Guess banks figure out their no-interest credit card product is not interesting sometime after the royal commission report, and go back to promote high interest rate credit card.

    • I am not sure I understand your comment since this card appears to have a 55 day interest free period on purchases, unless you are taking about a credit card that is entirely interest free, and if so, where do I sign up?! :P

annual fee for low is 29 if u don't spend over 1k
annual fee for low gold is 89 if u don't spend over 10k

not the easiest to find those details

    • Waived for the first year

    • So technically no annual fee, probably we spend on grocery/ozbargain more than 1k per year :D

    • Got my 200 bucks a few years ago when they had a nicer app. Now they were late to scrap overseas conversion fees so I got a free Latitude21 card only to be hit with the $89 fee for falling under 10k.

    $150 for a credit check.
    Hmmmmm

    • or $200…..

Can guarantee there's no way i'm spending $1000 for $200 only to be whacked with an $89 annual fee

        I'm all about the churn

        • Read it again, you just need to spend $1000

You can then continue to churn and burn.

          • -2

@watertight: Might want to read it again,
You'll be hit with an $89 annual fee if you don't spend $10,000. Which i can assure you is not worth the hassle.

So basically you'll come out worse off than the standard low fee card.

            • @Drakesy: Fee is waived for the first year

No annual fee in the first year.
We’ll waive an annual fee in subsequent years if you spend $10,000 or more a year on purchases or cash advances in the previous year.

  • Bugger, I don't qualify - had a low rate card late last year

    • Low Rate cards are not Low Fee cards.

      • That's what I was wondering! Thanks

or you know, invest your money where you get the best return and make your money work for you? I've held both ethical and non-ethical super historically. I also currently hold both ethical and non-ethical investments outside of super, non-ethical has continually out performed the ethical variants. It's an investment, not a charity, I'm trying to make money.

If taking $200 from a much despised bank is supporting them….it's rather the opposite for me, I consider them to be taking it up the dot from me with no Barry White and a bottle of Red beforehand.

    Low Fee credit card
    $29 fee p/a

My Commbank platinum mastercard is always $0 fees.

    • Thanks for letting us know 😊

      • +1

        You're welcome.

Just ask them and maybe they'll setup your card for no fees.

        They did for me.

Every year, as soon as the fee appears, a rebate is applied at the same time.

        • Is it the debit Matercard? Because that's the one I have already. And their debit Visa Card for the Business… not sure why they use different companies

          • +1

            @Lizard Spock:

            Is it the debit Matercard?

Nope, Platinum 55 day credit card with platinum awards.

            • @jv: Nice, thanks jv

              • +1

@Lizard Spock: It used to be a gold visa card but they changed it many many moons ago.

They wanted me to change to a platinum mastercard, but i told them only if there are no fees, ever…

After the first year, they charged me fees… I called them up, they saw the notes and reversed the charge and it's been free ever since.

    • how? part of home loan package? i never pay my low fee annual card fee just upgrade it to gold and back every year as you get 1st year free but might not have to do that this year as 1000k spent via cba rewards offers was met.

      • Nope, had a fee free visa many many years ago.

When they decided to switch to Mastercard and i didn't want to switch, they told me on the phone they'd upgrade me from gold to platinum and also keep it free, and after a glitch the first year, it's been free ever since.

$200 for a credit check isn't worth it for me.
$500 gift cards are more attractive for sure

    • Sorry Mr. Packer….I must be a lowly Peasant for getting excited for $50…

      • CBA wouldn’t approve me for the $200 crumbs anyway, they know I’ll be cancelling and churning out so they won’t make any 💰

        • +1

Does anyone really know the logic behind these approvals - I have never worked it out…

          • @watertight: Beats me.

Have had CBA cards before, excellent score on their own credit rating site (credit savvy), hardly any existing liabilities.

That means to them no late fees or interest will be made maybe 😂

      • It's about maximising return, I can't apply for unlimited credit cards, my credit rating already got whacked with churn over last 18 months so need to be selective on what to go after.
$500 is more than $200 hence I got the CBA 100k rewards points offer which is far superior to this deal…

  • Not a massive reward but CBA paid out fast in this deal. Always enjoy a quick in-and-out :)

  • sigh, where are the frequent flyer cards, guess covid is still knocking em down..

  • Question: "$0 annual fee in the first year and subsequent years when you spend $X" —> does this mean $0 in the first year (COMMA/separately) $0 in subsequent years so long as you spend $X, or does the min spend for $0 fee apply in the (first and subsequent) years ? i.e. do I need to make that min spend in the first year to get the fee waived? (if so I will go the $150 card, because I won't keep it long enough to spend $10k for the gold card)

  • +1

Damn CBA, I got my cash back within 24hrs of paying my bill.

    A+++

  • Cashback will be credited within 90 days of you meeting the spend criteria and will appear on your statement as 'CASHBACK $150' or 'CASHBACK $200'.
Cashback only available on one credit card per customer.

  • Merged from Comm Bank Credit Card Sign up Offers

The commonwealth bank has a credit card offer that gives an easy to get $200 cash back at the moment. Is this worth taking advantage of this or does the Commonwealth Bank often offer better promo offers for credit card sign ups?

      Sorry, this is a duplicate
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/609763

And just scroll through the credit card section, there's a lot of alternatives, the Bank of Melbourne ($300 back for $900 spend) one comes to mind as well as ANZ Black ($800 back for $2000 spend)
