Amazon are running the $10 off $100 of Toys and Electronics with a Mastercard promo again. The previous post at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56912 has expired so hopefully this isn't considered a repost. This deal expires at 7:00pm Friday.

The Kindle 4 http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wi-Fi-Ink-Display-international… is US $110.98 including shipping after the coupon. Amazon very rarely discounts the Kindle range and this is a saving of around $30 over the Australian price from DSE or Big W I think it's a good deal.

Full details of the Amazon promo including an additional $10 of $50 coupon received later are below.

Amazon.com customers get a $10 discount off your order on MasterCard Savings Days when you use your MasterCard® card to purchase $100 or more on products sold by Amazon.com. Customers who complete their qualifying purchase on Savings Days will receive another $10 discount to use towards a future purchase when you use your MasterCard® card to purchase another $50 worth of products sold by Amazon.com

  • Not bad but I'm after the Kindle Touch, do they deliver it internationally?

    • not yet… but they can be easily be purchased via 3rd parties (for a fee)!

I was researching the kindle for my dad. Seems to be mixed reviews for the touch - but i'm sure there's probably an equal number of reviews who love it.

      • Thanks for the info. Apparently, K Touch is much better if you frequently look up words in the dictionary or wikipedia, or are reading a book that has a lot of cross-references. Under such circumstances it's a chore having to navigate to the extremities of the screen using the joysick.

        • That's a really good point.

There were 3 issues I remember from the reviews I read:
          - First: the use of screen real estate with touch menu's taking up valuable space. If it's seriously an issue though, it's nothing that couldn't be fixed with a firmware update down the line.
          - Second: was there was no "next page" button on the side, you have to swipe to move to the next page. I guess if you're used to having a button then you would miss it, if it's your first kindle you wouldn't know the difference
          - Third: apparently the touch won't flip to landscape. Again, I don't know the impact of this.

Anyway, touch seems to make more sense to me in these things…

    • I've ordered the touch, landed at the shipping company last night, and is now with DHL on its way to oz…

ends up about 15-20 bux more to go though a corrier company for cheap shipping, i paid +15 more to get it tracked and insured. (and should arrive in the next couple of days.) my first transaction with them… so far so good. they are pretty fast.

spewing i didnt get an additional 10 bux off though! specially as i bought a pad at the same time. the aussie dollar was 97 and its now 1.02 so 5 % of 250 15 dollars plus the ten for this code, paid 35 too much :( (ten each for pad and kindle, 15 for currency conversions :(( )

      • Don't beat yourself too much, currencies fluctuate and it's impossible to be always waiting for a deal.

Enjoy it, looks like a great device!

Which shipping company did you go with?

        • sorry, mentioned it everywhere else. shipito.

there processing is clean and they seem to be streamlined…

they charge 8.50 to process your package+ plus a few bux for bank fees etc, then you choose which shipping, i could have gone the shipito shipping for like 5 bux, however it takes 15-20 days and no tracking insurance…
ended up paying an extra 23 bux for dhl 1-3 days so would assume i'll have it no later than tuesday. Daughters birthday pressent after xmas… so have to hold on to it until then!

think all in all it ended up costing about 160-170 landed… not bad for a device thats not availible here i guess.

        • Nice.

        • landed this morning at 9:15am… am i one of the first in australia to get it? :D

  • What's the advantage over the kindle 3 wifi that was at bigW for $99?

    • aren't they refurbs?
this is smaller, as it does't have a keyboard.
but it also has less storage..this one is at DSE/BigW/etc for $139

      • I just grabbed a refurb after reading reviews on amazon, the 3G has a better screen easier to read in low light, better contrast and less ghosting, the 3G has sound and better compatibility with games, more modable, text entry on this model is a major pain. So apart from weight and size why would you buy it.

        • +1

I have the 3 and my cousin just got 4, I reckon 3 is better at everything except size and weight. The 4 is sooooo light it's awesome. Also personally I almost never use the keyboard on 3.

If I had to buy one, I'd probably go for the touch which combines their strengths into a better product. But I'm probably just a gadget freak :-)

        • To clarify, by 3G you mean 3rd generation? I've heard the last one was a lot better yeah.

To sum up what I've heard from reviews and stuff, this is a good kindle for PURELY reading books. If you want to go on the internet, browse Amazon, etcetera then the text entry is a pain, and you'd be better off getting an older one with a keyboard or importing a Kindle Touch somehow.

        • Sorry my bad. 3G = 3rd Generation

  • Another reason not to get a Touch - smudges all over the screen!

  • Does this deal work? On the main amazon page, it says *For MasterCard US cardholders only. Promotion is available only on certain days and applies only to purchase of products sold by Amazon.com. Additional restrictions may apply

Did the previous deal have these same conditions - people mentioned using the 28 degrees mastercard worked.

    • +1

The deal definitely works. I actually ordered a Kindle using a 28 Degrees Mastercard before posting the deal.
