They are doing HEAPHONE :P
I think RF wireless is not that good. Anyone agree?
It's good. These are FM transmission.
Wired > wifi/kleer > rf/fm > ir > a tin can on a wire.
Whether it's good enough is how strong it is, how much interference, and how tolerant you are for sound quality loss/hissing.
also same at Binglee: http://www.binglee.com.au/philips-shc5102-10-wireless-hi-fi-…
Why is this then a bargain?
Has anyone used these, how good is the sound quality since they are only IR not Digital (GHz)?
I've used Phillips infra-red headphones for years. They're not very good - you always get the constant hissing and being IR, there cannot be any obstruction in the line of sight between them and the transmitter. Thus, you have to remove them when visiting the kitchen or bathroom say, midway through watching a movie.
The ones here operate on FM Radio Frequencies, so the sound quality should be better; but they're limited to just 2 channels which could be a problem if you experience interference on both in your area. The description states that they're rechargeable but has not provide any details on docks or connections.
Cool thanks for that EarlyBird. I'll down to my HN store and check them out there!
Good on you. Don't forget to credit bargrin for the deal.
I understand they come with a wall plug for charging, which plugs directly into the headphone.
I'm not 100% sure but I think the battery is proprietary (if I recall correctly, I read conflicting reports saying you can and you can't replace with standard batteries).
I've used Philips RF headphones before, although it is a different version to this, and definitely an older one. It was equivalent in performance to the $20 RF headphones I got from Aldi a few months later, even up to sharing the same base transmitter. A neighbour with a similar unit or any receiver that can work on the same frequencies will be able to hear what you're listening/watching to.
This twin pack is good value in terms of the RRP of this item, but in comparison to the Aldi version, it isn't (would have liked to see it again). It is also "good enough" in sound quality, but can still get static, especially after moving about 2 or 3 rooms away.
deleted after realising this is a TWIN pack.
Wireless isn't as good as wired for sound quality, just convenience.
Yes, but in some cases/applications some might prefer convenience over sound quality.
These are the same price at officeworks (at least they have been for the last few months while i was looking).
I ended up getting the sony ones for $90 at costco. Don't really need two pairs, as we would only use them when we're listening to different things, and I'm guessing the sony ones would be slightly better (bigger driver, and nice charging base/cradle).
Still, this looks a good price if you need two… Officeworks sells one pair for $98, so $99 for two is probably a good deal.
Get sennheisers
yeah, the sennheisers using kleer audio (RS160, 170, 180) would be MUCH better than this. get one of them if you want wireless without the loss in sound quality through transmission.
but they also cost a whole lot more. at that price, compared to wired headphones/iems you could get for the same price, it starts to get harder to justify the convenience of wireless unless you really need it…but yeah, if i really needed wireless for myself, i would get RS160.
however, gf listens to netbook speakers, so sony rf headphones are good enough for her! :)
This looks to be the same model (albeit single version):

twin pack

Can anyone recommend anything comparable/better in that $99 range for a twin pack?
I'll be using them for listening to movies/TV programs.
And sitting about 4 metres from TV/hifi.
The main thing I need to hear is the voice component of surround sound movies.
don't think you'll find anything comparable in that price range with two headsets. as you can see, the price is pretty good (cheaper than overseas), and to get something better you'd have to pay a similar price or more just for one headset.
if you need two headsets and wants to keep to that budget, these would probably do the job for your needs.
I have bought before 8 month and it is very good in audio quality it can't use IR (Infra Red) but it use RF (FM) (RF=Radio Frequency with FM=Frequency Modulation). If you use it and walk in other room of your home then also get clear voice.
Thanks

I think they mean a second headset, not handset :-)
