OzB's more favoured disposable mask just got cheaper with the code. Buy up to 4 for even more discount plus cashback incentives.

50pk Disposable 3 Layers Face Mask $4.90, 100pk Disposable 3 Layers $8.29 with Plus membership.

I believe shipping is free for anyone. but note the delivery times of about a week or more based on my area anyway.

EDIT: Thought it might be worth noting that the materials may have changed from the past, despite the item link being the same. The 'Meltblown' description on the item title is no longest listed (compared to when I bought it in Jan), but is still listed in "Materials" under Item Specifics. Will update again when I receive mine to compare it to the original, which honestly I had no issues with. These are still better than the ones they hand me at work, for example.

EDIT2: The masks are in and I am very disappointed to say they were definitely of an inferior quality, and almost a completely different item. As some commenters said before, it feels almost like tissue on some layers. The masks come vacuum sealed and compress into a small pack, which goes to show how much less material is being used now.

The better quality ones I bought in January were manufactured by "Sichuan diweiyi Electronic", but the new ones are from "Tainouer". If you're after a cloth in front of your face to avoid a fine, these will do but nothing more.

think i got these in the past, pretty thin and shitty quality but you won't get a fine.
not thick and nice like the proper ones, but get what you pay for i guess and pretty cheap

    • Would you wear one of these next to a confirmed infectious sars2-cov-2 person?

      • Nar but better than none

      • For personal protection I would recommend nothing less than a fit tested N95 mask.

P2 masks are only really effective at protecting others if the wearer is infected.

    • Yep they sell 2 different kinds, the vacuum sealed and the one in a blue packet. Blue packet is thick. Green sealed one is thin and the ear rings get stuck to the package

  • Thanks, bought 100pcs

  • Can someone please confirm a fact here. Does the home made cotton mask(with 1 layer) really work against virus?

    • +2

      No

    • Government should ban these masks.

As Turd said. There are some "scientific" but basic tests of material mask efficacy if you search. Generally poor.

Disposable masks with 3 layers (middle layer melt-blown) and nose wire are adequate for some purposes.

Remembering this basic point - masks (in communities) are primarily to LIMIT asymptomatic carriers from spreading the disease.

  • They will protect you from getting a fine but can't guarantee with other aspects

  • More than likely these are non surgical/medical masks and if so the middle layer may simply be a thin piece of tissue paper instead of the Melt-Blown Non-Woven material.

I only buy them to use when I need to cover my nose and mouth from the dusts to prevent hayfever symptoms. If I had to wear a mask to go to public places I wear the surgical one.

One easy way to test the material of the middle layer you cut the mask open, remove it from the mask. Try set it on fire with a lighter, MB non-woven will only melt but tissue paper will burn straight away.

Another thing to look at is that these masks are likely manufactured by some underwear factories or some electronic/technology companies, if that's the case, these masks are not for surgical/medical use.

The seller really should make it clear to the buyers.

They used to sell good quality masks.
Last batch I bought however was really bad.
    The loop broken easily.
The nose hard wire fell out from the seam.
    The clothes feel thinner.

I'll update here once I receive my own delivery as well, the ones I bought before were fine for its purpose and cost but it was a while ago.
Having a closer look, it does seem the words 'meltblown' have been removed from the item description, when it was there back in Jan which is when I bought it before.

I'll update the body to note this difference

I'm updating here now that it's in, as promised. I am very disappointed to say they were definitely of an inferior quality, and almost a completely different item.

      • Thanks for your follow up CR. Have you run them under a tap to see whether water drains or pools? That's one indicator of the absence/presence of a melt-blown middle layer often not found in so-called "fakes".

Outbax Camping has a reputation for selling cheap products (like solar panels, LFP batteries) which don't live up to the advertising so it's caveat emptor there.

Just gave it a shot and I did hold the water within the mask, so that's a pretty decent sign. It goes through the layer closest to your face, but the outer-most layer does a surprisingly good job at holding the water in. Still doesn't change the fact the overall quality feels worse but its not as bad as I originally thought.

@ChesoRepresent: More hints and tests here if you want to go the whole hog.
            https://jayaone.medium.com/how-to-know-if-your-mask-is-the-r…

            • @[Deactivated]: Might do it for my own sake, but it's probably not too useful for the OzB community since it seems that the supplier can change at any time due to their own supplies/costs so what I test may be different to the next order. A summary we could take away from this is that it's probably safer to assume you'll receive the one of lower quality to avoid disappointment, and to buy accordingly.

Tip: I use a hammer to smash the covid particles before they get to me. Unfortunately I often end up killing the super spreader. Having worn these masks my Lawyer reckons I will get off. Highly recommend, thanks OP.

  • Thanks Op bought 100 with code - needed all the time nowadays
since delivery is faraways - by the time you receive it - no more requirements to wear a mask.

Why anyone would want to cheap out and save a few $$ by buying cheap chinese made crap is beyond me.. its your health, spend a few $$ extra and buy quality non-chinese made masks
so many stories of the masks being defective and some even to have foreign micro particles in the masks themselves.. dodgy ASF
buying masks from the country that released it all.. lolz..

WARNING : These mask are LEVEL D, protection D which is the worst. Level A would be best.
Class D is the lowest grade for GB/R 32610 mask

"Class A is the best for GB/T 32610 mask. Class D is the lowest grade for GB/R 32610 mask. GB/T 32610 class A mask can do protection for daily use. If you go to the hospital or crowded place, you would better use N95/KN95 or above."

ebay description fails to specify the level of protection for obvious reason.
