Please put "3D printer" in topic, so 10,000 people are not saying "wtf is that? does not look like gun or a snake" .

Ok I standed corrected, guess there are ozbargainers that dont understand 3D printers

    Wtf is that?

  • +10

thought it was a sidewinder joystick

  • The genius is pretty good price too. Tempting.

    • Are they good?

is a smaller x1 with some minor improvement to the x1 (from memory the ribbon cable connector).

Just depends on what you want - i don't need the size of the x1 and the genius is more than sufficient plus i don't have to deal with the potential issue of a bigger bed.

Does not look like a snake.

  • What is generally accepted as the best models of 3D printers out there? Can Google but trust you guys more.

    • A prusa is highly rated to be the most "plug and play" without paying too "much".

Prusa i3 MK3S is probably the "best" consumer 3D printer in terms of features & quality. It's pricey though.

As for best of the more value end of the models, there's a lot of differing opinions there, plus what you value in features might be different to someone else. Some good tried and true examples are the Creality Ender 3 and Creality CR-10, but there are many more. Personally I have a Tevo Tornado which is a CR-10 clone, and although not perfect it's very good.

Even with high end consumer printers though they're never just plug and play; IMO 3D printing is more of a hobby about tweaking with the hardware & software, rather than just a tool you buy to make things for you.

      • I dont like how prusa still use 3d printed parts and the printer costs a whooping $1600aud for a kit. The mini seems ok but shipping kills it, also long wait times.

Depends what you want. SLA printers (uv resin) give more detail for ornamental stuff. FDM printers (filament type) have larger build volumes and are better for functional stuff and prototyping. The Creality ender 3 is probably the most popular entry level hobbyist 3d printer. I got mine for $270 before covid. Average price has gone way up though. It requires some putting together (recommend youtube vids over included instructions) and lots of calibration but can get great results as 'stock'. Has a huge community too. Sky is the limit on upgrades to the base machine. The prusa i3 is more premium hobbyist grade and generally requires less learning. For SLA the popular entry level machines are Elegoo Mars and Anycubic Photon. Great for highly detailed stuff like figurines and minis.

      • UV resin cost more to print and very limited material you can chose from, FDM has wider range of material types.

The Ender 3 is still available for under $300 delivered. I recently ordered one from the aussie warehouse for $318 delivered with the upgraded glass bed ($23).

        • Could you PM me (or post here) where you got it from? Having trouble finding it for anywhere near that price.
          Cheers!

          • +1

@misterbung: Banggood also, like this deal. But they are OOS at the aussie warehouse now. Should be restocking soon. If you are in a hurry, from china warehouse its $286 + $26 shipping (less any coupons and cashback) so definately near that price.

Check out the reviews from youtube, it comes up pretty good

Wow good reviews on the bang good site…. I just got the monoprice mini the other month and it's been awesome! Just the size of the bed has its limitations… Not sure if I'm ready for an upgrade yet

  • Waiting for the Creality CR-6 SE that was fully-funded on Kickstarter recently and has started shipping to backers already. It has auto-bed-levelling built-in, the bane of many 3D print jobs and seems reasonably priced for what you get.

Currently have the Ender 3 and it has been absolutely amazing as a foray into the world of 3D printing for the measly sum of $250 (came with a kilo's worth of filament too).. I so miss pre-COVID prices for technology *sad face*

  • Good price for this unit

Be ready to replace stock parts. Dont expwct it to not have any issues.

    • +2

That's just 3D printing in general today. Still a very nascent technology. If I were to equate this to a home printer for mass consumption, I'd say we've probably just reached the dot-matrix era. Kinda turn-key but somewhat plagued with limitations like speed, low quality and fiddliness.

The X1 was good in the first 3 iterations but they’ve made some small changes which have hurt reliability and the QC has been absolutely rubbish including a couple of issues where I’ve seen a real liklihood of chassis going live (230V). If you want out of the box reliable experience, look elsewhere.

Do not buy this from Banggood.
Bought it based on this special and the machine turned out faulty as explained in the review above.
More info in the youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n039ISjvcxw.

Seriously, this turned out to be a waste of time and money.

    • Is this a problem specific to Banggood? I doubt it as Banggood just onsell the printer. Really hard to tell from the video but it looked like the extruder wasn't heating up which would be a firmware, assembly or manufacturing issue. Is this how your printer failed? Were you able to return the machine?
