I checked my account and found my next bill is also $35. I haven't received any email

    Next billing date

I checked my email I found I did receive the email

    • +3

It is targeted, I checked my account, it says
      Next billing date
      19 November 2024 ($70/year)

Same here, won't be renewing at that price.

        • +1

It's brilliant marketing - getting customers to pay for a scheme that increases loyalty and volumes - sheer genius.
They should pay customers to engage in the "service" - but hey, hat's off to them for the con job.

          • +2

            @jrvb42: I've saved over $1000 so I'm not complaining

            • +1

@0 0 0: The savings recieved are subjective. The same product you buy from woolworths because you have the extra offer would be discounted (Or half the price) elsewhere. End of the day this scheme is purely to gain your loyality (Because we are paying we will choose to go to Woolworths rather anywhere else).

      • +3

Same for me on 30/11. I won't renew unless I get a half price offer too.

    • +11

You get 10% off a shop online or instore once a month, which can easily pay for the cost and then leave you in profit. Plus the occasional freebie (YMMV, the freebies have been garbage for me).

      • +11

Don’t forget double points. It is a no brainer for $35.

        • +18

No brainer if Woolies is the only option..

But it's more of a brainer to me as to why I should be paying a subscription to a supermarket in the first place?

Just give me cheaper produce anyway…

So I shop elsewhere a lot more instead. As per other posts, meat in particular is around 50% less at the Indepents…and much better quality.

          • +14

@tunzafun001: Ah which independents? 50% cheaper is certainly not my experience…

            • +6

              @Binchicken22: Aussie butchers are pricy.

            • +11

@Binchicken22: Yeah I call bullshit. Any independent butcher I've been to has been more expensive than woolies. Better quality obviously but not cheaper

            • +1

@Binchicken22: I've posted independent deals quite a few times on the Colesworth posts. I'm talking about local IGA and Foodland.

This week they have pork roast $4.99/kg, Pork loin $7.99, beef roast $9.00/kg, Rump $12.99, Tomahawk Rib eyes $25/kg

Last week the whole scotch fillets were $17.99, pork same. Weetbix $2, Party size Kettle sour cream. Chips $4.25, 1 litre browns strawberry or Mango yoghurt, or vanilla custard $2.99. Brocolli $3.99/ kg, Cucumbers $1.

Just prices I haven't seen at Colesworth in years.

              • +3

                @tunzafun001:

This week they have pork roast $4.99/kg, Pork loin $7.99, beef roast $9.00/kg, Rump $12.99, Tomahawk Rib eyes $25/kg

You obviously get some great deals in your area. My local IGA is advertising Rump Steak as being on sale from today for $22 per kg which is the same price Woolworths had it on sale for last week.

                • @lovesabargain77: Pretty much the norm at all the local Drakes, Romeo's and Foodlands around here. IGA is hot and cold.

            • +3

@Binchicken22: 100%. Our IGA has become a 'premium' grocer with prices that would make a Woolies exec salivate. The local butchers are no different.

          • @tunzafun001: With that stance, why pay a subscription to anywhere? A supermarket is a business, not a charity.

            • +1

@eccaz: They sell a commodity essential to existence. Prices should be as low as possible, but profits rule. So instead of lining their pockets, he shops elsewhere. Makes perfect sense to me.

              • -1

@TheJoker: Prices should be as low as possible?

            • +4

@eccaz: I basically agree. I don't pay for any subscriptions. Stupid idea.

Consumers could very easily make them go away if people had self worth and not buying into the marketing games (ie. just give us the best you can without making us pay extra for what should be offered by default anyway).

Case in point - Shopback now offering a subscription for better tracking support… How about just doing your best without being expected to be paid more for it!

Don't get me started on the way cars are going…ie heated seats are in all cars, but you can only use them if you have a subscription BS.

The good side is I never gave the Indepents a good look in, and these shenanigans have led me straight to a better alternative.

              • @tunzafun001: Part of the problem is that consumers have become even less rational than before. When the price of something rises people used to switch to a cheaper substitute, but these days consumers just stick their head in the sand and pay the higher price. Businesses have realized this and are taking advantage.

Heated seats in cars are a waste of energy full stop, the world would be better off without them.

Subscriptions are worthwhile if the benefits exceed the costs.

                • @eccaz: Agreed. Always analyze the benefit vs the cost. Get my $35 back within ~3months. At full price its bit more of a decision.
Not going to discuss other subs here.

                  • @faricity: So let me get this straight. You give the supermarkets money, and then have to earn it back with your loyalty (albeit in only 3 months)?

And you earn it back by spending money in their stores instead of a competitor, right?
And they are still making a profit (if not price gouging) on the increased volume.

From the supermarkets point of view, they see this:
Its awesome. We can get our marks, er, customers, to pay us up front so they spend money consistently in our stores. We get money up front and increased volumes and profits ongoing, all the while making excess profits because government and regulators are in our pockets.

                    • +1

@jrvb42: It’s all about the bottom line. If you’ll have more money at the end of the day through a subscription, then that’s the rational play, no matter how unpalatable it sounds.

Wait till you find out how gift cards work.

              • -2

@tunzafun001: And in the olden days you had to pay $6 to rent a new release DVD from VideoEzy or Blockbuster. Probably about $12 in today's currency.

Now we can get all you can stream for about $6 or $3 in olden days money.

Stick with your old ways boomer

                • @0 0 0: You almost had me on board with a decent argument until that last sentence.

                  Unnecessary.

      • +9

We do an online shop first and use the code, then the next week instore and it asks again if we want to use it. Double benefits.

        • -1

Orly? I need to try this

        • Yeah I saw that twice as well! Bonus!

        • It didn't work for me this time did you try recently?

        • +1

I think they've closed this loophole.

We didn't get the in-store prompt this month after using the code online.

          • -1

@j4ck: Yeah nothing to see here, move on and don’t bother trying it anyone.

          • +1

@j4ck: I used the in-store discount just yesterday after using it online earlier, so it's still works

            • @dealsgrabber: Nice! This hasn't worked for me for majority of this year.

            • @dealsgrabber: Alright, that's good to hear. I'll try again next month and see how it goes.

    • +7

It gives 10% off at BigW too. For what it is worth….

  • +1

FFS, I just cancelled my membership because I assumed they would be doing a special price for black friday.

    • +4

if they have a better price for Black Friday I will buy another one. 2x10% off each month

      • Don't you mean 4x 10% off a month 😜.

Using the order online first then the in store trick.

    • It worked for me, give it a go

      • +3

Unfortunately mine expired a few days ago, just tried to resub and it wants $70. Oh well, hopefully they will have a deal for new/returning subs. Certainly worth the money.

        • +3

          Same here.

Always "nice" to see how they "value" their customers

    • Haha I just wrote the same comment below. I got the deal full price with one extra month last year. If I go in the app and try to re-subscribe it wants me to pay $70

    • +2

There's no guarantee you would've received the offer anyway as mine is due to renew in about 10 days and is still showing the $70 price.

I'm going to do a shop next week and then cancel and wait and see if they do a half price comeback offer

    • +1

      same :(

      • @danny1213 black Friday sales start in November. Should be able to get it cheap soon

  • +6

it's worth $35 a year for me. It saved me about $5 a month plus a free item. But for the original price, it is too much for me

    • +6

Is your biggest shop in each month $50? What does that even buy you nowadays?
You need to plan it right and stock up for whole the month especially for the items on sale. Shit is too expensive now we (2 people) can easily spend $250 on a single shop without even trying.

      • +1

For people for do a single shop weekly.
and for people who buy all their stuff at the supermarket.

Meat & veg are usually much more then 10% cheaper & better quality elsewhere.

        • +10

Well, just make one shop a month bigger when you intend to use the 10%. Stock up on non perishable items.

      • I think the half price is better. So I won't buy things not on special and Coles always has spend $50 for 4 weeks and get $50 points which is a better value. Amazon normally price match WWS and Coles plus 10% off for SS plus I don't have to bring them back myself.
So I normally buy dairy and some fruit from WWS. I don't want to buy a lot and then expire.

    • Wow my weekly shops for a family of 5 + dog is $160 MINIMUM

and I normally don't use the code till over $200 shop (4 chances a month)

So easily $20 per month off. I think you need to use the code a bit smarter???

  • +5

Heck yeah I had mine cancelled already (ends December 2024) and it let me reactivate for $35. Thank you!

    • I've done the same!!

    • I also tried this, but when I tried to reactivate it didn’t tell me how much it was?

  • For those that got this offer, did you also get this one earlier in the month?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/869175

Trying to work out if you get one or the other, or if you don't accept the 7000 points they will offer the $35 off?

    • +1

      Didn't receive either offer.
For reference I signed up for Everyday Extra in July 2022 and have had it continuously since then.

  • +1

Mine is rolling over for the second year at half price automatically.

    • Mine too

      • Nice. I probably wouldnt renew otherwise.

  • +1

I did not receive an email. But checking my subscription details on my account I got a notice saying that I will receive my second year subscription at 1/2 price. ($35 per year)

  • Is it worth starting a free trial to see if this is offered?

    • Hard to say. Some other subscription offers are smarter and give you free months or discounts if you cancel.
There are 3 months free trial for Everyday Rewards being offered by commonwealth bank in their app, but dunno if you can find other longer trials.

  • Just checked my sub page and says next renewal is $35 anyway…

My account rolls over in December and currently still listed as renewing at $70.

    • +4

Same here. I've canceled mine. Lets see if they give same offer to renew closer to the date

    • +3

Same same. Cancelled and waiting to see if they offer a better piece to renew.

      • Let us know how you go. Mine expires next month and is at $70 for renewal.

      • Yep - just cancelled mine (renewing in March).

To be fair it saves me enough to renew at $70 so I will BUT I'd like to see them offer me $35 before March also.

I shop there every week why do I feel it's the most loyal customers always getting crapped on not being eligible for deals???

  • -5

Woolworths? I have had it for years but never paid for it . I do pay for deliveries unlimited tho . The card is linked to my Woolworths online account.
Have never used the 10% off so thanks .

    • +1

‘Have never used the 10% off so thanks’
Because you never had it. This is ‘everyday extra’ which is a paid subscription rather than the free one that is mainly just for collecting points and come with no perks.

  • wow… $35 for next year automatically applied.

  • Spewing! I just cancelled mine 2 or 3 days ago. Hoping for this deal again during the Black Friday sales

    • try going to renew it, I got offered 35 for renewal

  • +1

I always shop online first, then shop in store the following week to use the discount twice a month. However, it stopped working last weekend. I didn't get 10% discount in store after used the discount online in the previous week. Anyone else found the same?

    • Sometimes the 10% discount in store, after having it online first, does not show up in store.
I am not sure why it happens.
Most of the times it does work in store after online.
      It worked for me today.

      • Thanks for the info. This is the first time happened to me. I will try again next month.

        • I've been doing this too, but last Thursday, the self serve register never offered me the in-store 10%.
Hoping it was a glitch and not an update/fix. It's always worked perfectly in the past. See what happens next month I guess!

          • @mrbargainhunter: Same here. I've been successfully using this loophole almost every month this year. Earlier this month I did a 10% discount online shop, then yesterday did a big in-store shop with the intention of using the discount. But at the checkout the discount was not offered.

It seems like they may have closed the loophole, but some people are reportedly still getting it. I guess we just don't take it for granted now.

    • Same with me. First time the 10% discount failed in store after using the 10% discount online.

    • Same happened to me yesterday. I'm not hopeful that it was a one-off error, having read others on this thread.

  • $70 for me. Bummer

    • Same here :(

  • Got it!

  • Received from the app banner.

  • +1

Thanks for this! I didn't get an email but when I logged into the account it said I could reactivate a 2nd year for half price.

At $35 a year it's easily good value.

    At $70 not so much.

  • +1

No banner. Just cancelled my auto renewal.

  • I got the email too! I'm due for renewal on December 20 so a bit shy of 2 months left, was surprised I got the email this early! Opened the app too and got a banner saying I got half price on my next year.

  • They must be making an absolute fortune on the data harvested from members.

    • +1

Yeah.. someone must be paying them to know whether I prefer red or green apples.

  • No discount for me, $70… cancelled. I'll pay $35.. $70 is borderline not worth it.
