DO NOT PUT THIS IN YOUR CAR! | Amazon Echo Auto Review UK

    • +6

      I cant watch that

      • +4

Yep the guy is a flog.

      • I'll take his word for it, I'm not watching that. Eardrums burst when I clicked the link

Why would you get this over any standard car's well-equipped infotainment system?

    • +3

Can your infotainment open your garage door or turn on your house lights?

      • +7

No but it can play Doom

      • +2

This can’t either without your phone, which can open your garage or turn your house lights on. Also your infotainment connects to Siri/google/Alexa.

        • The question was how it compared to the cars infotainment.

        • This can’t either without your phone

Most infotainments also can't communicate remotely without your phone as they don't have their own data connection.

which can open your garage or turn your house lights on

The point is not that you can already do it with your phone, it is that with the infotainment or assistant system, you can do it without using your phone (directly).

Also your infotainment connects to Siri/google/Alexa.

I dare say this product is targeted at people who's cars don't already have CarPlay, Android Auto, or Alexa (although I haven't seen a car infotainment that connects to Alexa myself).

          • @Chandler: So wait, you are saying that this device has a sim card in it?

    • +2

A better question is "Why not use your phone?".

In theory, the far-field microphone should be a reason, but the reviews are poor.

I have this and use it to control everything in my car via voice. No button pushing required. Also use it to control aspects of my smart home. No issues in the 12 months I've had it.

    • can answer mobile phone call by voice command ?

      • "Yes, Alexa can answer phone calls from callers who have a compatible Echo device or Alexa Calling on the app. However, Alexa cannot answer calls from mobile or landline numbers."

I use my Garmin GPS to answer phone calls via voice command from mobile or landline numbers. Between both units I am completely hands-free.

        • So u can't use this to talk on your phone while driving ?

          • @Hellcat: TBH I'm not sure, I use the Echo Auto to make and receive calls to/from Alexa devices in my house. My Garmin GPS handles all regular calls to/from mobile and landline.

            • @MeagerDollarBucks: Thanks for the info. I was thinking it would be a good device to talk on long drives. My car has an aftermarket stereo and the microphone is not good.

does it cancel your indicators on demand?

      • +2

My indicator auto cancels after turning.

    • -1

      or flash your headlights?

      • +1

My headlights are auto on/off, I don't touch them.

  • +1

I’ve had one since released. These work well to listen to songs, call people, listen to radio from overseas, totally hands free.

  • Waste of money. Ive been using a echo dot gen2 for yrs and it works flawlessly.

Here is a simple setup video https://youtu.be/vxFDehZN2aM

    • Not quite as convenient to use the Dot, i.e. activating mobile phone hotspot everytime when entering car, 30 second startup delay on the Dot vs 5 second on the Auto, no voice navigation on the Dot, music automatically stops/resumes when getting in and out of car on the Auto but doesn't on the Dot.
I originally used the Echo Dot 2nd gen and appreciated the upgrade when I switched to the Echo Auto.

  • Done a bit of research and there is a fair bit of negative reviews. I love the idea and I think issues (communicating with the thing) can be resolved. Really keen for the next Gen

  • I have 5 Echo Dots at home. Mainly use them for controlling smart home devices.

Bought 1 Echo Auto a few weeks back at $49 for the same purposes (mainly to lazily control the garage door). My wife wants one for her car too so I just bought another one from this post/deal.

    • I'm even lazier, i have the garage doors working via geolocation for the past year so it's controlled automatically when you approach or leave as well as normal voice control with Alexa.

I'd love an Echo Auto that has a cheap data sim so it's completely independent from a phone connection.. It would be an insta-buy.

      • How did you enable the geolocartion fracture for tour garage door to open?

  • Coming up as $79 …

    • +1

I'ma muppet, changes to $39 at checkout.

  • Has this device been discontinued by Amazon, or just out of stock after Prime Day specials?

No stock on .com.au or .com

    Just wondering.
