  • pls stop advertising this sort of shitty beef as WAGYU,,,

    • This beef is no way shitty and genetically about 50% wagyu. Just shitty price.

    • They have other cuts of meat and various MBS ratings… Anyway, "Wagyu" refers to any cattle that is bred in Japan or the Japanese-style. If you're after the premium Wagyu then go for Kobe beef

Need to ban this shop from Ozbargain.

      Why?

      • +11

        It's offensive to Vegans.

Yes, it is now time to start up cow lives matter. :P

To celebrate it, we can have Asado tonight

  • Why can't english speaking countries call beef cuts by the same name?

  • -1

Its only Wagyu if it comes from the Wagyu region of Japan, otherwise this is just sparkling poverty.

    • +1

Not quite friend, Wagyu actually means "Japanese Cattle". I think you're referring to a type of wagyu known as "Kobe Beef" which originates from the Kobe region in Japan

Australia farms both full-blood wagyu and cross-breeds

    • I thought Wagyu meant japanese cow which are known to have higher marbling in their meat. Import some japanese wagyu and then breed them here. They are still wagyu by genetics but raised here. Usually they just get some wagyu spoonk and mix it with some aussie cattle but you still end up with beef with decent marbling. Probably better for eating than the 100% wagyu unless you like eating slabs of butter.

  • 99% of Wagyu sold in Australia isn't traditional Japanese wagyu, that expectation doesn't exist in any significant or realistic capacity in any part of Australia. Not sure why everyone is piling in on a random butcher for Australian industry naming conventions. This thread probably would be even worse if they did sell authentic wagyu because everyone would be bitching about the price and comparing it to Coles or their local butcher.

Not really sold on the deal offered this time though. The original rump deal was an instant buy for me but a bit harder to convince myself to pull the trigger on this one.

  • If i was cooking $150 steak id be paranoid i was going to ruin it.

    • +1

Damn, youre eating 2kg of steak in one go?!

      • nah, as in id cook like 4 steaks at once on the bbq or cast iron for the family. I said i was cooking 2kg, not eating it

        • 2kg for $160, so 1 piece of 250g steak would be like $20, while normal coles/woolies Premium Angus cut would be around $10-$15 depending on the weight/discount. Score 5+ is nothing special, paranoia would probably start when you do score 8+ or Japanese A grade steaks.

LOL, most people don't even understand that there isn't really wagyu in Australia. Most wagyu in Australia are mixed blood wagyu. Mixed with Angus Cattles or similar. Also it's not about marbling, it's also about flavour. I've had ms9+ that tastes like a pool of oil.

  • can't go on website.. too many malware

  • Bought the Wagyu rump steak $100/2kg from them before. Tasted great and tbh $50/kg for Australian Wagyu is cheaper than Costco. The owner is a very nice guy. Let’s support small local businesses.

    • Wagyu rump / pichana is such a beautiful cut. Cook the whole rump cap on the BBQ and slice thin.

It's even delicious served cold the next day.

  • After many enquiries from the OzBargain community, the deal is updated now to cover a lot more customers.

    • What is the competition again : 3kg Wagyu MBS 7+ Scotch Steaks (10 Pieces) for $200 Delivered .

Since the deal there even more over supply than ever so prices should at least be stable or lower !
