  • weird it says

Save $50 on Fire TV Stick 4K when you add a select product to your purchase

they're $99, then clicking it they're $59 if you buy a qualifying product

I know, the fine print is not correct or maybe based on a full price of $109. Either way, I ordered and paid $62 combined with Blu Tack.

this thing lags a lot for me

    • +1

I can confirm. It is laggy and oftentimes unresponsive and apps suddenly close. Add the fact that it complained that it had no space to download an update so I had to uninstall apps.

I have an older 4k Max, the first one launched.

      • Are you guys using another stick-like product that is better? I had my eyes on the 4K Max but I wouldn't want to get it if it lags. My main use-case is being able to stream 4K content on Stremio without buffering

        • I believe that it was snappy when I first started to use it but now it’s not.

        • i got the original 4k max stick and use stremio, works fine, no lag
I even stream moonlight through it and its smooth

        • 4K Max has 16GB of storage now, I think it used to only have 8. When people talk about lag, I think they maybe just mean operating menus etc. 4K Max can play UHD BD Remux if your network is good enough

          • @jonathonsunshine: In my case:
            - some apps freeze and close
            - when pressing left or right in various lists there is a another freeze followed by the normal scrolling
            - sometimes pressing Home results in a visible pause/lag

          • @jonathonsunshine: I've just brought a 4k max not too long ago and yeah has 16gb. it's my first firestick and I've not noticed any lag it had a buncha updates at the start.

i also have a 4k google tv stick i use in my bedroom and my main issue with that is the remote control on Google home app bugs out a lot or doesn't show up . but when it works its great .

    • Mine flies along and has done for a couple years now

  • ATL ?

    • +3

No. It's been $49 heaps of times and as low as $34.

    • Nah. The 4k max was this price before xmas

Surprised these haven't been updated - EU's USB-C power mandate is in effect.

    • +1

EU's Common Charger Directive doesn't apply to non-rechargeable devices.

  • Replacement version might be announced soon at the 26th Feb Alexa event.

The Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2024) is better as it has 16GB storage and faster CPU. If you are not in a hurry, wait until it goes on special. I was $59 on black friday if I remember correctly.

Apple TV is still far faster though in launching apps, multitasking betwen apps and has a clean UI.

but you can't install smart tube aye or any youtube client w adblock n sponsorblock

      • Really?

        • +1

:P well yeah. wish there were better tv sticks w no ads on homepage like google and Amazon's but the downside of Apple TV is can't install third-party apps aye.

          • @AeymothSky: My bad. I thought you meant you couldn't install smarttube on the 16gb version. 👍

      • +1

Good point. That's why I have both a Firestick and an Apple TV. I use the Stick for the likes of Stremio and recently tried XBOX Cloud Gaming.

        • The cloud gaming isn't bad. Definitely not awesome but usable.

          • @MS Paint: I don't play games these days, but was pleasntly surprised too when I gave it a go.. I think my bluetooth controller latency was worse than the server latency (Sydney) to be honest.

          • +1

@MS Paint: yeah having tried xbox cloud gaming and i think even google stadia at one point.

It works pretty well if you got good internet! Really surprising to say the least.

actually i've tried geforce now as well a buncha times with their free 30 min tier from pentanet.gg (Which they've removed the free tier for now?)

They said they would bring it back early next year(aka 2025 now) And it's still not here…

So don't know what that is about.

  • I've seen a lot of people online saying the 4K is faster than the 4K Max for some reason.
