MOD: Many OzBargainers have reported, and HP Live Agent confirmed that this product is refurbished rather than a brand new unit.

Good? Bought it for $999 previously. It‘s my first gaming desktop in my life but I don’t play games so I’ve been happy with it.

Looks to be decent spec’d for the price

310w psu. Why do they put such tiny power supplies in a build with dedicated graphics and i7. Otherwise great value, includes optical drive and card reader also.

    • +2

These PSU's are often 80+ Gold/Platinum like most of their SFF pre-builds.

    • +1

Well, mainly because they don't need anything more.

    • +3

It's really weird when people make these comments about power supplies.

      https://www.techspot.com/review/1209-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060…

Whole system consumption with an i7 and this graphics card is gonna be about 200W, why would you complain about the inclusion of a 300W unit?

    • +3

      warranty?

      • -3

True, no warranty with people off Gumtree, but we're almost 2 years since the deal, and it's trucking along fine. It may well have died a week after owning it, that's true.

        • Your one is worst, it is a 7th Gen i5. I suggest not to get your one on gumtree as you don't know where the pc has been. Your computer maybe infested with cockroaches or other crap because it was not brand new.

    • +2

4 cores compared to 6 with threading is not similar at all.

      • +10

8700 is 6 Cores 12 Threads (not 8 cores), but yes your point still stands. The i7-8700 blows away the i5-7500

      • Hmm thought edits were locked after original comment is replied to.

Must have edited while I replied at pretty much the exact same time

    • +1

      https://www.techspot.com/review/1983-intel-vs-amd-budget-cpu…
i5-7500 is actually worse than the i3-9100F (lower clock speed) and unfortunately doesn't age well. If it was the old 4c/8t i7 it would have been decent, but the old locked 4c i5 is seriously lagging behind now, slower than i3-9100F which is around $130.

    • +1

Price of that system has gone down by now, their point was if you spend time you can get deals.

  • +20

    Use voucher code: NATION10%
And the price comes down to $675 ish.

    • Nice pick up!

      • Just passing on the code that also worked on the EliteOne 800 deal late last year.

  • Awesome deal. Well done

good buy the ryzen 5 2600 for same price

    Ryzen 5 2600
GTX 1070 Founders Edition (1 year warranty)
    Biostar A320 motherboard (B450 Upgrade $79)
    16GB 2666MHz RAM
    240GB SSD
    550W PSU
Leaper Mid or Flair RGB Case

    • this cpu is faster than the ryzen…

      • +3

But the gpu in the ryzen system is better.
And if it’s for gaming, then the cpus in both are close enough in performance that it’s the gpu that actually matters.

        • +5

you're paying an extra 100 for the 1070 of course…

really depends on what you want

          • +4

            @abctoz: Absolutely a fair point.
But also a 550w psu and double the ram.

      • Ryzen can be overclocked greatly on passive cooling alone though unsure if these machines allow it in the BIOS

    • +10

      No Windows inc.

  • +1

Yeah I bought a similar HP, the 720a in 2016. It was a good buy for me at the time, but I could have still done better. This system uses proprietary hardware, so it is actually locked to certain specifications. For example, you can't change the power supply easily, which then limits your upgrade options. However, if you are happy with average performance in favor of reliability + warranty, then it might be worthwhile.

  • +1

Weirdly I actually am having this at the moment.

Despite the PSU being only 310W, I was able to upgrade it to RTX 2060 Super 8GB! The variant is MSI Aero ITX (Small form factor). You just needed to buy a 6pin to 8pin connector for only $1-2 on eBay.

I know it was a risky move but the system was surprisingly stable. I am running it 24/7 as a Remote Desktop for me running a couple of tensorflow model.

The PSU is actually rated Gold I think. I also bought a TP Link TS110 smart switch to monitor usage and at max use (training model) it draws only 300W from the power source.

Also upgraded Ram to 32GB and 2TB nVme.

    • How many SATA total?

      • Chat support are saying none :( - edited… note the sass from HP

Thank you for contacting HP. My name is <edited>. I’d be more than glad to assist you today. May I know whom am I chatting with?

        8:19 pm
        My name is <edited>.
I would like to know how many SATA ports it has available for adding additional internal hard drives.

        8:22 pm
Upon checking, it only comes with an extra 1 M.2 for an SSD.
so there are zero SATA ports available?

        8:25 pm
        No SATA.

        8:25 pm
this unfortunately limits the storage of the PC

        8:25 pm
Anyway, it doesn't have stock and no update if it may or may not be back in stock

        • +3

The rep is dumb. They're thinking how many SATA HDD/SSDs are included. Looking at the motherboard it's only 3.

          https://support.hp.com/au-en/product/hp-pavilion-gaming-690-…

          • @Clear: Its getting worse (and I couldn't resist):

            Ivy
Anyway, it doesn't have stock and no update if it may or may not be back in stock again.

            8:27 pm
but I already have it in my cart? It says it is available???

            8:28 pm
            Ivy
            No, it's not.

            8:28 pm
Upon checking, it has 0 inventory.

that is unfortunate, you should remove it from the website then I think?

            8:29 pm
            Ivy
It's not yet refreshed. I'll raise this concern to our website management.

            8:30 pm
Is there anything else I can assist you with before we end this chat?
Just trust me. It doesn't have stocks. If you'll continue to purchase, it will be cancelled.

            • +1

              @khepri: Ivy is poisonous

            • +1

@khepri: All their smart people hopped over to HPe.

            • @khepri: wow… there is the chance that people ahead of you will cancel their orders.

      • +2

        There are 3 SATA ports.

1 already connected to the CD Rom. 2 more slots for SSD/HDD. Note that there are only 2 Standard hard drive power cables so you can’t convert the CD Rom bay to HDD easily.

There is also a PCIe 3.0x1 which I converted to a second nvme.

        • Thanks for the info, but not being a "techie", can you clarify if I could easily :

          a) add a 2nd SSD/HDD principally for storage (using the existing 256 GB NVMe for Windows and some apps) or

          b) add a 2nd NVMe (would that require any adapter ?)

    • +2

You live a very dangerous life. I envy the size of those gonads.

      • Hahah I know. However I bought the SFF card which in real life usage draws much less than the TPU of normal 2060S card.

It’s definitely too close to the edge but hey for the last year it has been rock solid.

  • +1

Chatting to a live agent - they are saying it's out of stock. And its a refurb PC. Good deal otherwise… great specs.

    • It doesn't say refurb anywhere from what I can see.

      • The live agent confirmed this is a REFURB PC - the fact that it doesn't mention it on HP website is bad.

        • If they don’t send the brandnew one, immediately return it and report to ACCC for misleading

  • +1

Wow this deal kills tech fast recent deals! Going to buy two.

    • yikes how do you feel getting baited and switched on refurbs

  • I just ordered? Have notification order has been completed? Seems like a good deal so I jumped on it.

  • +1

This was $900 (after gift card and cash back last June) -
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/462663
There are 2 SATA ports on board, I added 2 x 4TB drives and additional 8GB RAM

  • +2

    I put an order through.

I'm not expecting it to be honored but will be thrilled if it is.
My radeon r9 270x just kicked the bucket and to be honest the i3 6100 I've got paired with it was a stupid purchase.

If this doesn't go through I think I'll build an r5 2600/1660 super build - obviously will cost more.

  • The code doesn't work???

    • Worked for me just then while testing it out in the cart

  • Ordered. I hope it’s not cancelled. Was waiting for a TechFast deal until this came along.

  • My order is cancelled already. If you have an account with HP you're able to see your past orders. Money were taken though..

    • Damn, that’s fast. Mine still shows Processing.

    • +2

Is this going to be another HP website fiasco like the OMEN gaming laptop deal?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/474336

9 pages of the Ozbargain community losing their minds over what was potentially the laptop deal of the decade (even though most knew it was too good to be true - nevertheless did not stop some people contacting ACCC)

    • If anyone gets theirs let the rest of us know

      • +2

        Order first. Ask questions later.

  • After buying one of these…

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/506821
and getting the free upgrade to a newer model..
I think I will try my luck again..

  • +4

'1553 people have purchased this product today'

Well then! Good luck all 😅

  • Paid!

For detailed motherboard view and specs: https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06036537

  • I noticed the delivery eta on the link has changed - probably an automated update but gives me some hope that more are coming in…

  • hrmm tempted to upgrade from my old HP G1 i7 4770

Will I noticed a much better performance??

and isn't the 1060 quite dated now??

  • Did your orders get processed? IE charged and 100% confirmation of purchase. Seems confusing from above messages. Seems an awesome deal.

  • Ordered and waiting. Hope we all get it. Good bargain.

  • Trying to get a refund but I'm ignored during chat session…Interesting..

  • "As per checking, the order is now waiting for the stocks to be allocated"..so my order went through even though it says "cancelled"

  • Also the new order status says "HP Pav Gaming 690-0011 Refurbished DT PC"…so it's refurbished after all..still good for the price..

    • +1

So we all bought refurbished stock that was described as new stock?

    • +1

Talked to live chat and received this:

      Vince
Please allow within 24-48 hours to update your order
      11:32 am
      Yes

      11:32 am
I also wanted to re-confirm that this product is NOT refurbished

      Vince
      It is not refurbish
      11:34 am

    • Mine doesn't say Refurb on the My Orders page.

The original link also still doesn't say refurb.

  • lucky i waited, the "refurb" bit is a turn off

  • Has anyone called through and gotten a definitive answer on this?

I don't mind if it's cancelled just want to know so that I can start purchasing parts for a separate build if that's the case.

  • I've confirmed it's refurbished

  • 15 day delivery time, in stock for order

  • There are quite of few people that ordered this. If they're all refurbished then what can be said about the quality of this pc especially in the long run?

  • It's like the HP chat people still do not know exactly what is going on a day later (in stock or unavailable?, refurbished or new?)

  • I was on the phone with HP and they hope that it might be just an error from their side and in fact we might receive a non refurbished item. Mine is supposed to be shipped before the 24th and I was asked to keep an eye on the package itself and order to see if it says "refurbished". I will update once I receive the unit.

  • Ah, chat also told me it's refurbished.
    I might cancel it, then.

  • This is turning out to be a hassle.
They can't confirm whether it's refurb or not.
All they can say is they'll get back to me within 24 hours.
I said they'd better not ship it if it's Refurb and to put the order on hold until they can confirm.

    • I've asked them to cancel the order. We'll see how it goes.

    • I just got off the phone to HP who said that they are aware of the issue and it has been escalated - it took some asking however they eventually admitted that it was an error, they are all refurbished and that stock hasn't even been allocated to for fill the orders. I told them that I bought a new computer not refurbished to which they said they would refund me.. which I accepted.

  • Is refurbishment such a big issue? Still has warranty - that said there was no indication of refurbishment when I ordered. Potentially a claim for some additional discount?

  • Cancelled mine as well.

I can't accept refurb. Who knows the condition of the unit and how long it has been used for, if that's the case.

Too good to be true, indeed.

  • What.. an interesting plan…

Tell everybody it is refurbished.. then most orders will be cancelled..
Then sort out the people.. who don't cancel.. with new updated models.. (when they figure out they dont have enough stock of the run out model..)..

    Bought this here
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/506821
    Obviously oversold…
A bunch of us got upgraded to the newer G5 model free of charge.. though we had to wait another 6 weeks or so..

I am happy to hold tight.. no rush for the machine as yet

    • Like most e-commerce sites under their t&cs they reserve the right to refund if their is a pricing or advertising error.

  • I bought a brand new HP 190-0068a from another deal here on OZB (a more basic PC, btw) from JB a few weeks ago instead of a refurbished HP like this Pavilion 690.

  • im crying give me back my money
