Good? Bought it for $999 previously. It‘s my first gaming desktop in my life but I don’t play games so I’ve been happy with it.

      • Only got marked as refurb after I bought!

  • (profanity) this. i'm cancelling too

  • My order confirmation email did not mention anything about it being a refurb.

My order page still does not mention refurb at all.

If I receive a refurb, I will be returning.

    • I’ll do the same thing, but how do we know it is refurb?

      • Box will be marked with a piece of paper with refurb written on it.

  • I looked up the price for the CPU itself and it's around $500 just by itself. If the pc is purchased with Shopback( about 8.5%) it gets close to $600 the whole package..which includes motherboard, graphic card ,ssd etc..I think it's still good value even though refurbished?

    • Yeah lots of folks having a tantrum about being refurbished when even that deal is probably too good to honour 😂

Granted that’s not what was advertised so they’d be well within their rights to reject it… which may jeopardise the deal for everyone.

    • Cost vs value. Do you place $500 value on that CPU?

      • We don't talk about value because it's subjective. I'm talking about building up a system based on the same components and the final cost.

    • cashback not eligible for this since the voucher code isnt shopback approved. Youre looking at the brand new price rrp for the cpu? the whole point of refurb is it could be worn up and slowed down by who knows how much

      • Fair enough. If it's slowed down I will simply return it based on their wrong description.

      • +1

I have had no problems getting cashback from many retailers even using non ShopBack approved codes. It’s always worth a try.

      • +1

I got confirmation from Shopback for $63.67 cashback.

        • Lucky you. I ordered a day earlier and only got $16 cashback.

    • The CPU is old and only worth like $200 today; brand new.

      • +1

Can you provide a link for that price? At Umart and many other places is around $500 unless we talk about a different cpu.

        https://www.umart.com.au/Intel-Core-i7-8700-Six-Core-LGA-115…

        • It performs slightly slower than the Ryzen 3600, which can be bought for $280ish today. It’s also comparable to the 3500X (which is just a 3600 without SMT) and that can be bought for $200.

          • +1

@dualcore: I don't doubt that. Like I said before I'm not talking about value but price only. I'm sure Ryzen is better value especially if you play games.

  • I got an email cancellation last night. The reason stated was payment clearance issues, incorrect shipping address, suspected fraudulent activity, inability of HP to get in contact with you or other issues, LOL.

Now off to chase them for the refund.

    • The refund will take between 8-10 days.

    • wow they threw the whole book at you

      • +1

It's good to know what to expect don't you think?

  • I have just called ̱HP on the phone. The agent confirmed the order is still active and has not been cancelled, and also confirmed that it is a new unit and not a refurb.

    • That's good news!

    • It’s a refurb unless you can prove it’s not is HPs stance.

      • It will be marked as "refurbished" in the documentation. Also I find it hard to believe they will send out around 2000 units refurbished. It's easier in my opinion to find new stock than refurbished one for such amount.

    • Did they mention when the orders will be shipped?

      • I asked them this morning and they will provide more info within 24-48 hours.

  • Folks, just got the call we've all been expecting from HP Sales, to confirm that they had stuffed up and that the item was in fact REFURBISHED not NEW as advertised.

In addition they have no more supply to fill orders (if in fact they ever had any stock in the first place).

  • Was just contacted by phone and told the listing was meant to be refurbished. They don't have any stock left so offered 50% off a more expensive Pavillion (~$1100) or a 590 model for ~$620. Didn't enquire about the specifics as i wasn't interested in the other models so just requested a cancellation/refund. Oh well.

I logged into my account and see my order has been cancelled.
No email or call from them, pretty crap service not to notify me.

    • +2

Same here. Order cancelled. But nothing refunded. Chasing HP for the PayPal refund now.

That'll teach me to go HP again.

      • Aaaannd the after sales service is closed on weekends.

        HP, never again.

        • I cancelled mine on Thursday and was told 1 business day to process + 7 working days for refund… have not received a cancellation email yet…

          • @dandosr: 8 working days for a refund? That's absolutely shocking from a company like HP.

I wonder if I should just open a PayPal dispute.

  • Very strange. If I log into my HP account on any mobile browser it lists that my order has been cancelled, but when using any desktop browser it still shows my order is active and processing. It has been like this for a day.

Most likely the mobile browser is showing the correct status but don't know why there is a discrepancy when I'm logging in via the same URL on every device

    • Cache. Ctrl +F5

      • Strangely it is not Cache related. Have done that before and also have logged in and out on different desktop browsers on two different computers. Problem remains

Edit: must be somehow related to a desktop vs mobile site thing. Forcing desktop website mode on mobile browser gives order still processing like on my regular computers

  • Just confirmed what others have found.
On my mobile it shows my order has been cancelled, on my laptop its processing but has changed to a refurbished model.
No emails or phone calls from them.
Paypal transaction has gone through, and no refund.
Ill wait a bit and see what happens before i make contact, either way what ever happens pretty poor service to not notify me that its either cancelled or there sending a refurbished unit.

    • +1

As we paid with Paypal we can always open a dispute to get our money back. It's annoying as for me this is the first time that happens with a retailer that keeps the money even though the order is cancelled.

      • Same here. Shocking service from a company like HP.

      • how are you guys seeing the order status? is this only if i made an account when i bought the pc?

        • Yeah.. You need an account with HP.

          • @Lucius7372: No you don't. They sent an order number to your email addresses you purchased the item under. You can use this to view your orders status on the HP Australia website.

  • On my PC it shows processing however on mobile it shows awaiting payment even though I paid through PayPal, strange.
I'll wait out the weekend and see if I hear anything from their support before contacting them.

  • These HP website screw-ups are always a gamble, time-frame for refunds is ridiculous though

Are they also refurbished or new condition?

Whatever people do, the i7 one is terrible value for the price. The i5 one could be ok if someone needs a mid-range general purpose computer with a warranty. But definitely no where near as powerful as the original computer in the deal

      • +1

        Brand new.

      • Could you please point out which parts of the new computer is terrible compared to the original one? I was offered the same deal and thinking to accept the offer as I am needing one new computer for work. Thank you.

        • For the i7 it's not a 'terrible' computer but it is quite bad from a value stand-point when considering they want $1274. For the i7-9700F model offered, the CPU is about the same or a bit faster compared to the i7-8700 in the original deal posted here, however the GPU is a step down vs the GTX 1060.

Many of the techfast deals posted here come with far better specifications (e.g. same i7 CPU but RTX 2070 Super as a GPU - a massively more powerful video card) for the same amount of cash or less (with a GTX 1070, which is also far more powerful than the GTX 1050 Ti offered). See the following deals for examples:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/519879

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/520581

The i5 model offered is not bad for general purpose computing at $625 but the CPU has no hyperthreading compared to the i7-8700 and again the GPU is a step down from the original GTX 1060, all for a price quite close to the original computer posted

          • @JacobHarvey: Thank you so much, I will kindly decline the offer and request the refund instead.

          • @JacobHarvey: THey may offer better bang for buck but I would guess most poeple going for the HP dont want to deal with replacing parts or warranty issues. Something that is more common with the techfast PCs.

  • Just got the call as well - was tempted to go the i5, but settled for refund instead :-)

    • Also just got the call from a hard to understand call centre? operator reading the script. I'm bloddy pissed off, I hadn't come back to read this ozbargain page after ordering. We'd like to sell you something (which they described as same specs) for $1200 marked down from $2400. You have to be shting me. I wouldn't buy anything from a seller who "runs out of stock" of something refurbished but not advertised as such, offering an alternative for twice the price. Stick HP where the HB don't fit.

  • Does anyone know if I get a refund if I reply to their call?

  • This is the i5 replacement on offer : https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hp-pavilion-i5-8gb-1tb-hdd-d…
For $625, what does everyone think ?

    • See a few posts up.

    • Not worth it.

    • Looks like the $1274 option?

      • No, it's the i5. The $1274 is i7.

  • so when do they process the refund? they're so slow

    • They said 7 days if you paid with Paypal from cancellation. My first order is older than that and still nothing. I've contacted them 4 times already…

      • How many orders did you make? To get higher SB CB?

        • I got two. The first one was just cancelled by HP. No reason provided.

  • They really like to hang onto people's money for as long as possible. Cancelled 1st order 7 days ago, refund has not even registered on paypal account let alone my card used to pay for the orders

  • just got the i5 replacement unit. order on tuesday and arrived today!! bonus keyboard and mouse. such a good deal for mid gaming user and my needs

    • Nice, if you ever decide to upgrade the GPU in the future just be aware of the 180W PSU when choosing what video card to use

      • will do mate. thanks!!

      • What would you expect is the most powerful card it could reasonably take?

        • +1

With current gen GPUs, a GTX 1650 (non super) would probably be the absolute limit on a 180W PSU with the 65W i5-9400 CPU (+ Motherboard, RAM, DVD Drive power draw etc.)

          • +1

@JacobHarvey: Thank you for sharing your knoweldge with me. The system would be for my sister. She plays rocket league, dota and wreckfest with us but there is potential for some new games down the track and I think a 1650 is just too low.

  • FYI - I called HP today to see where the hell my refund was and they are now saying by the 4th of March I should have the funds… so 13 days for a refund.. Woo.

  • Have anyone started a dispute with PayPal?

  • I just got the PayPal email saying it's been refunded. Asked them for a refund on Monday, so it took 4 working days.

  • Has anyone else had luck with a refund? Mine was due today and upon calling they said they had some "issues" where my refund was only issued on the 26th which may mean that it will be another week (3 weeks total) - this is like my 6th phone call to them.. getting so fed up.. I should have lodged a request with the bank to pull funds…

    • I’m glad I didn’t jump on this hp “deal”. What a headache for you 😝.

    • No…it's 8th of march, on 24th of february they declined the transaction, but still haven't refunded my money.
UNSCRUPULOUS BASTARDS! if you were in business and already screwed over the client base by misdescribing, then withdrawing an offer - wouldn't you try to salvage your reputation by refunding quickly? Time to throw some shit!

      • You should have disputed it with your PayPal or bank. I only got a refund 24 hours after doing that. I had 4 emails ignored and called 2 times before.

        • I am going to call the bank tomorrow. Cheers.

      • they said they would expedite my refund and it would take "processing time" + 4-7 working days instead of the usual 7+? working days, they told me my refund was processed on the 26th so my refund would be in by the 4th… it is now the 8th. I keep calling, they keep telling me it is processing??? Has HP been taken over by Nigerian scammers???

        • I just disputed my transaction with credit card folks - they reckon funds will be returned within 3 days. I also shared my thoughts about hewlett dickwads on the product review website.

    • I also just started a refund on my paypal - been 2 weeks since they called me and said they were going to refund me…

      • +1

Refund came into my credit card today.
