  • I was going to renew my ANZ travel card, as it would give me 5 days to book that free flight but may as well cancel it and apply for this because there's the bonus 100000 points 😁😁😁

Not sure how much Velocity points are really worth these days

    • +4

2 complimentary Virgin Australia lounge invitations - worth 0 at the moment

I've got 4 and probably all will be expired before by the time they open

  • I am thinking of cancelling my coles mastercard and getting an amex. Is this a good deal right now in terms of bonus points? Not fussed with benefits and all.

    • The 100k bonus points offer usually happens 2-3 times a year. I haven't ever seen any higher than 100k on this card but could be mistaken

      • Pre covid 100-120k has been offer a few times. Tempted to sign up again, just that the uncertainty of what Bain will do with Velocity is the only thing holding me back.
Have alot of velocity points already and happy if worst case can only end up using for domestic for a while

We other the $275 it's a better deal that previous ones and the domestic return flight does come in petty handy

      • Yeah - the decision is between this or this deal for the explorer.

        • I would say this still is better, because the free flight included is probably worth more than what the card is costing you.

    • Amex isn't accepted everywhere, have both

      • True - thanks

"Enjoy two complimentary entries per year to the American Express Lounge, located at Sydney International Airport or Melbourne International Airport" …. yeah, that benefit is going to be hard to use. They closed the lounges really early on in the first wave, on 21 March 2020, and they're still closed, and presumably will be for some time to come. Maybe they open in the next 12 months, and maybe they don't.

    • Maybe they'll be nice give you additional entries when they do open.

  • Anyone know how to check how long its been since you've cancelled your card? I had a platinum edge a year or two ago but think i can't get the points if its been too recent

    • Can give them a call.

    • Check your credit history on credit savvy. It'll show you the closed date of the card.

  • The complimentary return flights have a funny route.

If you in Sydney or Melbourne, you can't fly to Perth on these but if you in Perth, you can fly to Sydney or Melbourne

    • Probably because there are more people wanting to fly from the west to the east, so the planes are fuller thus they can cover the costs better. Just a thought.

      • Well they are return flights, so one flight in each direction, so the numbers flying in each direction must be exactly the same from this offer, so that doesn't really make sense.

Also if you live in Sydney you can't fly return to Darwin, but if you live in Darwin you can fly return to Sydney.

It's weird, and they've basically removed some of the most desirable routes, making the offer a fair bit less attractive.

Add to that borders closing with any covid outbreaks, making planning harder, and it's not so great.
