnam for anyone who doesnt already know. At this price its nothing special. You are better off holding for next gen ipad3 or next gen tablets.

    • I agree. Can't wait for the iPad 3.

    • I disagree. From the small amount of time I used it, I didn't find it plasticky or flimsy.

    • +3

what's wrong if it was made in Vietnam??? ipad was made in China is it still better??? Lmao so if there was not those country which the labor fee is ridiculous low you think Australia could make it with lower price and better build???

    • +5

Get the one made in Aussie and pay triple the price.

  • +1

I don't really don't understand why some people are obsessed with Samsung galaxy tab when you can get the Asus transformer prime for a similar price :-S

    • +1

I don't get why people are obsessed with the Asus Transformer Prime when you can get a Samsung Galaxy Tab for a similar price… Matter of perspective.

      • +1

That's because the Asus Transformer Prime is current generation and this Samsung Galaxy Tab is last gen.

        • +1

I know, but its still a matter of perspective. One might prefer the look and feel of a GT as opposed to the Prime, and vice versa. Not everyone cares about current gen and last gen, there's always going to be more of those, its more of a fad than a technological designation nowadays.
And it would have been more appropriate to compare the GT to the older Transformer, as they are both of the the same 'gen' and actually similarly priced (Prime is around $700 at the moment; hardly similar). Its like comparing grapes to oranges.

    • An Asus Tranformer Prime for < $500 would be an awesome deal!

      • around $525 from bhp. after shipping.

the only thing holding me back is the wifi & gps issue. very annoying, i have my 3g xoom to play with but I may give it to my dad just a reason to get me another TF700… but yeah…. I like samsung, but for around 70 more, you get a tf prime….

        • I bought a TF201 64GB afew weeks back.

I have not experienced this wifi gps issue, I have been told it only happens when you have the GPS/WIFI/BT all turned on and then it happens, I tried and no issues.

The only things that use GPS is location apps and since it has no 3g I have to tether it to my phone, by then I never have the BT turned on.

IMO I dont believe this is much of a problem at all.

    • Firstly, any Australian stock of the ATP seems to be at least $700, so the price isn't similar at all (like what ProspectiveDarkness said).

Secondly, how I think of it is this:

      1) Realistically, there'll be at least 4 months before the new SGT is released. I'm travelling soon so that's why I would have bought it immediately regardless, but even if not, that's 4 months of use of the tablet.

      2) When the new SGT is released, it probably won't be anywhere near $430 (again, ex GST)- it'll be closer to the initial $575 RRP of the current SGT.

      3) Even when the new SGT is released, how cheap will the current SGT really get? Realistically I doubt it'll go lower than $300ish (that's what the Xoom, Asus Transformer and Lenovo tablet, all first gen products getting to the very end of their life or already replaced, sell for currently), so that's not a huge difference in money (for 4 additional months of usage).

    • +1

Yea I agree. The Samsung Tab is way over priced for what it is. I think people are buying it because of the huge marketing dollars that Samsung is putting in not because of product is any better then other tablets. With no builtin USB, no SD/microSD slots and no IR remote controllers, I would think twice before making the decision.

      • It was all about the weight and thinness for me, 100%. That outweighed all the other considerations you pointed out (though a MicroSD slot like they have on the 7.7 would have been really nice).

  • +1

Good deal. Bought the white one. Mum can get $200 off through her school and pay the difference pre-tax. Should be of good use to her.

Should have had an SD card slot though. Only thing missing.

  • The 10% off paypal made it a good deal. $479 is the new RRP for 16gb wifi samsung… so you should be getting this price everywhere.

  • Using the negotiate a deal, I got this reply.

    "Thank you for your enquiry.
Best price is $ 465 exc delivery."

    Well I guess I can't use the paypal10 with that deal then…..

    • I believe you can get more if you go instore. Sadly no binglee in WA.

  • CM9 preview just released for this tablet: https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/1Lm5iULv…
