If it is not for gaming (and with Intel integrated graphics, you cannot really do serious gaming anyway), you might be better off with USB-C to HDMI converter or cable - as they are easier to find / cheaper.

        • +1

If you want to fully benefit from it, you need USB-C to HDMI 2.0 converter / cable.
USB-C to DisplayPort is probably safer, but may cost more.

          • @netsurfer: thanks for the advice, really appreciate it!

          • @netsurfer: i just did a quick search, is there any material difference b/w a converter vs a cable?

            • @braoooo: so i just checked it out on ebay and i came across this adapter

              https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Type-C-USB-C-to-HDMI-DVI-VGA-USB…

              It says the following:
              * Type C to HDMI VGA Adapter Supports video resolution up to 4K 30HZ. when use HDMI alone, It support a large screen liquid crystal TV or display compatible with 4K(3840 * 2160P / 30Hz) max output.

Should i not get this, because it only supports up to 30Hz? So the monitor will essentially not be used to its full potential? is that how it works haha

              • @braoooo: For USB-C, it can be tricky / messy.

First, need to know your CPU (in order to work out the embedded GPU). In order to benefit from 1440p@140Hz, your GPU needs to support that. It's likely the embedded GPU can only do 1440p@120Hz max (but that's actually okay as most media is 30 or 60 so 120 is good in a way).

The 4K specs isn't very useful here. 4K 60Hz (no HDR) is essentially HDMI 2.0, which has enough bandwidth to drive 1440p@140Hz. From what you mentioned so far, I am guessing your laptop isn't the latest model and I'm going to guess HDR support probably isn't provided by Intel.

Last, but not least, is converter vs cable. What matters is the quality. Some cheap ones would interfere with some 2.4 GHz WiFi network. I don't know if 4K/30Hz will work with 1440p@120+Hz. However, I would go for a 4K 60Hz one to be on the safe side.

don't know whats the fuss and don't need a monitor. saw all the UPs and bought one…

    • Same. Bought one a few days ago, don't need another one, can't even fit another on the desk.
      Bought this anyway…

  • must… not….

  • +1

This is similar specs to the 27GL850 but $150 cheaper.

    What's the catch?

    • Probably a different panel (AUO probably - not confirmed) though the Dell specs seem better.

      • It's an LG Nano IPS panel, same as the one in 27GL850

        • So did LG purposely quoted a lower spec or Dell provided the wrong specs?

The panel dimension, refresh rate range, brightness and contrast ratio are all different.

    • More like $250 cheaper right now. Uses the same panel as the LG apparently.

    • That LG monitor runs about $800 right now with most stores out of stock so no dice on ever getting it for $750 unless this corona thing is done.

It uses the same panel same ergo just different look. Both are freesync. The catch is if you use a display port cable this can go up to 165hz.

It seems like nothing is adding up though. Its expensive in other countries. This monitor was added 3 days ago at the price of 1.2k then reduced to 629 and stacking up discount codes. I hope the orders dont get cancelled tomorrow.

It's a literally too good to be true deal.

      • I don't think they'll cancel my cc was charged immediately and I got an order confirmation email with an internet receipt number

        ETA is 06/08 for delivery

        • +1

Hope they won’t cancel. But it’s not too late for them to cancel your order tomorrow and refund you.

          • @Ebaygiftcards: True but mine says it's 'in production' so would be harsh to cancel now, I bought it first thing this morning so they've had all day to cancel

      • Wait but I have gl27850 and it doesn't go to 165hz?

  • Can anyone recommend a monitor to run portrait with this?

    • +3

      Another one of these?

  • Thanks OP I brought the deal you posted yesterday at $534. I was worried it will sell out or the discount code would expire. I have a dell 34inch and an Asus 27inch for my ps4. Since I brought this one I don't even know where to put it!!!

  • urgh… TEMPTING

  • Stage 4 confirmed in Melboune, will that impact the delivery?

    • +2

As long as deliveries are not done after 8pm

  • Does it support VESA mounting anyone?

    • +1

      yes it does

      • Thanks mate

  • The number of upvotes is through the roof. It’s overtaken the previous post already

  • Bought this first thing this morning and missed the 5% code, but got cash rewards so not too disappointed. Can't wait to see this monitor in action!

    • Cash rewards won't work. It will be rejected even tho if it tracked

      • -2

I got confirmation from cash rewards for cashback. Note I missed out on the extra 5% and bought before this deal was posted

        • +1

Confirmation that they will pay it out or just a confirmation email that it tracked? Generally when your using a code that isn't listed their CR page the cashback will be denied later on

          • -2

@DoesntEvenMatter: Confirmation they paid it out $14.58

            • +1

@gentlekoala5906: If you bought it this morning, you only got confirmation that it tracked. It is not confirmation that it was paid out. It will likely change to declined on cashrewards within a week or 2 as that is what happened with my purchased 1 month ago.

            • @gentlekoala5906: What Sheldon said. It's a tracking confirmation, if the code used to make the purchases isn't listed on the cash rewards dell page, you won't get the extra discount from tracking. It will be denied from new till the 2 months it can take to be paid

  • +8

I caved in. It was a long 6 hours struggle.

    • Me too mate. Now that I've committed I'm worried the order might not get filled.

  • +5

How are my fellow 27GL850 owners feeling about seeing this? Not gonna lie I'm feeling pretty gutted… Bought mine for $769 a few months back. I actually upgraded from a Dell S2417DG which I sold for like $400, so could of upgraded to this for $100. Feelsbadman.

    • +1

Don't feel bad until any of us actually get our monitors! Could very well be a pricing error

  • Man if I had a PC powerful enough I'd be all over this!

  • +1

Just contacted Dell Support, the chat representative said ETA 11th of August for delivery to SA. I asked them to confirm stock levels of the item as I know it has been popular and they said it is "in stock". I went as far as to ask if they think it will still be available for purchase tomorrow and they said yes. Hopefully this means orders won't be cancelled but I guess we will see?

    • +5

won't put much faith in them. They can only see what the computer says. There's a chance the computer is wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I ordered one, but kind of lowered my expectations now :(

      • +1

I have a feeling this going to get cancelled too. Until the they put my order on a truck, I'm not holding my breath.

        • Yep. Now seeing this deal is over +500 likes and website not running out of stocks yet, I'm highly skeptical! LOL

Hope they refund quick if that's the case ><

    • It seems like people who live in Sydney have gotten an ETA of 06/08/2020 and people who are in Queensland/SA have gotten 11/08/2020 maybe in Melb as well

      • I’m in Victoria (regional) and have the 6th.

  • Impressive Deal.
I've got a Acer Predator XB271HU that's performing very well, so I can't justify replacing it.

    • I've got the same monitor, tempted to get this and go dual monitor. just worried about the base combo together.

    • Lmao that one has the GSYNC module. Idk why you would want to get something thats gsync compatible if it doesnt improve your experience in anyway. I've actually had that monitor as well but ftc told me to wait when i returned the item waiting for an exchange instead of giving me one of the items they have instock. Shitty seller but dam did I love the ACTUAL gsync and not just gsync compatible. That monitor til this day still holds its name.

    • +1

This is a downgrade if you have an Nvidia card. Gsync module is always better than gsync compatible, and because it's brand new we don't know anything about the overdrive or anything for that matter.

I reckon once everyone's got theres there will be a bunch of people complaining about flickering when trying to use gsync

    • Aaah… I see.
"G-Sync Compatible" is a poor imitation of actual G-Sync.

I hadn't realised that, was wondering how this monitor could possibly be so cheap.

      Thanks All.

    • I'm in the same boat, and I bought this. I'm going to compare them and likely try and sell my Acer, as I gain nothing from the GSync module frankly, and this is a better panel generally.

Worst case, this one will easily sell for $500.

  • +1

Do i need a display port 1.4 cable to run at 165hz?

My laptop has a mini DP port only so will need to get a mini DP to DP cable

Btw- great deal OP. Glad i held off buying yesterday

    • Id say so. Dp mini to dp are common. MS Surface use them

  • I was just looking to upgrade my monitor to the lg 27gl850b , and then this deal came up. Thank you OP! Also I heard this uses the same nano ips panel as the lg one, but still deciding between the two. The lg has stellar reviews, but not sure if i should get this one instead. Anyone have any insight much appreciated !! :))

    • buy it before miss it :-)

    • I have the LG and it's great but it's an absolute no brainer to get this at this price.

  • I got the dell ultrasharp last week, now I have buyers remorse.

  • +1

    Annnnnnnnnnd I bought 3 of them…
About time for an upgrade anyway..

  • +1

Early birthday gift to myself ;)

  • +5

It took me 7 hours to cave in, not confident I'll be receiving mine ordering so late though.

    • +1

Haha took me 8! See what happens.

  • I wonder how many Melburnians are on this deal

  • Thanks OP, snapped this one up quick!

  • Why are there no reviews for this product? When can we expect reviews?

How would you compare it to ViewSonic VX2758-2KP-MHD for $470 that i have been looking at?

Is it really using the same IPS LG27GL850 panel? If it is, then why is this so much cheaper?

I originally planned to get a new monitor around Christmas time. Do you think we'll see another sale on this product by then or is this the best bet?

Sorry about all the questions and thanks in advance.

    • +1

      Released a few weeks ago

    • +1
      1. This just came out and isn't even available in some markets. Expect reviews to trickle out in the coming weeks/months

      2. Better than the viewsonic by the spec sheet and it's cheap because it's probably a pricing error. It's too good to be true and I think a lot of people will be disappointed come Monday.

    • +1

As people pointed out, this is a new product and it looks like a new panel. Based on the specs, it cannot be the same panel as LG27GL850. The specs simply don't match (unless Dell flatout lie about the specs).

As much as some people really want to have the cake and eat it, it might be better to have more realistic expectation. It seems more likely to be an AUO panel. It is possible LG released their 2020 panel to combat AUO stats wise, but I'd rather not assume that.

LG27GL850 - if you want to be a proven, already reviewed by many monitor, but don't mind being an older model (so it is listed as HDR10 instead of HDR400 - though monitors in this class are all fake HDR anyway) and technically slightly inferior stats (but with IPS, there can be a bit of "cheating" in quoted specs). You also don't mind paying more.

VX2758-2KP-MHD - It is the 1440p cheapest gaming monitor in this price range for a good reason. No USB hub, no included VESA stand (there is VESA mount), 1 HDMI port being HDMI 1.4 only. Corners are cut.

This one - worst case is a newer version of the panel used in Viewsonic, but with a VESA stand included and USB hub. It could be an LG panel (slightly updated). However, doesn't really matter which, being IPS, there is a bit of lottery regarding getting one without any dead pixel and the degree of blacklight bleeding can also vary.

      • Display ninja says it's using an LG Nano IPS panel, same one found in 27GL850

        https://www.displayninja.com/new-monitors/

Could be wrong but Dell has it listed as having 98% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut which matches this panel

        • +2

          Problem is this:
          https://www.dell.com/ng/business/p/dell-s2721dgf-monitor/pd?…

Which matches what OP has posted. And this:
          https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/da672043

If it is the same panel, how did it become 400 cd/m2 brightness? Also, the measured contrast ratio for the LG is a tad below 800:1 (which matches LG's specs). So this Dell monitor somehow is 1000:1?

Another issue is other monitors listed by Display Ninja quoting to use the same monitor has the same panel dimension as the LG, but the Dell seems to be a bit off (Dell's panel appears a bit smaller). That said, I am not convinced about Display Specs information either. I doubt the Dell is a real 10 bit monitor. It is most likely 8 bit + FRC to achieve 10 bit. It's too early to confidently state that it is an LG panel.

Also, LG panel doesn't mean much. All the Dell monitors I returned / rejected were all LG IPS panels. LG do dump panels with 1-2 dead pixels to Dell and Dell have the nerve to sell them as Ultrasharp monitors.

          • @netsurfer: All good points, either way hopefully it is a decent monitor in its own rights.

      • +1

Dell's website identifies the panel as "Fast IPS Nano Color". They also do this for the Alienware AW3420DW which most definitely uses an LG Nano IPS panel.

Also, while I understand the point about realistic expectations.. don't forget that the standard price for the S2721DGF is $570 USD, which is more than the LG 27GL850.

        • Where does it say "fast IPS nano" I can't see this statement on the monitors page!

        • The "Nano Color" is just a backlight enhancement for HDR. No matter how much marketing they want to juice it up, it is still fake HDR. This is not going to be the high end IPS that does real HDR.

If you believe it is the same panel as LG 27GL850, then Dell simply quoted max values, rather than the average value. Thing is, that means both brightness and contrast ratio are also max values (that's cheating to be honest), rather than average. So, the "HDR" is going to remain a gimmick.

I hope LG provide quality panels with no dead pixel and good even backlight (fingers crossed).

  • Got a $500 approval from my work to buy a monitor. This just falls outside the approval :( Anyone got any recommendations of something as good as this just under $500 (Don't do much gaming, mostly will use for work and Netflix).

    • +7

You pay for the $8 bucks?

      • Nope it's a system thing that will flag any purchases over $500. Don't want to have to answer questions later

        • just type $499

        • Just tell them that it is below $500 GST exclusive.

          • @Black Hole: which is true..

            1. Dell 27 Gaming Monitor - S2721DGF $461.75
              GST 10%: $46.18
              Total (AUD): $507.93
  • This is a silly questions but I'm looking for a new monitor for working from home and I haven't done any research on a new monitor for years. I've got an old Samsung 27" 1080p and I suffer with eye strains from it, would a new monitor like this help?

  • -4

All sold out, but I just got 3 sike!

    • +1

not sold out at all, my order was just processed. so fly away kiwi guy

  • +3

Nearing 20k+ clicks. Surely they dont have thousands of these things sitting in a warehouse. Hope Im wrong, but I get the sense our orders will get cancelled. Especially considering its $1200 on the NZ site.

    • Yeah lol, also lots of people are buying multiple not just one.
