More like, the bad stuff
Touchscreen with 250nits for sub 1000, and with these specs is a fantastic price.
250nits are no good at any price. But each to it's own
@dosada: IMO all these 250nits statements should end with …"if using outdoors under direct sunlight"
we have quite a few 250nit lenovos.. no issues
@daft009: Yep, it depends on the use case. I will buy a 250 nits display and save some money instead of getting a higher nits display which I won't ever use in outdoors. My current laptop from 2014 is 180 or 220 nits, lol!
It's really not that bad. I have a 14" version of this laptop with the 5500U and honestly I couldn't tell the difference between it and my 99% sRGB for general use. Disabling Varibright in Radeon Software helped get the brightness up from stock.
From the reviews the 14inch screen and 15 are entirely different. Color accuracy on the 15 appears to be atrocious. If someone has this model can they please post their personal opinion down below?
The only thing about this to me is the screen size, I'd prefer a 14".
Although at this price and still relatively light at 1.8kg I'm very tempted.
Is everyone on ozbargain a student? Lol. Im using my uni email alumni address and very surprised it still works with student discounts.
A lot are and those who aren't probably have kids who are.
bought this off Amazon delivered from US. Great laptop if its purely from productivity usage (aka school/work etc). Can do light gaming on low settings if you really wanted to but I don't suggest it. My laptop came with an issue with the WIFI (crashed my computer every time I changed my wifi network) so I swapped it with a better wifi card and fixed the issue.
Wasn't too many bloatware on the laptop but you can uninstall them anyway.
I had the same problem. Connected it to guest wifi with slightly different security setting and it worked. I have not tried a different modem so not sure if it is something to do default settings on Telstra modem and this laptop's wifi card not liking each other.
I tried it with a different modem (at my mates house before lockdown =P) crashed as well. Your best bet is definitely to replace the wifi card in my opinion. Was not difficult at all.
probably set for america - aka american spyware lol
on a community note next time you see it cheap on the us site please post. thanks. No- ones bothered about american spyware…
I bought it as well. Everything seems good for my young boy for school. Wondering what WIFI cards you guys bought - just in case there is an issue. He has not gone to school with it yet so who knows if he''ll have issues logging in schools WIFI?
asked chat re ETA

@sudodeal: sorry, my bad! didn't see it :)
Does anyone have access to the edu website?
Have sent you a PM.
Could I please be cheeky and ask for some instructions too 😜.
Hi doweyy, can you PM me too re access to the edu website. Thanks
Could you send me instructions as well please? Would make my job of moderating lenovo deals a little easier.
It's via studentbeans, there is a link and a pass code, one it has hit a certain limit, they will change it to a different one
Anyone with that link and passcodez can access the edu store
something similar to this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/551378
Please pm me the code, thanks mate.
Hi Doweyy, any chance you could PM me the code too please? Made an account just to ask, can't PM yet. Thanks
Hello Dowey can you please send me the instructions / code on how to get into edu website
TIA
This or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/639716 ?
can you please check the price of 14" version mentioned in https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/626574 ?
Yeah i order this one, with $976.65 which is cheaper.
I had this laptop before I upgraded to the Razer gaming one. The, I don't do a lot of gaming on my laptop and miss this one. Battery life was great and felt really well built. The screen brightness was fine. I never really wished it was brighter and turned it down many times. 400nits is great for the rare occasion you need brightness outdoors but I think most people wouldn't have a screen like that at full brightness for general use.
8 week wait for stock with 10 days until shipped from warehouse according to live chat support 2:17pm.
That puts it at around late September/start of October delivered, probably a deal breaker for a few people.5500u 8gb version is able to be shipped within a few days and for a light user it may be enough. The ram is the clincher here more than the cpu I reckon.
Yeah, it seems shipping time is a bummer.
Ordered IdeaPad Flex 5 14" Platinum Grey 82HU000FAU on July 7, 2021- Then it was 6-8 weeks for delivery. After that the delivery date is getting getting shifted by addtional 3-4 every now and then.
So finally I'm here:
Expected to Ship : November 30, 2021
Expected to Arrive : December 9, 2021Prob due to floods in China
Rep over the chat said they have problem sourcing 250nits screen and other semiconductors. I sarcastically said then go for 500nits screen. He replied back saying its preconfigured laptop so screen can't be changed, LOL !
Weird Flex but ok.
Do Lenovo customer support in the regular online store match the education pricing?
Not when I tried last time. But no harm in trying !
crazy low price for the spec
Bought it a month ago from the education store at $1016 with a manufactory date of 29 May 2021. Luckily, I only waited for 3 days. I am very happy about the performance. no problem using it indoors.
I bought one of these a couple of months ago and ran into an issue where the display stopped turning on even as the laptop powered.
Looks like a fairly common issue as far as I could tell so I just ended up returning it and am still awaiting the refund.
Beautiful laptop otherwise, screen was a bit dim but the performance was mint.
Price increased back to $1169. My order got canceled somehow.
Shipping time: Late December :/
