  • delayed my order until the government pass the bill.

  • Bought 5, thanks OP

  • How do I get the Tesla corporate program discount?

    • Work for a partner in the program.

  • Too poor to buy this thing, one day surely one day

  • We would get it in WA, but it would have to do 2 weeks hotel quarantine

  • I wish they would do a motorbike already.

    • there are many ebikes

Upvote for the Waived Stamp Duty $2,325 and EV Rebate $3,000. The car is still overpriced.

    • How do you figure? It has the performance of cars twice the cost.

      • Well based on your argument I don't need the performance of cars twice the cost. Comparable performance to a similar sedan is good enough if that results in half the current price.

        • +2

Which similar sedan is half the price of a Tesla Model 3?

          • @ballistykx: The new Toyota Yaris is half the price :)

            • @leiiv: You’re joking, right ?

            • @leiiv: Yes, but there could be some people who really think they are similar.

          • -2

@ballistykx: Corolla drive away $29736.5 (49.7% of the price)

            https://www.toyota.com.au/corolla/sedan

            • +4

@bigbadboogieman: If you’re comparing this to a Corolla, you really don’t have any idea at all…

              • -2

@Umar511986: @Umar511986 if I spent the time to lookup the price of another car and post it trust me I do have a fairly good idea….

                • +3

@bigbadboogieman: If you’re comparing it with a Corolla only in terms of size and seats, then in all fairness there are plenty of other non-EV cars which are at that price range (C Class, 3 Series, Lexus IS)…
Your comparison unfortunately is unfair and biased.
On the other end if you really are wanting to get into the EV market without much focus on features, you’d find corolla like features in a MG ZS EV which starts from around 42-44K drive away.

But after driving the model 3 and comparing its features with other EVs on the market, it blows away anything presently available in that price range…

There’s a reason why people pay ~$1500 for an iPhone and in contrast ~$500 for an Oppo…

            • +1

@bigbadboogieman: Hahhaa, not really a similar sedan!

              • -2

@ballistykx: yep it's similar because it's a 5 seater, 4 door sedan with comparable space inside it. Can reach the designated legal speed limit. Although it doesn't come with a bunch of smarts like self driving features but it's half the price and probably has a bigger range on a full tank in comparison to a basic model of Tesla and it's easier and less-time consuming to fill the tank.

I do want a good EV but unfortunately the current pricing is quite prohibitive for an average person like me.

              • +1

@ballistykx: Lol. Yes, we can really stretch the definition of "similar" to both extreme ends.

        • +3

The other thing to consider is the total cost of ownership over a time period. Say over 5 years, you need to take into account fuel, repairs and resale value. Transport NSW has a good site https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/electric-vehicles/…

I think when you take into account these other factors outside of the upfront cost, an electric car and Tesla's specifically are more compelling than "efficient" ICE car…

  • Only for NSW? So, should I neg like all the butthurt Sydney people on the Dominos offer?

  • Damn, at this point I'm gonna wait until it's confirmed to be passed. With lockdowns I don't see them being able to pass it anytime soon. What a let down.

  • +4

Took delivery of my car yesterday and it is indeed an amazing vehicle, well worth the money in terms of performance and features… absolutely loved driving it back home !
Can confirm they’re delivering hundreds of them this month, saw 3 other deliveries take place within the short span of 15 Minutes I was there at the dealership !

    • +2

      Congrats!

      • Thank you :)

        • How long is it taking them from order to delivery day?

    • Does Tesla have a dealership here?

      • Yes

        • Can you explain a bit more about it? Is it the same as the other stealerships where you need to buy other cars from?

          • +4

@leiiv: Its a very different process, basically like a click and collect service. You book the car online, pay for it online, schedule delivery date online, fill all the paperwork and sign documents digitally. Your payment or finance has to be cleared atleast a day before you are scheduled to take delivery (time based appoinement).
When you arrive at the dealership, you will need Tesla app installed on your phone and your car will pop up in there. You sign for delivery on an ipad and go to check your car physically with a Tesla team member. Once you have gone through the car, they will record any concerns you have and take photos. From there your phone will be setup as your key and you simply drive off :)

There’s no haggling involved no discounts or any sort of negotiation with the dealership.

    • I'd love to order too! I assume you don't mind if the waived stamp duty, and $3000 rebate doesn't get passed? I was under the impression once it's passed we wouldn't pay stamp duty at time of purchase. Do you know how that would work for you? as you would have paid stamp duty already.

Was it the Parramatta dealership you went to?

*I can afford the car, I just like saving $5000.

      • +4

I don’t see a reason to believe the rebate and stamp duty waiver bill will not pass. Considering you already have legislations in VIC and ACT in place, there’s no way NSW legislation will not go ahead after they’ve already announced the final product and advertised it everywhere.
Its only that you have to pay for it now and claim it back in some time.

Companies like Tesla won’t be selling cars to their customers so confidently with the rebate and stamp duty waiver proposal if they didn’t already have a green light from the gov !

        • But when I check online calculator, the waives doesn’t get factored in yet still?

      • +2

Yes I ordered through Parra dealership but the total process is online, until the day arrives when you collect your car.

  • Sadly the regulation still hasn’t passed yet

  • Big savings on new electric vehicles will be backdated if legislation passes parliament

    • Sigh I wonder if I should wait for the MY22 ones

  • +1

    So tempted

    • :)

    • So was I … then I realised there are a lot more manufacturers coming out with electric cars in the next year or 2 and decided to wait a bit longer.

  • is this bill ever going to pass..

  • I might just wait for 2022 models at this point. Who knows if they will actually pass it, best to wait for confirmation at this point, and if I'm paying full price I'd rather a MY22 after waiting this long. The government aren't gonna care about angry people in NSW if this doesn't pass. If people didn't take action over lockdowns, I can't see them caring about upsetting 25,000 people who purchased EV's. I haven't been able to go 5km from my house for coming on 2 months. What a bummer this ended up being.

  • anyone have update on the NSW EV bill passing please?

  • +3

Stamp duty bill passed Lower House. Still needs to pass Upper House before you can start claiming
It should have been voted on yesterday but for some reason, its still waiting

  • What do you guys think about adding $10k for the Full Self Driving option? Is it legally approved in NSW to use it?

    • +1

Definite no. Waste of money at this point in time

    • Don't, waste of money for now. Very easy to pay and add it at a later stage if you feel the need for same price.
I did hear they're bringing out a subscription model for FSD but not sure when that will be…

There is something called "road user charges" to be charged at 2.5 cents per km?

    • +1

      From the nrma summary:

"A road user charge of 2.5 cents per kilometre ($325 per annum for the average motorist) to be introduced on 1 July 2027 or 30 per cent of new vehicle sales, whichever occurs first."
