[QLD] Solar Boost Plan 20c FIT @ Origin Energy

Mod 17/3/22 - See Forum Post to continue discussion.

OP UPDATE 6 - 19/11/2021 - Just got off the phone with Origin Retention's Team. It looks like the number in my post randomly goes to either sales or retention's team. If you call the 1800# just ask the rep if they are in the retention's team before wasting your time for an hour thinking that you are speaking with them and in fact, you're just talking to a normal sales rep, who can't offer anything other than what is on their website. smh… I called the 1800# again straight away and this time it went to their retention's team!

The rep was REALLY helpful. She went on to explain that Origin were losing 100s of customers a day due to their FIT rate drop and expect the feedback of this customer loss will send a wake up call to the 'powers that be' and come out with a better FIT rate. However long that takes is the big question!

Anyway, the best they can offer is 12c FIT which isn't as good for me personally compared to the AGL 12c FIT rates. I'll try again in early December and see what they are offering. Keep sharing in the comments section if you come across a potentially better deal! TIA

OP UPDATE 5 - 14/09/2021 - It looks like this deal is fast becoming unobtainable, unfortunately. I've called a few times over the past week and the best I am getting is 12c FIT. They are all saying the 20c FIT is no longer available and they won't even do 15c now… I'll keep researching and will update here if anything comes up that is worth signing up.

OP UPDATE 4 - 24/08/2021 - I called Origin yesterday to help another person get on this deal. I asked several questions to the rep (who was a part of the retention's team) about the offer and why some people get it and others do not. Her response was that the retention's team is the only one that offer better deals over their customer care team or sales team. The offers that they can do fluctuates from week to week. I asked further about this 'fluctuation' which she replied some weeks they can offer 15c whereas other weeks it can be up to 20c. It varies week to week based on what other companies are offering at the time. Yesterday the most she could do was 18c FIT however, she said call back in a couple of weeks time and it could be 20c again (or it could be 15c, which you wouldn't go ahead with). So that's the latest info I've got about this deal.

OP UPDATE 3 - 10/12/2020 - The deal/offer is still going strong! Don't let the reps tell you you can't get the offer. Merry Christmas everyone!

OP UPDATE 2 - 18/10/2020 - Some reps are now stating that the deal is no longer available however, I can confirm that I still managed to help a friend get this deal as of 16/10/2020. You just need to get the right rep and they will sign you up to the deal. Currently their website is saying 9c FIT which is terrible! Keep trying if at first you don't succeed.

OP UPDATE 11/7/2020 - This deal is still available for those that are in the market. I helped sign someone up to it yesterday no problem at all

Ok this deal requires some explaining so I'll do my best to give you all the details and steps to follow. Please note that this is specific to QLD, possibly even SE QLD and probably only beneficial for larger Solar Systems installed in your residential home or those who can generate high feed back to the grid per day.

Background:
I had a 15kw system installed just going on 12 months ago and shared my experience - details here. At the time it was very good value for money and I am so glad I went the larger system. I am currently predicted to have it fully paid off in under 2yrs based on credit generated through high FIT rates from energy retailers. After 1yr I haven't had a single electricity bill (was approximately $450/qrt) and have generated about $800-$1200 per qrt = $4000

When I first had it installed Origin and AGL wouldn't offer me anything competitive due to my solar system being over 10kw. Energy Australia (EA) at the time were offering 16.1c FIT so went with them. Earlier this year EA dropped their FIT rate to 11.5c and was no longer competitive. AGL then came to the party and offered me their 17c FIT rate so transferred over to them mid FEB.

This current qrt I am forecast to have a credit of just over $900. As I always do, I regularly check to see what's available and my brother who has a similar system to mine was looking to come over to AGL as well. He was with Origin at the time and upon making the move to come over to AGL, Orgin called him and offered him 20c FIT with no cap (as per their current plan of 15c FIT capped at 8kw per day then reverting back to 7c FIT) to stay.

Which brings me to this deal:
I called Origin to get the details as I was concerned they may have added in the fine print the 20c FIT is capped at 8kw but was pleasantly surprised to see it was unlimited with no cap. This deal can't be given over the phone with a typical Origin Energy Sales representative (as I found out) and had to call this number - 1800 557 700 and speak with a member from that team who can offer special rates outside of the standard.

As per the screen shot I have as the link, according to my spreadsheet (which works out exact costs by imputing exact usage and feed back to the grid figures) switching over to this Origin deal will increase my credit by approximately $800 per year. I have several other retailers costs on my spreadsheet that spits out the credit I would make and Origin beats them all.

Recap:
This would only be beneficial if you have a large solar system and can feed back to the grid a good amount (30kw+ per day on avg) and only buying back from your retailer approximately 6-12kw per day.
FIT offer: 20c/kwh
Usuage costs: 24.915
Daily Supply charge: 116.061
Daily Solar meter reading charge: 6.974 (Origin say it's $6/qrt)

Side note - A good price for a similar system to the one I have with 3 phase power (including Smart meter, slightly larger panels 330-350w and Fronius Inverter) with quality materials and workmanship is about the $9k mark now. For anyone with single phase power you can still get an 8.2kw inverter with 10kw worth of panels (have to have a Smart meter installed so it caps your feed back to the grid at 5kw/hr as per Energex regulations) with same quality as above for about $6.7k

Sorry for the long post but if you have any questions or don't understand my method/reasoning for the deal feel free to ask questions. Happy to help where ever I can. I must stress and reiterate that I am NOT affiliated with any Energy/Solar company. I just love doing my homework and research and love sharing it with others who can benefit.

Enjoy!

  • Man this is tough. I think they must have put a note on my account. Called everyday for 2 weeks. They won’t budge. 4216 QLD.

I do get transferred to a different department a lot from the original OP number. Is this normal?

    • +1

That is strange! Are they telling you the plan is not available?

I remember calling on behalf of a friend and got transferred a few times and they said it wasn't available, which I laughed and didn't bother trying to argue with them. I called again about 10mins later and got them signed up straight away with the first rep (which should be their retention's team).

If you get stuck further PM me and I'll see what I can do to help.

      • +1

Edit. 99th times the charm. Got the 20c just now. Keep fighting guys! It’s doable.

I won’t lie I really believed they had a note on my account pretty much saying don’t give it to me lol.

If you get transferred i would suggest hanging up and calling back. You need to speak with the first operator of the op number.

Screenshot of this helps anyone. https://ibb.co/VCbVvvC

  • +1

You are a LEGEND mate. Thanks heaps. I got 8kw inverter with 10.29kw panels. This this plan will put me in credit.

So here is my journey to the west.
I’m currently don't have an active account them Origin.
First go got transfer to new connection team and got rubbish plan online with 6c. Told him no thanks. (however I found out my old profile is still on their data base)
Second go got nice lady who sign me straight up to 20c no question ask after I mention I got an existing profile with them(about 2 years ago)

Also offered the $20 off any nbn plan. Any idea origin nbn is any good?

    • +1

      Great to hear!

Regarding their NBN plans. The deal is okay without being awesome but also depends on what speed you can get. So if you can't get up to 100/40 speeds, then the lower plans are priced okay.

  • sorry, posted in error

  • +1

I had no problem getting onto the plan today either.

  • +1

Thanks OP and others for your contribution.
I gave it a second try this arvo and managed to sign up for the 21c FIT on electricity for 12 months and 28% off reference for gas. This is me switching from Alinta.
It seems it depends who you get on the phone.
I'm in NSW on endeavour network for electricity.

    • +1

      Fantastic to hear! Well done.

  • Hi OP,

Thanks very much I was able to sign up last year around June. Would you happen to know if they'd keep the same FIT rate after 12 month or if I need to call up their retention team before my current 12 month expire to keep the same rates?

    • I'd call up and reconnect if you can. That's what I did back in December just in case they stop offering it. At this stage, it is still the best FIT for high feed back to the grid users.

      • +1

        Thanks

  • Does anyone know if this includes a time of use or off peak rate?

    • Sorry, I don't know enough about off peak/time of use rates. I don't use it so haven't ever asked about going a plan with these benefits/features. Maybe others can help you here?

    • +1

My 20 cents per KWH feed in tariff contract included the following:

. Peak Usage Rate of 23.8350 cents per kWH, with a Supply Charge of 111.4980 cents per day

. T33-Controlled Supply (Economy) Rate of 18.0230 cents per kWH, with a Controlled Load Supply Charge of 2.5870 cents per day

  • +2

thanks CrocDundee, rang today no issues, they offered either the 15c FIT with 23% discount or the flat 20C FIT
you sir are a legend, much appreciate it

  • I just had solar installed today and am with AGL. Do I need to wait for Energex to do their stuff before I can call Origin to put me on this plan? Wondering if I need to have Energex finish their bit and then let AGL put me on a solar plan first before moving away from them…

    • Yes - wait til you get the meter upgrade through AGL before switching over to Origin.

  • +2

Rang today and got the 20c FIT. Spoke to Sara.

  • +2

Rang today on the 1800 557 700 number and got onto Sara and was able to get the 20c FIT deal or the 15c & 23% discount offer for my Solar Boost renewal.

No issues at all and she was happy to offer it so offer is definitely still available. She also passed on her direct number so if anyone is hitting a rock well getting the deal send me a DM and I'll pass it on. Also they are now reselling AussieBB with a bundling discount using AussieBb support and network so anyone who is an existing AussieBB customer like I am can save a bit. Having them send through the info on what's on offer with that before I take them up on that one. There is a thread on Whirlpool discussing the deal between Aussie and Origin HERE https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9z88nqj9

    • Hey mate you have PM off, but can I get her number? Cheers

      • Whoops sry sent you a msg with the number

      • Hi :D Can you send me Sara's direct number if you still have it? Thanks :D

    • Hey Mate, can you send the number, you have PM's turned off.

      • whoops sry sent you a msg with the number

    • Hi mate, could you please PM Sara's number as well. Many Thx.

      • you'll have to turn on private messages. Just send me a msg when you do and I'll send through the details

        • Done the setting. Please have a try. Thx.

    • Hi mate,Could you please help me with Sara's direct Number in Origin?

    • Hi mate, do you still have Sara's number?

      • turn on your PM's msg me and I'll send it to you

        • Done.

        • hey mate, would you be able to PM me the number as well? Been trying for several days with the number listed in the OP with no avail :(

  • I've been on the 20c FIT since June 2020, and was hoping to renew this. Anyone have any success in reconnecting? I've called 3 times and they transferred me each time, and got rejected each time as well, explaining how there's only a 14c FIT deal at the moment.

    • I was able to reconnect earlier this year for another 12 months. Maybe try quozi and get the direct number for Sara?

    • +4

I got the deal yesterday renewing for another 12 months. Turn on your private messages and msg me and I'll send you the number of the woman i dealt with who was happy to help.

      • Could you please help me with the number?

Trying to renew 23% off and 15c FIT but getting denied :/

        • +1

Sent through to your private messages

          • @quozl: Hi ,Could you please help me with the direct number Origin ?

Trying to renew 23% off and 15c FIT

      • Could you please help me with the number as well? Have been with the plan for a year and would like to extend for another year. Thanks in advance!

        • Have you managed to renew yet?

          • @PR0r: I haven't. Sara doesn't answer calls or return messages :(

      • could you please help me with the number?

  • +2

Just had this deal offered to me for anyone wanting it. Got a direct number for anyone wanting one aswell for the guy who offerered it.

    • Any chance you could share this with me? I'm about a week out before my current 20c fit plan ends. I've tried ringing about 4 times and have been rejected each time.

    • just got rejected a few times too, any chance you could share the contact please? thanks in advance

    • Would you please PM me the info as well?

    • Hi, just wondering if you still have the direct number as the 1800 number is not working for the 20c feed in tariff

    • Can i get his number as well please :D

  • Just called the 1800 number from OP and got 20c first attempt. I think it’s pretty standard now. She said they are currently offering 20c FIT

  • i just called the retention team too. wasn't able to renew at 20c - apparently it no longer is offered??? :o nooooo
lady said i could renew at 15c FIT
the standard online solar boost offer to anyone is now 14c
    did they change overnight?

    • +1

update: tried again and got through, 20c still being offered by Aussie retention team.
Philippines sales team don't have access to it and sometimes we are transferred to them after calling 1800 577 700 number

      • Yeah - my advice, keep calling til you get the right person who knows what they are doing! They can be very frustrating!! Well done on only having to call twice! :)

        • oh ha ha no ive called about 6 times over the last month ha ha. i only just got my renewal/expiry email a few days ago tho lol

  • +1

Just renewed for another 1 year no questions asked. thanks by again op

  • +2

I needed to call 3 times before the 20c FIT was offered. If you are transferred to other teams, they most likely are not going to give you the 20c FIT deal. Don't give up on your first try!

    Thanks OP

  • Whats the best FIT available in Victoria ?
This 20c deal is only in QLD yea ?

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

Can confirm the original 1800 number still work.

Just asked for Solar Boost plan with 20c FIT today and got it on first go.
Doesn't have to be existing customer.
    I'm in QLD.

  • Just got it renewed too by calling the 1800 number

  • How much $$ credit has everyone been getting with this offer so far? The best I got was $900 credit in middle of summer. I have 10kw inverter (3 phase) with 15kw of panels located SEQ

    • Similar to you, I received $1,328 for my bill in Sept - Dec. The Dec - March qrt was $975 due to all the rain we had over Jan/Feb. Very happy with my returns. Have already paid off my system and now earning a passive income. Not sure what Tax implications incur from the money made now??!

    • +1

10kW of panels here, family with 3 teenagers, pool, 5 air conditioners…
Around $830 credit over the last 11 months. Best bill was $400.

      • Wow, that’s solid. Is that a three phase system?

        • You've replied to me, but my figures are the least impressive, did you mean to reply to someone else? Mine is single phase.

          • +1

@PepePepeson: Hey Pepe, yep I replied because I just got a bill for 48 bucks on my account and trying to figure out where I’m going wrong with my 10kw system in SEQ. Two adults and a new baby and pool pump so some similarities! Unless I’m confused you are getting credit at the end of your quarter. I may be way off, but pm me if you can help steer me in the right direction. Cheers mate

  • Hi CrocDundee.
Leaning on your expertise again ;-)
Just wondering if Origin with the 23% discount on the reference price is still the best in Brisbane with no solar (discounted Peak 18.43c/Kw inc GST, and discounted supply 85.853c/day inc GSTL
I was looking online and came across Elysian Energy.
Their rate is peak 14.85c/Kw (up to 20Kw/day averaged over a quarter) and supply 84.15c/day.
I think Elysian seems really good if usage is less than 20kw/day or 1800Kw/quarter.
Not sure if I am missing something. What do you think?

    • Hey Mad Max - unfortunately, I haven't really kept track of plans with no solar so I wouldn't be able to give you an educated opinion, sorry. I would think that there are far better deals out there than the 23% off origin offer (which I only think is available for houses that have solar?) so it would just be a matter of doing your homework. Sorry I couldn't be any help.

  • Called the 1800 number expecting not to get this deal- pleasantly surprised they gave it to me without any issues.

    Based in Brisbane, postcode 4014.

Rates even better than original post:
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/197496/89402/screensho…

    • Yes - my rates have also come down to your screenshot as well. Anyone on this plan will have the same charge rate. Well done on getting it first go.

I also helped a friend of mine get it Thursday evening. No questions asked, put straight onto the 20c FIT plan.

      • +1

Yeah right. Thanks for posting original deal!

  • I tried over and over and over to get this. Couldn't. Then I signed up with another retailer and with 24 hours to go until the change over Origin called and offered me either 23% off usage+supply and 15c FIT or 0% off and 20c FIT my choice.

So for those who can't get it, it might be worth rolling the dice on initiating a change to another retailer

    • That's frustrating! Glad you ended up getting the deal but I still don't know why they just don't give people the deal straight away…

  • Just signed up. Deal still active. Spoke to Claudia

  • No luck with my first attempt - was told 20c FIT was last years plan. Will try again another day.

    • Same here. Have tried 3 times now, "only deal available in the system is Solar Boost with 15c FIT.
Left message with Sara, a few days ago, no response.

      • Same here. Was existing customer on this plan, they would only give me 15c.
Any better deals for QLD atm?

        • It sucks and gets frustrating but you just have to keep trying til you get the right rep that will give you the deal. It is 100% still available and should be easily obtained. Origin are just a pain!

          • @CrocDundee: Even for existing customers who had it before? Maybe I should sign up with another provider then call them again to see if they’ll come to the party .. though I don’t know if any others that are even doing more than 15c(?)

            • +2

@steve84: Yes, even for existing customers. I helped a friend of mine by calling up the 1800 number about a week ago and the rep did it no hassle at all. They were already existing Origin customers.

  • +1

Can confirm that this still works! Just renewed back to the 20c FIT for a second time.

  • Does this only work for Net metered Solar PV systems?

I'm about to move to a new house, no idea if it's net or gross metered!

I have a copy of the current owner latest bill, it shows: \
    1. Any time usage
    2. Controlled Load 2
    3. Solar import
    4. Supply Charge

How do it tell from the bill if it's Net metered??

  • Has anyone got into this recently?
I just tried on of the sales person and she only offers 15c FIT.
I will keep trying to get 20c but she said it is due to the some sort of regulation, so she can offer 15c per kw.
Has anyone trying today or soon?

    • I tried last week to renew after 12 months on the 15c plan. They wouldnt offer me the 23% discount, only the 15c and the reference rate. Will try again this week.

      • Just tried third attempts, no luck. I said yes for 12 months contract with no lock in(As normal).
Could not even get 23% discount…
Will try again later. But feels like the luck is fading away now…..

        • Make sure you're calling the 1800 number in the post.

          • @PepePepeson: I am calling the 1800 number.
I will update once it is successful.

            • @rejoice86: Yea mate still working,
dont let them transfer you from the 1800 number as that team can give you the deal,

  • +1

Just called them today. They put me on hold for 1 min to talk to the manager, but granted on my first call.
    crocdundee da man!

    • Do you know the name of the sales person?
Just rang them again. No luck…

  • I've tried to renew mine on a couple of occasions now and they keep transferring me to the renewal team. I gather once they transfer me I'm wasting my time since the the next team doesn't seem to be able to access the discounted rate.

    • It is the 'retention team' that you get the deal from. Not sure why they are transferring you to the renewal team?

      • as soon as I say that my plan is just about to end and I'd like to renew on the same plan, they transfer me. It must be all in the wording. Maybe I don't tell them it's about to expire, just ask them to apply it to my account….

        • +1

I don't think that should matter either? Just origin being their useless selves again I think.

Just keep saying you want to speak to the retention team (which is the 1800 number) to get the 20c FIT plan.

  • +1

I got through first go today. Maintained my 20c FIT and was also given a 12% discount on gas.

  • +1

    Just an update;
Still going as i just got onto the plan
    20c FIT
    22.6710c/kWh usage
    112.9040c Supply Charge!

  • +1

My mate got in today, no hassle on the 1800 number.

  • +1

Called the 1800 number today and was offered both plans first go, thanks!
