Earn 10 Qantas Points Per $1 on Apple Digital Gift Cards @ Qantas Marketplace

820

Equivalent to 20x Everyday Rewards (EDR) points if you convert EDR to Qantas Points anyway.

Make sure you drag the slider in the "Points Plus Pay" box to 0 points, so you pay with cash only and earn the full bonus points.

But significantly easier as no need to go into the store and hope the Apple gift cards are in stock.

All denominations seem to be eligible ($25, $50, $100, $200, $250, $500).

Literally just bought with 10x Flybuys today. Not sure how which is better

    • +1

Assume you mean the 20x flybuys in store deal? If you're converting to velocity points, you could wait for the next transfer bonus from flybuys -> velocity. That would get you marginally better value than this deal if you value qantas points similarly to velocity points.

If you don't care about frequent flyer points then this deal probably won't be of much interest anyway.

No chance of getting scammed by people who have swapped out the gift cards in store
Happened a couple of days ago to a friend who unfortunately didnt know it was a thing

      • Woah… seen this mentioned a few times now. What's the scam?

      • Could you elaborate on exactly how the scam works?
I have purchased apple cards before and they have a tamper seal at the bottom of the packet. Surely it would be obvious if the card had been opened before that.

And even if it had been tampered, what does the scammer do exactly? Pull out the gift card code from the pack and ____ ? Genuinely asking as I have no idea how this happens.

        • +1

Yeah, they (the scammers) are very creative.

From what I can gather, its not hard for them to reseal or even fake the whole package.
My mate sent me a photo of one that worked and one that was replaced by a scammer, and they were remarkably close but there were differences on the back of the package.

          • @theguyrules: Oh wow, okay that is very insightful. Thanks very much for sharing.

            • @ryefig: No problem, I think it's very important for people to know.
FYI my mate got his cards refunded by Woolies

All those scammers will be licking their lips…

  • -2

So this is equivalent to 10% ?

    • +5

      $2000 GC = 20000 QFF
20000 x 0.0012/0.0013 = $240 / $260 or even more if your lucky to find a cheap buisness class award seat

      • I thought 20000x0.0012=24?

      • hmm not bad, thanks for the insight! Definitely seems to be easier than the physical cards from Coles as no higher denominations are available / risk of tampering =(

Time to pay off my ATO debt

Actually it is time to come up with another joke :)

Why did 50 cent go to the store?

  • +8

much better than buying in coles/wws without risking of getting hacked cards.

    • I posted this above but would like to get your insight too: Could you elaborate on exactly how the scam works?

Look elsewhere in comments here. It’s been answered

  • Dang, just needed this to crack Points Club Plus with my new NAB card, but the card hasn’t arrived yet, but can’t check out with Apple Pay.

    • Off the top of my head, you can use nab app to add the new card to Apple Pay before receiving and activating the card

      • Yeah I have added the card in my Apple Pay, which works great at physical terminals, but the website doesn't accept Apple Pay as a valid payment method.

Hoping the card arrives before the promo ends.

Great deal op. Not having to worry with tampered cards and having to go in store :)

  • Brilliant. I hope this is a regular offer going forward.

  • Just for awareness, the Most Liked Negative Review complains that “you need to call Qantas Marketplace to finalise the purchase and activate the card, which is unnecessarily troublesome due to the hold queue waiting times.”

Can OP or anyone here who bought one confirm if it’s that bad? Still sounds like it’s worth the effort.

    • +2

No activation required for my purchases

    • +1

I bought last night, then I got a message telling me to call them to finalise it.

Was annoyed and left it since I wouldn’t have time to call until Friday, but this morning I got the gift card in my email… so I guess I don’t need to call anymore

    1 x Mac Mini m4 and 1 x Touch ID Keyboard = $1064 from apple edu deal.
    2 x $500 and 1 x $100 gift card = $1100 and 11000 points.

    Great deal

Oh, I went to Woolies last weekend to get a bunch of physical cards. This would have been easier and 20x Everyday rewards points = 10x Qantas points anyway!

  • This seems a lot more convenient than Woolies… and I can earn points through my AMEX card too (hopefully they accept AMEX).

    • Qantas and amex are basically BFF’s. Of course they accept amex.

  • Thinking to give my son either iphone SE or iPhone 12 (if I can find a new one). Not an iPhone user so not sure which one is better. IPhone SE seems to be cheaper in Telstra store tho (compared to Apple store with gift card benefits). Thanks

    • If you’re getting the current SE, get it wherever it’s cheapest.
OTOH, the 12 has a better processor, much better screen, better cameras, 5G and a better battery life (even if just slightly). Recommend the Tom’s Hardware’s comparison of the SE to the 12

      • +1

Get the iPhone 13, currently on sale at JB @$747. The 12 and 14, as well as the 15 models have bad raps and reputation. Constant overheating battery, as well as issues in fast draining. The 15 also has issues of the USB-C port not charging. (Don’t buy an iPhone at the moment which has Lightning port/cable.) So it needs a wireless charger. Don’t people read into these things⁉️

Btw, I buy the Ultimate giftcards when they’re on special at 15% off. The one that has many retailers on, which also includes JB Hi-Fi.

        • +1

I would wait for next years SE and get that at prob $700-850 rather than get a 13 for $747.
But depends on how soon a phone is needed

      • The current SE has the same processor has the 13. So that itself is better than the 12. The other specs are prob not as good as 12

        • You're right, other specs are much closer to iPhone 8 though. Not worth getting this version when the next SE is mean to be much closer to the standard iPhone range

  • If I need to buy $500 in gift cards, is it better to pay cash and get the 5000 points, or use QFF existing points and purchase the GC with the current 25% points discount?

    • Redeeming Qantas points on gift cards isn't recommended. Even with the 25% discount, you're still only getting 0.65 cents per point which is a fraction of what you can get from booking reward flights.

  • Thanks for sharing, I picked up a few gift cards today. They arrived in about 30 minutes. I liked the way you can view the card and then click on the hyperlink (code) to redeem them easily.

  • This is great because it was sold out at several Woolies near me. I bought mine this morning but is still processing - anyone experiencing the same?

  • im currently on velocity. Is it worth also building a qantas points card? I want to buy around 4k worth of gift cards but not sure what I can get in return for the qantas points?

  • +1

I bought a new Macbook Pro M4 Pro $3999 with 8 x $500 gift cards - 40,000 points + another 14,000ish points from the Qantas Amex card purchase and bonus point from the Qantas Marketplace. In total about 54,000 points. Nice
