Wrong. You'll get the 12 month worldwide warranty instead of the 24 month local Australian warranty + australian consumer law protection.
Since when does Apple offer 24 month warranty?

They are sneaky, they changed policy to say they will pricematch any .com.au website and then came up with other excuses to not price match.
FWIW I bought a Nokia 8.1 over a year ago from Toby Deals and with one weeks warranty left the USB port stopped working. I contacted Toby Deals and asked about a warranty repair and they said "Yep no worries". They sent an international RMA label and I sent it off (to Hong Kong). It took 6 weeks to fix and return but all in all was pretty painless and didn't cost me a thing. So …. I wouldn't say they are hopeless as I have had far worse experiences with Australian warranty repairs. YMMV.
