@dealsucker: Google "Tesla Build Quality" and it confirms the fit and finish is awful.

They fall apart faster than French cars. Hell, the model Y's roof flies off!!

They're ugly as sin, the panel gaps are wildly inconsistent, the electronics are poorly installed, there are blemishes throughout, panels fall apart and I wouldn't bring plastics into it considering the Model 3's plastics basically fall off it.

            Check this for example (https://www.autoevolution.com/news/tesla-model-3-performance…)

Chinese-made cars are even better build quality than Tesla.

MB is far superior in every way to Tesla as you would expect from German car vs American car.

I'm all for EV but they'll be worth buying once BMW and MB start making them.

            • +2

@imurgod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciMY_MKKGpM —> This isnt "superior" in any which way. I am not defending Tesla but Mercedes doesnt "smash" it either. As for one off incidents like roof flying off, look up internet with issues with any German luxury car you will find thousands.

Most of these so called panels gaps by the way can be taken care after delivery by the way. Yes they can do better and yes they shouldnt be there but such is the competition that I can't find an equal car even if I pay more.

              • @dealsucker: Well MB was the 1st car manufacturer, of course in 100 years you're going to have a couple of anomalies, Tesla has been making cars for, what, 13 or so years? Far too many QC issues for that time.

Let's wait and see if Tesla is even around once EV become mainstream.

You should not have to take a brand new car to have the panel gaps, trim and paint blemishes repaired. That's ludicrous (he he).

I agree there isn't much competition at the moment, which is why almost any Euro will be better right now.

Once EV are more commonplace and more manufacturers make them, nobody will touch Tesla.

                • +2

@imurgod: No MB isnt the first mass EV manufacturer, Tesla is. And "lol" to "see if Tesla is even around once EV become mainstream..". They sold half a million cars last year on the back of two models - majorly Model 3 and this year, Model Y is already sold out until Q3. They sell every car they make and do not offer massive discounts either.

You are assuming that Tesla is going to sit on their laurels and wont do anything. It amuses me how little people understand Tesla as a company and yet see it fit to make wide ranging proclamations on how "competition is coming" and how "Tesla is just doomed". Lets see in 3 years time frame - I am here and so are you. Tesla is cool in a way that Mercedes/Audi/BMW will never ever be. Heck I would take an upstart like a Lucid or a Rivian over a comparable German any which day.

As for Euro's, they are shit cars. The most expensive Euro's wont even last as long as a humble Corolla. Their cheaper cars are even worse which is why except Europe, most of the markets swear by Japanese cars.

                  • @dealsucker: I know you're triggered, but try reading what I wrote. I never said MB were the first EV manufacturer.

Tesla is just the gimmick brand for now as there are no viable alternatives at the moment (which is why they sell) but you're high if you think that once Euros start going EV, that anyone will consider a Tesla given their awful looks and build quality.

As for your misinformed comment about Euros, you'll find tons of examples of Merc engines doing over 500k miles. Let's check a Tesla with 100k.. There'll be 50% of it left and some leftover superglue. Did we go into how the panels are paper thin yet?

"Tesla is cool in a way that Mercedes/Audi/BMW will never ever be" ha ha ha the same way a skateboard is cool for someone who can't afford a decent car.

We get it, you hate European cars. You've obviously never owned one or you bought a 20 year old BMW to pretend to be "cool" and couldn't afford it.

I'm not saying you can't buy a Tesla, be my guest. Enjoy it! But it is not in the same class as Euro in any way. It's just a plastic toy.

                    • +3

                      @imurgod: Oops —> https://electrek.co/2019/11/30/tesla-model-s-1-million-km/

The most valuable car company in the world is a gimmick? I dont hate European cars, I hate expensive for the sake of being expensive poorly engineered cars. But then again, they have gullible's like you reinforcing their belief in their shitty cars. I would never put my money on a Euro crap when I can buy a Tesla for the same money.

                    • +1

@imurgod: Wow are you a hundred years old?

                      • @onlinepred: Yep that's a good one. By your handle, you clearly like them much, much, much younger.

                        I can see your I.Q. isn't 100.

                        • @imurgod: Age didn’t help you with comebacks it seems. Maybe you need a few more euro luxury cars to improve. You are so insecure, so incredibly insecure, you really need to work on that champ.

            • +5

@imurgod: I recently took delivery of my model 3 and was certainly nervous considering all the negative publicity, but I can honestly say it is near-flawless. The bumper is ever so slightly mis aligned, but you can only see this if you're squatting down in front of the car.

After carefully inspecting the tesla, I had another look at my A45 AMG and actually noticed several issues with panel gaps and misalignments that I had never noticed as I never went over the car with a magnifying glass, so to speak.

              • @Monty711: Fair enough. Maybe your A45 was in a prang?

                I haven't had a single issue with my C63.

                • +4

@imurgod: Now we know why he is so insecure. His C63 will be creamed by a Model 3 Performance and there is no ICE equivalent to the new Plaid Model S that he can buy. Not to mention worrying constantly about high servicing costs, engine oils, various fluids and filters and to top it all, he is a liability on the environment too. What a sad sod to be.

                  • -1

@dealsucker: Keep telling yourself that, poor boy. I can afford it easily, just like I will when a quality EV is released, not an American cardboard and glue piece of rubbish toy for the clueless.

I'm not the insecure clown that got defensive right off the bat over a factual comment (and I haven't started on the damage done by Tesla to the environment. You're obviously unaware that you'd be the liability there too).

No point having a quick EV that falls apart while you drive it.

Keep some superglue on standby, it's OEM.

Now do how it's my fault that you can't afford property.

      • +3

You could match the interior tech of the Tesla by gluing an ipad pro to the centre console.

        • +1

Then why dont you and why dont countless other auto manufacturers? You know Mercedes cant write software like Apple and Google's of the world?

          • @dealsucker: "Waaaah mummy, the people on the internet are upsetting me again!!"

This is really upsetting you, huh?

            Must be a Millennial.

            • @imurgod: Okay boomer

              • @onlinepred: And there it is… I knew it wouldn't take long.

You don't even know what a boomer is. FYI, I am far too young to be a boomer.

How insecure are you? All you've done is act needy and attention-seeking and not made any on-topic comments. Do you have anything to add to the discussion or are you still waiting to get a licence?

At least dealsucker is discussing the topic. You on the other hand, just attention-seeking and showing how moronic you are.

Now go and get your Apple Sheep-iPhone and post on insta-tiktok so you can pretend to have my life instead of working toward actually having it.

The thing is that, despite this sad, little exchange on an internet forum, you and I both know that by the end of the year I will be in a brand new 911 and you'll still be begging your mum to let you drive her Hyundai Excel.

                • @imurgod: Haha point proven! Thanks mate! Couldn't have ended it better than that. Literally the definition of insecure ROFL. Can't use intelligence so just reverts to insults lol. Just like Trump, he also talks about IQ and wealth lol, and he's a dumb little idiot.

                  • @onlinepred: Yet he has been the leader of the free world.

                    What have you achieved?

Exactly. Sit down, be quiet and pay me rent.

You see, failures all revert to jealousy instead of action. Just like you do.

I'd tell you to learn from it, but if you were capable of that, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

                    • @imurgod: Hahaha he was the president of US, not North Korea haha.
At the end of the day, he is an incompetent idiot with low IQ, yet all he talked about was being self made and being "so smart" (both of which are false). Man other idiots gave him a chance at running a country, he failed, we moved on.

                      • @onlinepred: I never said anything about him being smart or anything other than he achieved that position.

Considering how much of a buffoon he is, he must be your idol!

I mean, look at your moronic statements:

                        1. You know nothing about cars
                        2. You used the term "Boomer" and didn't even know what it meant
                        3. You referenced Trump in the wrong context
                        4. You though North Korea was the "free world"

You've proved you don't even have basic knowledge and you tall poppy syndrome is showing (you might need to research the meaning of that too LMAO).

                        • @imurgod: You literally have no clue about my financial situation, or my age. You are just insulting randoms on the internet, while calling them poor and you rich. Calling me a poppy? I was simply correcting you on your comment:

""Waaaah mummy, the people on the internet are upsetting me again!!"

This is really upsetting you, huh?

                          Must be a Millennial."

Anyway, clearly you are incredibly insecure, and probably miserable, hence the constant abuse of others and trying to flaunt your "wealth". Enjoy life champ. The Tesla will beat your euro trash to 100kph anyway, sucks all us regular people can buy faster cars than you hey, at least you have all your money, and IQ and “stuff”. Go back into hiding.

                          • @onlinepred: Lol when did I call you a poppy? When did I say an EV isn't faster than ICE?

You don't know what anything means (and I even told you that you'd need to research it). You must be used to looking like an uninformed idiot.

Where are you getting all this unhinged stuff from?
Put the pipe down. You've smoked yourself retarded.

I know your situation and age purely based on how you use phrases incorrectly and without knowing their meanings and how you've only trolled and not made a single on-topic point. It's really not that hard to pick you out.

Your lack of education shows, your jealousy shows and your insecurity and immaturity shows.

You are a buffoon and nothing else.

Let me know if you ever want to get off the dole, I'll give you a job washing my cars and bikes so you can at least see your unachievable dreams in the flesh.

Go away, I'm bored of you, simpleton.

                            • @imurgod: I would love to see you use actual intelligence to form an argument rather than wealths, status and Intelligence insults lol. We earned just over the value of this car in interest of our etf alone last year. Sold 2 properties too! I still wash my own cars, yours probably isn’t up to my standards to wash I’m guessing, since you are too smart to do things yourself and save more money? Anyway, blocked, thanks for the insight into boomers.

                              • @onlinepred: OK then, big boy.

Go back and read your very first post in this conversation.

                                Super intelligent lol.

          • +2

            @dealsucker: Jeez, can’t take a joke huh?

      • Tesla was the dream until I saw this video, which slightly soured the deal: https://youtu.be/vcu2YUCa0lA.

Any tesla enthusiasts in the thread that can maybe debunk some of these concerns?

    • +9

I will politely disagree, my parents have both bought equivalent cost Mercedes (GLE300 and a C300) in the past 12 months and I far prefer my Model 3P across the board, interior, exterior and how it drives. The Mercs feel like tractors after stepping out of my car (both mercs are diesels tho)

Also disagree on charging infrastructure, there is a half a dozen free charge points in my town, and superchargers on the highway up and down the coast. Chargers are not everywhere, but its getting there, as to range, how often do you drive >4-500km in a day?

Agreed that cost wise they are a stretch for people on average incomes, but you do have to factor in not paying for petrol or servicing.

      • No need to service? Or does it come for free?

        • +12

Servicing is not free but there is no real servicing. The Cabin Air filter should be replaced at approx 2 years $150. The BRake fuild should be checked every few years and replaced if moisture in it ( if required ). Thats about it.

The major cost in Tesla ownership is speeding tickets

          • @Squeezy: If you order the air filters from Tesla, they're $28 each (you need two), you can fit them yourself. Instructions are on the Tesla website, plus a thousand Youtube videos.

      • +1

No matter how many chargers we have across the country, the most important is that you can't find one when you most needed with a flat battery on the road.

Solution: Take a petrol generator with you.

        • +1

Or just use the built in trip planner

        • Solution: Take a petrol generator with you.

You can find power lines on pretty much every road. Easier to steal from the grid, no?

          • @salmon123: Yes but you need a suitable transformer for express charging or you wait 8-10hours to get it recharge and go again

            • +1

              @SnoozeAndLose:

or you wait 8-10hours to get it recharge and go again

I'm sure you'll have enough juice in <2 hours to get going again.

    • Drive one then get back to me.

They are better than any comparable ICE car, sure if you like the Euro gaudy bling interiors that they can “luxury” over there then go for it.

    • +2

Lack of charging infrastructure? Check out the map on Plugshare. There's heaps of chargers in any major city.

If you're worried about range, buy the Long Range version. Agreed it is tough for people on average incomes though.

      • Holyshit. Never thought the charging station is everywhere. I am really amazed there are a lot of charging station.

Isn't it already dead ? Read somewhere KIA is killing stinger line completely.

      • +1

All of Kias cars will dissapear in favour of fully designed electric platforms in time from the looks.

Ive been debating buying the stinger for a while now, im waiting to see how much the EV6 GT is out for before making my mind up.

        • +1

EV6 GT will be $100k+ in australia. I just picked up my Stinger GT a few weeks ago, very nice car, build quality and performance for the price. I did consider Tesla model 3 but happy I went with the Stinger. People like to hate on the Stinger for the Kia badge (seems like a cool thing to do as shown above), but i'd put money on them never sitting in one, let alone drive one. I havent had any negative comments from people after they've seen it in the flesh.

      • killing the development, not the production. this is true for almost every car company for ICE platforms going into 2030.

        • +2

Wont be that much, look at prices overseas

          • @Franc-T: You can't compare ev car prices. The model 3 was at one point AUD$40K thanks to rebates in the states. While Aus still has coal stuck up their a$$

          • @Franc-T: YOU look at overseas prices… for the current EVs like Kona, Niro, then look at the prices here.

i see no reason to expect the trend to break.

maybe the next lineup in 5 years after the chinese come in and push the prices down, but i don't have high hopes for this round of ioniq/ev6.

          • @Franc-T: People have and that's why it's expected to cost much more than Model 3. It's about the same as Model Y with far less features.

Can't see how it will sell here.

    • yeah been looking at some kia, audi, etc and this would prob tip me towards a tesla

classics. numbers of them can only go down, not up, so it stands to reason that the price can only rise. people who get a bit of money and straight away buy a brand new merc, bmw or what have you are just wasting it, those cars are for people who can afford to buy a new one every few years like most people buy a phone every few years. my mums got a top of the line lexus from 2007, my dad bought it for her when it was new and now it's worth about 10 grand.

If there's one thing welfare works best at, it's subsidising luxury items for well off people…

        • I reckon what they should’ve done is something similar to the ACT, interest free loans (don’t be stingy like them, increase the limit), free stamp duty and free rego for a couple of years until the distance based charging kicks in. Why are hybrids part of this is beyond me…don’t they still chew petrol? You need a carrot to entice people, I get that but throwing money at them isn’t necessarily going to get the right result.

Now that they’ve included grey market/used vehicles as part of the deal, the flood door has been opened and a lifeline thrown at the importers.

  • Could you buy in NSW then register in another state eg ACT?

    • You'd need to haven an address in each state to register it to - plus you'd pay about $1k again to transfer rego. Still a saving, but some work needed

  • No info on WA incentives means WA doesn't offer any incentives yet ? That sucks

In a real world range test by channel 7, Hyundai beat the Tesla and a few other ones.

    • No idea why someone negged you, here, have a '+'.

In the test I saw Hyundai indeed got a lot closer to the promised range than Tesla did. I assume that's what you're referring to.

Overall, looking at features and price, arguments can be made for either, depending on your taste.

I for my part am glad there's competition and that mainstream car companies start offering decent EVs too. The more different cars we have to choose from the less excuses to keep driving dirty old ICE vehicles.

      • its like saying in a real world test samsung galaxy beat iphone in x y z test

people still want the iphone as a status symbol and aesthetics

Hyundai are doing great work in EVs but they are still behind Tesla.

No it didnt beat it, it came closest to the advertised range. It is another matter though that the slowest Tesla is still a few seconds faster to 100 and has a much higher top speed, much better technology both software and hardware - the motors and the battery etc.

And the Tesla also costs less. It's a vastly superior car. I just drove a base 2021 Model 3 SR+ from Melbourne to Lakes Entrance and back again. Because it was the base model, I thought it would probably need a charge on the way, but it made it without a charge. It's an extremely good car for $65k ish, I was very impressed. It's not as good as the Model S, but It's almost 1/3 of the price. And because it's so efficient, and it has a small battery, charging takes no time. On the way back I stopped at for a quick top up at Moe (not because I needed to, but because my GF wanted a coffee). The 350kw chargers had been smashed by locals, so only the 50kw chargers were working (and a guy in a ute had ICEd the two non working chargers and one of the two 50kw chargers). Even then, I put it on charge (discounted by the RACV), and the car went from 67% to 91% while we walked the 200m to Mcdonalds, ordered a latte and walked back. It was something like $8 for the charge too.

  • Great deal

Now if only the Liberal Federal Government got out of the stone age and supported EV with good policy. Europe gets so much more choice on EV, and we get basically nothing because the car manufacturers won't touch us due to zero direction from the Government. I think VW or Volkswagon recently came out and admitted that their old tech gets sent here and to 3rd world countries because of our useless Government.
