Does not come with RAM, SSD or Windows Keys
Efficient CPU for 24/7 running (15W). Power Performance is way above N100.
Has 2x2.5Gbps (Realtek) NICs for running OPNSense/PFSense/Openwrt
Has 2xm.2 2280 NVME slots.
2xDDR4 RAM slots
1 blower style fan for CPU in the bottom and a 70mm fan up top for SSD/RAM. Based on my experience with K8 Plus the top fan helps SSD temps.
Hardware layout and the box is pretty similar to K8 Plus that I have.

I was looking into N100 Mini PCs for running bare-metal OPNsense and found this one to be a better deal, so I went for it. It’s plenty powerful for OPNsense/pfSense, and you can go wild with IDS/IPS rules without any worries or even try virtualise opnsense and have the resources for other uses. Plus, it’ll help with future-proofing. I already have the GMKtec K8 Plus Mini PC and I’m really happy with it. If you’ve got spare RAM and an SSD, this is a no-brainer.

  • This seems on a par with Amazon

    https://amzn.asia/d/fHWZQTl

    $440 for 1tb and 32gb and windows

    Or $377 with 512gb and 16gb

No dual ethernet ports on that one.

Yep about to edit my comment 😜. And these are much better than the n100 / n97 that I have..

  • Great Device.
IMO Intel N100 type devices are a better solution in THIS class of device due to their lower idle power consumption.
IMO AMD systems tend to be better as a more high-end device as they can have more PCIe lanes and better peak performance.

    • Based on passmark data for performance/tdp 5825 performs approximately 34% better - however in terms of actual CPU performance - 5825U performs better in all benchmarks.

However most cases shouldn't really compare a low powered N100 to Ryzen mobile … cause you're comparing 4c/4t to 8c/16t…. Of course one would draw 15W compare to 9W of N100. Ideally you should compare similar cores.

Real life power usage and idle powers, I'd see would be negligible - your fridge and other appliances draws more power.

I've had the N100 in my Chuwi Herobox, and found it very underwhelming. Very capable as an office computer, and handled fine as a Batocera emulator, but underperformed during Steam link streaming.

    • They aren't the same class… 5825U is ~3.5x faster in multithreaded apps. Some apps just simply won't run on an N100…
I had to use the N100 in TAFE in a Chromebook and it couldn't even handle browsing the web with a word (word-like, weren't allowed to install 3rd party so it was basically just another repurposed Chrome instance) document open…

Are you running it off a powerbank? I think most people just plug them into the wall and 1-2w saving during idle is pointless off wall.

    • For more clarification, Idle Power Consumption is different from TDP
      To explain to those who are not in the know;
If you have a CPU component that idles at 4w, and draws 15w at peak, 24/7 system, and draws peak 5% of the time.
Your monthly electricity consumption is 3.276kwh

Using a post from this reddit thread comparing 5825u vs N100 systems
It seems about 7w idles is to be expected from a 5825u. So if the component idles at 7w, and draws 15w at peak, is on 24/7, and peaks 5% of the time.
Your monthly electricity consumption is 5.328kwh

If you pay an average of $0.3/kwh, the 7w idle system has an annualised cost of $19.18. Assuming you use it for 10 years, at an inflation rate of 3% and you were to offset it against a treasury rate of 4.4%. The amount needed to offset this electricity cost is $152.52 today

Compared to a N100 with a power limit configured to 10w, it's $100.60. This is the biggest reason why people care about where their systems idle at. If you personally think who cares, the performance is worth it. That's a statement most people would agree with.

So if you're looking for a home media server, perhaps the N100 is enough
If you're looking for a desktop replacement, then the 5825u is preferred.

    • WTH, that is a great deal if it is true. Seems too good to be true.

      🤔

    • ha, I reported the same deal last week at a different store! store got disappeared.

I linked to the same product at the official store, for 2x the price.

Only takes a minute to do, will save some other punter some grief.

  • Does this one have HDMI 2.1 capabilities? Was wanting something that'll support moonlight 4k@120hz

    • HDMI 2.0b so 4k60hz max

However, 4k120hz should be achievable over the DP 1.4 port but I haven’t tested this myself.

  • +1

This deal three months ago was better with Ryzen 5 6600H, DDR5, PCIE ver 4.

But this is still a good offer based on current exchange rate and if you need something like this now.

I have both GMKtec M5 Plus and M6. Both are good products.

  • By the time I put this in checkout it comes up to $344 delivered. Shouldn't the GST 10% ($31.30) should be included in the price in the post title?

    • +1

Did you add the coupon code?

My apology - I didn't put the promo code in

  • Seems like a great choice for a homelab. The things that are usually cons aren't an issue for labbing. Things like being barebones and using DDR4 aren't an issue for labbing, you're probably bringing your own RAM and don't mind having it be a bit cheaper with DDR4. It also sips power at 15W compared to like a 6600H which uses three times the power for roughly the same performance, dual 2.5Gbps ports are fantastic for labs although I wish they were intel NICs, I think these are Realtek.

  • Anyone can teach me what is the meaning of those small pcs?
    Personal server?
    Just want to study:)

    • They are just normal PCs in small form factor. So can be used wherever you would use a PC. Some are power efficient, some focus on networking with more RJ45 ports and some have ports for external GPU(thunderbold/oculink/USB4). Most of these have laptop CPUs for efficiency and easier cooling solution.

These are used for homelab(personal server for various tasks) because it is cost effective to setup and operate. Whatever you would run on these can be run on normal desktop/laptop PCs. Depending on the usecases, one may not be ideal than the other. For example, you would want multiple RJ45 ports for router software but laptops wont have multiple RJ45 ports. You can get USB to RJ45 adapters but those are not ideal.

  • Can you have a single USB-C cable to this for power/video/data?
