  • I wish these were HomeKit

    • +7

Home assistant or homebridge are always an option to get things talking to HomeKit.

      • +1

Link to an easy guide? Last time I tried this it was multiple technical steps

    • +1

The Genio globes I used in the past worked with other Tuya based apps. Pretty sure it's a Tuya item, if that helps with integration

Edit: as confirmed by other comments. Hadn't read them

  • So you need an adapter to use this?

    • +2

To charge it? Any old USB charger would do.

  • -1

only 5 hours of running time?

  • +1

    Cheers got 2

    • +1

      Ditto

      • +1

        Same hopefully pairing together

    • so happy with them? usb micro or c?

  • +1

    Bought 1, thanks

  • +1

Anyone knows whether it can be on while charging?

    • +3

      Yes

      • -1

Then can you please tell us? :)

  • +3

Does anyone know if these are Tuya compatible?

    • +5

Yes (I have one and use Tuya)

      • Does that mean you can use home assistant etc to trigger it etc??

        • +1

Yes, can confirm (Got one yesterday).

        • +1

Yep, got mine set on a schedule through the Tuya app

  • +1

It says "Adapter sold separately". What adapter are we talking about?

    • +2

      Your phones charger.

  • +1

Hi, does anyone know whether the charging port micro-usb or usb-c interface?

    Thank you

    • -7

I would guess neither - likely a USB-A cable that plugs into a charger, with a 5v circular plug that goes into a socket on the light itself.

    • +12

      usb-c
      comes with a usb-a to usb-c cable

  • +1

Snagged the last one from Chadstone! Can't seem to add anymore to cart, thank you for post, love my Genio household

  • +1

In typical Ozb fashion I have bought one and now asking questions later.
Can this be used as a wake up light?

  • +1

    Thanks OP! bought 2.

  • Gee, can't use store credit online, would have buy one otherwise.

  • They cancelled my order 🫠… Oh well.

  • +2

I bought this a few months ago and it made the most annoying sound ever whenever it was on, so I had to return it.

    • +2

Mine has no sound at all

  • +1

Thanks op snapped up 2 at the local one ar Miranda, intend to use it as backlighting for plants in the balcony away from rain the sheltered part

  • +1

When I was at Camberwell, VIC Kmart earlier today (about 2pm) they had at least 6 on the shelf.

  • +1

Quality is okay. One of my units microphones isn't very sensitive and requires loud sounds to react using the music mode.
Some buttons get stuck. The light is impressive though.

    • +1

      I think it doesn't have a microphone. It uses the phone's;
"Sync your lamp to music on your phone or by placing your phone close to your speaker"

      • I think it uses both as theres two options in the app and one requires phone microphone permissions which I never tried. It definitely has a microphone or some sort of sensor as it reacts to me tapping the light

  • QC on these is garbage. Cheap Chinese junk in a semi fancy box. I like Wiz.

    • Agree. The US made BlissLights BlissRadia is a much better product. It used to be available on Amazon AU but not anymore.

      • +1

        For 10 bucks, though?

    • -2

Cheap Chinese junk? That’s possibly because you can only afford junk. Sb

    • +1

Wiz would not be $10 also I have the Wiz version and it is not USB but each one requires it's own bespoke chunky adapter clogging the mains but true it does not have the high pitch mosquito sound and it is not as feather light as this one,

  • +3

Just like the Philips Hue variant. But ~ $200less lol

    • +1

Agreed - I had a Philips Go - I think it had a glass front instead of plastic but from 2 metres away they look the same and this one uses generic charging cable instead of proprietary which is a bonus.

    • The Philips Hue one is only $100 more (on the non-sale price) but the comparison is not appropriate.

The Philips Hue is Zigbee, not WiFi which is arguably preferable. Plus the brightness and colour depth/richness is always better with Hue bulbs. I wish it wasn't the case, but you pay in-part for quality here. I went through a number of cheaper (and typically WiFi) smart bulbs before I bit the bullet and committed to Hue.

    Thanks OP
Got two from KURRALTA PARK, SA. Had a few left on the shelf (not discount tagged)

Order i placed yesterday for this , just got cancelled.

    • How many do you need just incase kmart have any more when i go collect my order

  • Kmart cancelled my C&C saying there's no stock. Walked in and there's a dozen just sitting there on the shelf. Lazy staff.

Negged by a lazy Kmart worker 🤣

    • I've had orders cancelled in the past, checked the stock, saw the website said still available, put it through again, and had it delivered. Just don't take no for an answer 😉

  • Order placed for delivery yesterday was cancelled and refunded :(

big coil whine on 1/2 of mine but it was easy to get into home assistant and worth it for $10

    • Was that while charging? I noticed a whine while charging via wall plug while the unit was turned on.
No whine when charging via USB port on my PC. Maybe higher wattage causes the whine?

      • i'll do a little testing today and let you know. in the meantime i ordered 3 more from online, even if i have to open them up and replace stuff, the price is right

wonder if i could flash wled onto the 8266

        • +2

I also had a high pitch sound when the lamp is switched on. Seems to be related to the supplied USB-C cable. I've tried different adapters and the sound only disappeared when using a different cable. This was the case with all 3 lamps I bought.

EDIT: I have been charging the lamps for a while now (~1h) with the provided cable (subtle red light and lamp switched off) and now there is no sound when switching the lamp on. Perhaps it only happens when the battery is low.

          • @gerenuk: follow up: spoke too soon, I had the lamps on for a few hours and the high pitch sound is back even when using a 3rd party USB-C cable. what's worse the LED is slightly flickering now.. Will turn off for a while and see if it comes good tomorrow and use different adapter/cable combos…

  • Just got last 4 at bankstown

Plus have a c&c and one for onepass delivery

  • ~5x left at Roselands, SA

  • I went to a couple of stores in Adelaide only to find out that there was no stock. Does anyone in Adelaide know of stores with stock on the shelves? If these were anything like the Hue equivalent, I would grab a load of them. What is the quality of them like? Good, bad, acceptable? Can you change the colour to something custom? From my quick search, there does not seem to be a lot of information on them. Any help would be appreciated.

    • +1

Build quality is average. They look fine from a distance but in-hand they feel kinda cheap. Buttons are a bit clunky but the light itself looks great and diffuses nicely. Can set to any RGB colour and also has cool to warm white.

A couple of these could fill a small room with light. Worth it for $10 but wouldn't bother at retail.

  • Ordered 4. The first paired within seconds. The other 3 appear in Tuya almost instantly, but fail to pair. Not sure if this is a fault, or I'm not holding my tongue right.

EDIT: got another 2 working via the "slow blink" method. the last lamp doesn't want to blink red quickly or slowly yet…

    • +1

Finally got the last one going. Did nothing different, it just paired for some reason.

      • +1

yeah i find some tuya stuff is detected instantly without any user input, and other stuff requires several tries and a lot of patience
