$10 Monthly Credit on All Data Plans For 12 Months = 5GB for $5 Per Month (BYO) with No Extra Data Charges @ Telstra

3261

Telstra's Extra Small data plan is normally $15/month, but connections during '7 Day Frenzy' get $10/month off for the first 12 months.

No lock-in contract, so you can cancel any time and DONT FORGET $45 CASHREWARDS which will equate to $15 for 12 MONTHS , this means $1.25 per month for 5GB data- THIS IS CRAZY!

MOD: Received email from affiliate channel representing Telstra stating that Telstra are currently having tracking issue, and sales through cashback sites such as Cashrewards might not track properly.

Buy it, use it, bank it, boast it, harder better faster stronger!

No excess data charges. When you exceed your allowance, you can continue to access data, but your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps.

This is a data SIM, so you can use it in devices like tablet, mobile dongles etc. You might be able to use it in a phone, but you can't make calls, it's not made for normal SMS use (charged at PAYG rates).

New customers only. If you want a higher plan instead, $10 discount currently applies those also.

Critical information summary (but does not list the $10/month discount)

Mod: Thanks to Giles for the description, copy pasted from them (who posted the duplicate deal).

This is part of Click Frenzy deals for 2020

Just a PSA regarding delivery times. I ordered this sim w/ the discount that was happening back in april and took 13 business days (roughly 3 weeks) after the order was completed online (3 days after application) so be prepared to wait a little longer due to the covid situation.

My local AusPost also hasnt been delivering any parcels and just dropping off cards in the mailbox so you might need to sign for this yourself when you pick it up at your LPO.

    • -1

      Unrelated!

      • +1

Be that as it may, just giving people a heads up on extended delivery wait times when ordering (anything) from telstra online.

    • +2

It’s also possibly because Toll, Telstra’s delivery partner, has been smashed by a cyber attack

      • +1

That's most likely the case too, the Toll staff that I've dealt with lately have been using pen & paper for all their deliveries.

    • so this needs signature on delivery ?

      • +2

Yes. The SIM was already activated when I received it, just had to pop it into my hotspot. Most likely the reason why signature is required (so no random can get it and start using it).

        • If Telstra pre activates the sim before you receive it, from when does the billing month start?

Sounds like from order process date, hence you would lose approx 2 weeks by the time you got it, correct?

          • +2

@ozhunter68: That’s a good question. That’s what i was worried about when i realised it was preactivated, but when i put it into my hostpot, the display said 29 days left, which also reflects what my billing period shows on my telstra account page.

I can only guess as to what their process is for activating the sim, perhaps when they get notified by auspost tracking that the item has been received by the LPO?

            • @choosk: That's good then, so we don't lose one to two weeks of service like some other sims.

  • Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm confused, it says "Mobile data Get $10/mth credit For the first 12 months when you take up and stay connected to a new data plan. Credit not available if you already receive a credit on your bill. Plan price may change." - I currently have an existing post-paid mobile plan with Telstra with a monthly mobile credit of $10, would I still be able to take advantage of this deal's $10 credit? Would appreciate if anyone can clarify please, thank you.

    • It seems you will need to add a new service/plan for this current $10 discount to apply, unlikely that your current $10 discount on your existing plan will carry over.

      • Thank you for your reply. That was what I thought, given that they're two separate types of plans but I wasn't sure and wanted to see what others thought. I'll hop on to live chat (Codi wasn't very helpful earlier) in the morning to try and clarify. Thanks!

  • Cashrewards takes me to the wrong link, I had to change the URL manually. What are the chances i still get my cashback?

    • Same, as long as you use a desktop and cashback was activated, i think it should be fine.
I took a screenshot too just in case 😅

    • I reckon it should work - did you get the cashrewards tracking email?

Personally, this is what I did after clicking through from cashrewards:

On the Telstra site, go to Personal (top left corner) / Internet / Mobile Broadband / See SIM only data plans. Extra small option available here.
After clicking through all that on the Telstra site, I received my Cashrewards tracking email about 15 minutes after completing the purchase with Telstra.

  • Cheers, bought one for my car.

  • +1

Cheers OP. What a fantastic post!

I have ordered eSim. Should the QR code come via email or I need to wait for a snail mail?

    • +1

      Snail mail

  • Is it me only? I cannot find nor see the Extra Small plan. There are only 4 options SMALL $50 MEDIUM $60 LARGE $80 EXTRA LARGE $100

    • Did you click the "new to Telstra" link?

      • The link directly from Cashrewards aint working. Would the cashrewards tracking works if I click on OP's link directly while logged in on cashrewards on another tap?

        • Not sure this is eligible, it's not technically a sim only plan, and definitely not a phone plan.

          • @Lukian: Done. Ordered. Logged in Cashrewards on one tap, clicked with OP's link directly and completed the order. Will see if the cashrewards shows up later.

        • I used Cashrewards link, found this data only deal, ordered. However, 24 hours later my Cashrewards cashback still hasn't been confirmed.

          • @bob19: Mine as well. Nothing came up in the account. I read the site saying you can reclaim it later but not sure exactly how.

        • Got tracked just then, will see if I get the $45.

I went to cash reward website, then to Telstra site vis Shop Now button. On Telstra website Select Personal on top - Internet on left - Mobile broadband on the middle right. Click see data plans. Then follow website

          • @avoidfullprice: Thats what i did afterwards, but so far nothing shows up, so will see. Appreciate if anyone would update us when their cashrewards shows up.

            • @ISO9002: Hey, i did the same as you did. But no cashback email confirmation for me aswell, did you received yours?

              • @GetEmAll: I havent received any cashback email confirmation, but i did receive an email with this…

"We noticed you clicked on Telstra Mobile. If you’ve made a purchase, we will notify you of your Cashback within 7 days. Your Cashback will also appear in your Cashrewards account."

Not sure if this means it got thru.

  • Do you think telstra would know to not give the discount after 12 months or it'll forget

    • +1

There will be better deals in a year…

… there'll be better deals in a few weeks time

  • Just signed up with Cashrewards for the first time before signing up with Telstra. Had been too lazy to sign up with Cashrewards but can't miss this $45 offer.

Only need this additional boost of data until the end of the year so I will literally get paid $15 for using this 1.5Mps unlimited data plan for free for 6 months. Life's good.

    • +1

Did you sign up to Cashrewards via a refer a friend link which gives you $10 as well?

      • +1

I would have been happy had you not told me this. Now I think I got a chitty deal! lol.

        • +1

Don't worry, now you're signed up and ready for all the new deals to "save" even more!

Also, the 5% off Woolworths gift vouchers should save you a bit (assuming you weren't buying elsewhere, and that you shop at Woolworths)

          • @danyool: How does that work? Buy Woolworths gift vouchers through CR to earn 5%? You can still earn Woolworths reward points by shopping with these gift vouchers?

            • @DarkOz: For the Woolworths ones you go through Cash rewards site then it takes you to Woolworths site and you buy at 5% instant discount. Don't have to wait for cash back.

Eg $100 gift card and pay $95

Yes, can earn WW rewards points.
You can use in store or online.

Can also use it at Woolworths Caltex petrol stations (but not all and it's a bit confusing which accepts it - but 7-11 fuel locks will usually be cheaper)

Also, I'd suggest getting Woolworths Money app then when your gift card arrives you can save the details in the app to keep track of your balances.

  • +1

Got real excited about the deal, and then realised that it's data only. :-(

$1.25 per month for a 5Gb plan with national calls and texts would have been so awesome. :'-(

    • +3

Get a $5 Dodo unlimited call and text sim and use it on a dual sim smart phone. $10 all you can eat call, text and data. This is crazy!

      • Is that the cheapest call only sim available right now?

        • I believe so. I can't see it getting lower than $5 for unlimited call and text. Great for people that don't need data on the go.

          • +1

@DarkOz: I reckon the woolworths mobile $10 offer is better. Well it definitely is if you spend more than $50 per shop at woolworths. With it you'll get 10% off one shop a month and you get 1gb data which will roll over every month providing a back up if you need to call on it at any time.

  • Does Cashrewards generally take a while to track?
Purchased the deal and used the chrome toolbar to ensure it is "tracked".

    • +1

      Got email within 12 minutes.

      • Thanks for the heads up. Didn't work for me despite it being in my click history. I might need to manually notify cashrewards.

  • Can someone explain how the data free sport works please? I want to take advantage of the live NRL games. Does it only work on a phone or can I use a USB modem as well?

    • +1

I sometimes use it on an ipad, I think you may need a mobile/tablet device to set up the nrl account and can then log in elsewhere.

There are ways to get it on the TV screen but it looks like FTA SD sport. You would be better off with the Kayo beteasy 3 month offers if that was what you were after.

  • Sorry if this is a totally ignorant quesetion, but are these plans available as eSIMs?

    • +1

      Yes

      • +2

During the process you will be asked to choose either a physical or esim

  • Thanks OP. Ordered to put in my router. One of my colleagues NBN went down last week as he was presenting. Someone forgot to call dial before you dig. It still down now.

    • if you have a Telstra router with sim slot, could you just use the mobile data? I'm asking as I don't have internet set up at my house yet (and probably won't for some time) but I have an old telstra router.

      • yes you can

        • cool, thanks for the confirmation.

  • Link to click not working . Went through cashrewards

    • Personal -> Internet -> Mobile Broadband -> See SIM only data plans

      • Thanks will try

  • +1

Thanks op, I ordered one esim for my iPhone. At $5 it’s just too good, will pop the dodo at $5 and that way I’ll be having all unlimited for $10 a month.

    • +2

Just be aware that Dodo doesn't do MMS (as you need data).

      • +2

I don’t really use mms. Me and family have iPhones so we use iMessages. For the others usually messenger or WhatsApp is used

    • +1

With all the savings on mobile plan, you will be able to upgrade to next iphone sooner :)

      • +1

Ehheh, possibly. My iPhone XR will be 2 in November. Who know I might upgrade to iPhone 11 and pass the xr onto my husband (he has and iPhone 7 Plus, but he broke the screen 6 months from new with his butter hands)

        • +1

Oops. Do have a look at iPhone 12 before you decide to go with 11 :)

  • +1

For those looking for call and sms, Telstra is also offering a 10aud off as well for mobile plans if you couldn't be bothered using a dual sim phone: https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/sim-only-plans#new

Not that cheap, but still 10aud off

  • been 40 min & i havent received the tracking email, does that mean it was missed?

    • same, I have not received anything yet. but could be they are doing credit check on me?

    • 24 hours later and my Cashrwards hasn't been tracked.

  • How long do you get to activate the plan? My current Prepaid doesn't end until July so if it could wait 30 days or so that'd be awesome…

  • I'm an international student with no Australian driver's license. Any way I can sign up online? I can't see any other way to do the credit assessment. I already have a service with Telstra.

    • You might need to chat to Telstra to ask. Problem is if you do on the phone no cashrewards (even though I don’t know if they would honour it as so cheap already).

      • I talked to one of their reps. They said I'll need to book an appointment and go into the store to do this. Apparently international passports don't carry any weight.

        • i put in my order with international passport number on their website and the account activation mail came in later in the evening. so apparently it worked :)

          • @spoddar01: Wait, so you selected australian passport and put in your international passport number? It's awesome if that worked but also stupid.

    • Passport?

      • Online there is no option for International passport (for postpaid)

  • on a sort of related question. Since having an active Telstra service gives you access to Telstra Air, is there a way to bridge the Telstra Air network? Or something equivalent? So that I don't have to sign in to every device everytime? Telstra App on iphone works pretty well, but my laptop and android tablet always make me sign in again

    • In the past I've used a small receiver like the tp link mr3020.

In just means that you need to do the sign on one every 12 hours via the link https://telstra.com.au/airconnect

and then once signed on to a single device all devices are connected through the modem instead of directly to the Telstra air hotspot.

      • So similar to the GL.inet N300 Mini Wireless Router. Thanks for that info, cheers.

    • And free live AFL footy through Telstra AFL app 👍

  • Perfect deal! Got cashrewards tracked within 1 hour as well, this new sim will work great with the Ipad Air deal from Optus :)

    • I’ve got the same deal! Just canceled the Optus plan (was thinking of keeping the sim at $15 but this is cheaper so better to pay all upfront)

  • Can i porting my Optus prepaid phone number into this and port out 12 months later to use as a phone sim again?

    • +1

No idea, also when I was signing up no option to port. I’m assuming being a “data” sim there is no need to port. So I would say probably not. Personally I would not risk it, as you could loose your number .
      Chat to Telstra to ask

    • +1

I think you can, I did once via Optus, but better to confirm with Telstra

  • The Shopnow on the Telstra page doesn't work when linked from Cashrewards just now? Also, does anyone have suggestions for a cheap data and sim where the sim can be delivered within 48 hrs? I run out of cheap data and calls by then…

  • Just went through cashrewards and shopback and through there the link to data only is not working

But when not on shop back or cashrewards I'm able to do it no probs

@cashrewards can someone weigh in and help please

    • Use the Shop Now button on Cashrewards and go to Personal > Internet > Mobile broadband > See SIM only data plans.

  • -2

How do you get the cashback offer?

    • Have you joined Cashrewards yet?

  • Pfft, no tracking after 12 hours. Lucky I took screenshots :)

  • Cashback is not even tracking my order, have to wait seven days to manually submit the claim.

    • Same, I've never had to make a claim before but I guess this will be my first!

  • +2

Thanks OP. Cashback confirmed within 10 minutes.

  • Would 1.5Mbps be doable for a pair of 1080p security cameras?
