Transfer them to Velocity (2:1) or KrisFlyer (3:1) and see if they have better selection?

          • @[Deactivated]: Velocity Points transfer is suspended (presumably since VA went into administration last year).

ANZ has paused the option to transfer your ANZ Reward Points to Velocity Points. We hope to bring this option back to you soon. In the meantime, ANZ Reward Points can still be redeemed for a wide range of gift cards, merchandise and domestic travel bookings (domestic travel bookings currently available by calling the ANZ Rewards Centre on 1300 367 763 Mon to Fri 8am to 8pm AEDT).

  • +1

Just a heads up… getting a 15k credit card is not easy as it used to be few years back.

    • Yeah apparently anz checks everything these days.

  • +2

just approved for the platinum one :(

  • +4

To anyone who cancelled their ANZ Rewards Travel card (when ANZ removed the free flight from Sept 2020), heads up that card is part of the same rewards program so you won't be eligible for this one.

    • I realised this AFTER applying for the Platinum deal in January. Fortunately, ANZ did enforce their own terms, and I got the bonus, but it is not a risk that I will take again.

    • Thanks. I was wondering about that. Cancelled travel rewards last year. Still looking for a replacement. Wish one with domestic flight would pop up again.

      • what kind of criteria are you looking for in a replacement?

  • Good deal but $15k min is a bit steep

  • Hi all, asking for peoples opinions on what they would do in my position. Sorry if it's too open-ended or silly.

I have a credit score of 783 (Very Good?)
Applied for ANZ frequent flyer platinum March 2020, closed last month.
100% ontime repayments on car loan and credit card.

Looking at applying for home loan middle of 2022.

It it worth the credit score hit, applying for this ANZ rewards? Will my score bounce back up by when I want to apply for a home loan?

PS. I am young and stupid, will appreciate words of wisdom here.

    • +1

YMMV but I just had a home loan refinance approved (switching to St George with their cash back offer) and I have over 30 credit card enquiries in the last few years. Including 10 in the last year. Old mate asked about it but understood that I was just churning.

    • +1

Your score is meaningless. It’s the actual factual stuff (ie enquires/defaults/income/expenses) that matter and each is applied differently depending on lender.

    • +1

Had 805 last September. In January score dropped to 790 with no reason. Applied for anz platinum credit credit with 10k limit, was approved and my score still the same 790

  • I got ANZ Qantas rewards one. Anyone having two ANZ card at same time ?

    • +1

      Yes

  • equivalent of 60k asia miles or krisflyer. Not great but not too bad either?

    • +1

Not great? I think it’s amazing. Where else can you get free Kirsflyer points these days?

  • What gift cards can i get to get $800 worth? all my points are with QFF, is it worth to have a different airline points too? or too much hassle, new to the game.

  • Oooooof. Signed up for the $500 plat deal just two weeks ago.

  • Damn it did the $500 voucher offer in Dec/Jan (already closed). This deal is delicious!

  • lol damn just got the Plat recently

  • ANZ just got the churners back with this offer months after the platinum one…

  • How do they get away with thus, surely providing full details is not hard????

If you're paying interest on a credit card you're doing it wrong…

      • +2

Yep, could be 100% interest for all I care.

  • Approved. They didn't even ask for payslips.

  • something that only Anz had (so far) .. just keep in mind in the future…

I have closed my card after 11 month - so i dont get fees - all good standard process…
2 month after i got sms, that I didnt pay my card … ignored it since it looks like spam
2 weeks later another one and another one… by that time all my internet banking was long disabled (as it should, when you cancel your card)

I have called them, but since I couldnt even provide card number (i cut it and put in a bin month ago) there is nothing that they could help me with

I finally managed to make my way to the bank … (will ignore shitty treatment that I got, because not paying your card is apparently equal to triple homicide)

after about 40 min … we finally discovered that: after about a month I had $10 refund from insurance … thanks …. but that transaction along reactivated the card. How da (profanity)?!
so all the fees started to apply etc with % to follow later in a month … apparently quote unquote … your card never cancels with ANZ it just go in to not active mode… any refund reactivates it!
how is this even legal? never going back to them again (all the fees were cancelled but I was hinted during the whole process that not paying my card might have impact on my credit history) …

    • +1

I signed up for this credit card but I admit i've had a similar problem with them before.

I opened a bank account a while back and closed it a while back as well. Recently I got a few texts messages from ANZ (confirmed not fradulent) that I had money oweing. I went to the ANZ branch at least 2-3 times in person before they figured out what went wrong.

I didn't have to pay any of the outstanding fees because it obviously was a mistake but yeah I agree, ANZ is easily the worst bank to deal with out of the big 4. This deal too good to miss though.

      • +1

ANZ used to be a very good bank but something changed a couple of years ago.

      • That sounds horrid. Westpac easily the worst for me so far, wasted so much of my time and they have just been so incredibly incompetent. Cannot wait to churn away from them this month.

    • Interesting. I recently got a refund on a closed ANZ card and dealt with them to get the amount transferred.

No mention of the card being reactivated. I will have to monitor for any funny business in future …

    • +1

      That is really shitty.

I closed a Qantas credit card (managed by Citigroup). I received refund on that card 6-8 months after closing the credit card (cancelled flights due to COVID) and they sent me a cheque. I was very impressed and assumed that this would be with all banks.

    • Sounds fishy. I've received at least 6 refunds on closed cards in the last 12 months including ANZ, they either send a letter asking for BSB and account or just send a cheque.
      Easy as…

    • Past history with HSBC , if the closed bank account received a refund I'd get a cheque in the mail. Dodgy practices definitely if they re open the card.

Genuine question - why people care so much about credit history in Australlia? It's not like it's in USA where your credit rating determines interest you pay on credit cards and loans, so what else it might affect? Other then churning credit cards..

    • A bad rating could obviously make it harder to get a home loan or refinance an existing one. Having said that, I’m a serial cc churner and never fell below the ‘Good’ rating.

      • Do you know that for the fact or you just assume it can?

        • +1

Credit ratings are there for a reason and of course banks are interested in your credit card history when you apply for a loan. Yes, I’ve had a lender ask me once during an application process why I had applied for 3 cards in 6 months. Because my overall credit rating was still good and I explained it was just for the points, this wasn’t an issue. So if you have a poor credit rating, most likely because of late payments, this affects your ability to take out further loans. Plenty of stories on OzBargain from other users about this.

    • +1

I believe its more because of hype/American media influence than reality.

Its suppose to be related to home loans, but unless you're in an extremely bad position ie bottom 10%, its pretty easy to get a loan. Loan's are more based on your income vs expenses.

Credit rating is more a tick box, than something that is focused on.

You often read here, people just explain why they've had a high churn rate and its pretty much accepted

  • That's really annoying, I just signed up for the crappy ANZ platinum one~~

  • Might be already discussed before but is buying say Coles Gift MasterCard qualifies as eligible spend?

    • +1

Yes it worked for me with previous $500 gift card deal

      • Thanks

      • According to ANZ terms and conditions

‘cash advance’ means a debit to the credit card account:
        (a) which results in you receiving actual cash (whether at a branch or via electronic equipment or by other means and whether in Australian currency or in a foreign currency)
        (b) where the funds are used to purchase ‘cash equivalent’ items or substitutes including, but not limited to, traveller’s cheques, money orders, wire transfers or international money transfers or for transactions for gambling or gaming purposes;
        (c) where the funds are used to purchase, or load value on, a pre-paid or stored-value card or facility;

So I'd say that buying prepaid Visa card would most certainly qualify as cash advance.

        • If purchased from a Coles store then all ANZ should see is a Coles purchase, which should then count as qualifying spend.

They aren't seeing every itemised component of every transaction. So they have no way to tell whether you've bought a prepaid mastercard, gluten free vegan burgers or extra large flavoured condoms.

          • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Well, yes, you're right, for example from same rules:

A gambling transaction is any transaction identified by ANZ as being for gambling or
gaming purposes. ANZ is generally only able to identify a transaction with a merchant as a gambling transaction based on information (including the type of business conducted by the merchant) provided by the merchant and the relevant intermediary financial institution (i.e. the financial institution with which the merchant has entered into an agreement, enabling the merchant to accept payment for goods and services by credit card). Accordingly, certain transactions made with certain merchants may be identified by ANZ as gambling transactions, even though such transactions are not for gambling or gaming purposes. The most common types of merchant outlet where this may occur are newsagencies and merchants that sell lottery tickets or other gambling/gaming products. Similarly, ANZ may not identify a transaction as a gambling transaction, even though the transaction is for gambling or gaming purposes.

However if you scan your Coles rewards card this information becomes available to anyone who would want to pay for it so it is technically not impossible to narrow it down.

            • @[Deactivated]:

              yes, you're right

Already knew that but thanks :)

if you scan your Coles rewards card this information becomes available to anyone who would want to pay for it so it is technically not impossible to narrow it down.

Theoretically perhaps, but there is zero evidence of that so it's not worth worrying about. Keep calm and carry on buying flavoured condoms.

              • @UrMumsOnlyFan: $2000 worth of flavoured condoms?

                • @ltwo: Be reasonable. $1,996 ought to cover it.

Then use the remaining $4 to buy a Gaytime.

            • @[Deactivated]: @DainB so did you buy any Coles gift card? interesting in buy the 10% off Him/Her card? but still confused after reading your comments

  • Is there an expiry date to this??

  • Just a reminder for those who have held ANZ travel adventure card that you need to wait for 12 months after you close it

  • ANZ being super aggressive on these offers recently wow… Westpac is the only other one that has been offering first year free cards recently with big bonus points.

I think we won't get a big bonus points offer from the likes of Bankwest ever again…

    • Well, Bankwest is owned by CBA, and neither of them have had any decent CC offers in the past couple of years.

      • I signed up for the Diamond rewards with Commbank, $5k spend for 100k points.. Done the spend in first few weeks, and points turned up yesterday. Got the $500 gift card and will close the account after my next credit report update.. Not a bad deal if you have a big spend upcoming.

  • my credit score actually increased by 37 point after applied for the last ANZ reward with $500 bonus offer. It was unchanged in the last 4 months until that ANZ credit application.

    • How did you check your credit score

    • What would your credit score need to be to not affect home loan or refinancing application? And how many points iss your credit score affected each time you apply for CC?

      • that was my intention to find out as well. I just started monitoring my credit score for about 10 months and I haven't applied any cc within that period only until the ANZ reward $500 bonus offer few weeks ago. I am not sure what other factors but to my surprise my score actually increased by 37 points (credit savvy) and 21 points (credit score). I would like to know if anyone else on the same boat or in contrary had few points taken?

        • How many cc did you have before applying? I have 7.

  • I have an anz frequent flyer platinum, Op you sure that I'm eligible?

    • +1

Op not bank staff so …..

    • yep, different rewards program

  • Just applied, got rejected for the $500 one, wait and see.

    • Did you receive any email after submitting the application and getting a reference number?

      • No, it normally take 1 business or 2 for you to get the “auto-generated” email

        • Cool. Thanks

        • Yeah, that’s been worrying me. Didn’t receive email yet, but assume have to wait till business resumes after Easter

  • Is it possible to cancel after 1st year without affecting your credit?

    • +3

You get affected by the second you click submit button….

      • I know that but how about when cancelling? I'm sure everyone has to cancel after a year for this to be a deal

  • No fee for first year and huge bonus points. This is a damn good deal.

Pity I have to wait till June to complete the 12months cycle.

    • July for me… damn!

  • +1

Of the point a little bit. As everyone is checking their scores, is there a reliable/free service which immediately notifies you about any credit checks done in your name?

    • Those services once you register, it will email you whenever there's activity on your credit score.

      • More like weekly monthly report I think, not instant notification

        • +1

i got notified by email (maybe not instantly) when they did query on my credit score on top of the monthly email report. This is from the credit savvy (which uses Experian).

  • I also wonder if there is some renegotiation going on between ANZ and Velocity… the transfer rate used to be 2:1 which seems to be quite generous of Virgin. Occasional 15-20% transfer bonuses as well, which is a potential 1.2 VFF points per dollar. Maybe the transfer rate might change if does come back… dunno really. Though some other banks transfer Velocity points at 2:1 as well (Flybuys included).

  • Applied last night, given a reference number and email to be sent with further instructions but no sign of email yet. Is this normal?

    • Public holiday, yo

    • +1

yeah, the email didn't come right away but came about an hour later for me I think.

  • Those with existing Anz credit cards used to be able to call up qouting new application reference number and asking approval team to split existing limit and get approved on the spot without having to submit payslips etc. Is this still the case?

  • Here's a question I haven't seen answered by Churners..

If you use this card for the extended warranty on a purchase for example. After cancelling the card, do you lose that benefit?

    • Yes aĺl card warranty end when you cancel a card. Anyone know when this offer ends?

      • Unlike other banks, ANZ don't publish the end date. If the deal just announced this month, my gut feeling (and hope) that they will run till end of June (EOFY).

Another recent promo from St George is running till September.

  • I am interested in this one…I would like to buy a new phone on a online shop and has to be an online shop because the variant is not available on local shops. In that case, can I still get $700 cashback? and how?

    • Online shopping should still contribute to spend for the bonus points. Its mainly the government, post services where it might not count.

  • +1

Seems very tempting until I read peoples tales of woe in the application process.

  • Do they asked for payslips?

    • You bet. How do they know where your income from? They are not the ATO!!!

  • Can I pay using direct debit with this card?

    • Yes. I don't know if any CC (or debit card) not let you do direct debit.

  • If you already have the 75000 frequent flyer card, will you still be eligible for this one?
