Gaming PC (OOS): 5 5500, RX 6600 $779/ RTX 4060 $891 | Ryzen 5 7500F, RTX 4060 $1069 + $50 Delivery & More @ Obsidian Labs

1790

Good Evening Ozbargain Community,

I’ve been lurking here forever, admiring the hustle for insane deals and tech treasures. Today, I’m finally stepping out from the shadows to introduce Obsidian Labs, my shiny new venture born out of a borderline unhealthy obsession with gaming hardware. I built my first PC at 11, convincing my parents to drop cash on a pile of parts I promised I could turn into something that wouldn’t explode. Fast forward 5 years, and that same obsession with hardware has turned into Obsidian Labs—a mission to deliver gaming PCs that slap without slapping your wallet.

PC building is more than a hobby to me. I’ve sunk countless hours into tweaking, testing, and building rigs, not just for myself but for friends, family, and anyone brave enough to let me near their setup. After hearing way too many people say, “I wish there was a prebuilt that’s actually worth the price,” I thought, “Fine, I’ll do it myself.”

Here’s the deal: I’m cutting through the noise in the PC market with a focus on honest pricing, killer performance, and vibes (aka actually good service). My goal? To make rigs that balance power, quality, and affordability so well that you won’t feel like you’re getting scammed by Big PC. I know the market’s competitive, and some might have a slight edge on price at the moment, but as the orders come in, I will fine-tune prices and offer even better deals. It’s all about growing together, and I’m excited to see where we can go.

As for my experience in building computers, I’ve sold over 20 units on Facebook Marketplace, maintaining an average 4.9-star rating. So, you can be confident that quality and delivery of the builds won’t be a problem. You can check my profile here.

Anyways, I’ll shut up now—here’s what you came for:

    good luck with your business!

    • +1

Just need clarification if everyone's upvoting in support of the brilliant OP's new business or if the deals are actually godtier?

      • +1

Yeah prices aren't great but he has to start somewhere

  • +43

    Wait, you're 16?

    • Unlikely, but that’s their story.

    • I spoke to him over the phone today and it sounds about right

  • +9

Good luck mate, there's tough competition these parts.

  • Op, your website top banner shows BF sales, save up to $1000…. that's abit of a false advertising statement, isn't it? (even if you use pcpartpicker as your reference point)

    • +9

Good catch, forgot to update the banner!

  • +2

    Good luck dude!

  • -5

Good luck but….let's be real, are you a company or a hobby? Do you have an ABN/ACN?

    • +22

IMO this is not a valid reason to neg the poster and business owner

        • +19

The choices aren't neg or buy champ.

          • +5

@BadAtNames: i agree with you but please stop calling people champs

        • I get what your saying but I'm sure plenty of people have side hussle businesses and this kid will have a lot more time on his hands for customers than most adults with all their out of work responsibilities.

    • +19

Hey Broden - I understand your concern, but building computers is not new for me. I have been doing this for 3 years, and have been selling on other platforms like facebook marketplace. You can check my profile here: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/profile/100052777871131

    • +12

We trust people the same age to learn to use 1+ ton vehicles worth much more with far more risk..

      A computer is a cake-walk in comparison

        • +12

That's a ridiculous hypothetical situation to neg over

What if Sydney exploded so he can't troubleshoot your PC?

All the components still come from reputable manufacturers that will all honour the warranty of faulty components, even if this enterprise goes tits up

            • +12

@Broden: You could train a monkey to put a pc together. There is minimal workmanship involved, it's like 8 mass produced parts that easily click together. Let the kid have a crack

    • +8

Thought you'd be too busy buying ten of em

  • +6

Good Luck! You are my model! I have not stepped out even at my 40s…..

  • +4

It’s a competitive market out there and I’m surprised some small builder with low volumes like you could offer what seems like very good value. Kudos to you, wish you all the best. Will have you bookmarked for the future!

  • Where are you based?

    • +1

      Sydney

  • +3

Starting a newborn business is never easy. Good luck!

  • +1

    Where you based man?

    • Sydney

    • +3

ABN lookup says NSW 2145, so Wentworthville/Westmead etc.

  • Hi mate, I noticed that you offer wifi and BT option for $20. Is that a USB adapter or something like built-in Intel AX200?

    • +2

The wifi + bt adapter is a usb dongle with an antenna. I know the speeds are not the greatest with those. In the future I will try to use motherboards that come with WIFI.

  • +9

No interest in buying a new PC personally, but want to say well done to the OP on starting up a business and doing what he enjoys at such a young age. Provided he manages to overcome the hurdles of after-sales service too, I'm sure he'll do great.

Look forward to seeing potentially glowing reviews of the work you do going forward. Best of luck.

  • +5

Congrats OP, you've got some stones stepping into a cut throat market. You're young and clearly full of passion & drive, and obviously know your stuff. I wish you all the very best in business, with your attitude you'll go far.

  • OZB_FORGE not working :( I upgraded the ram and SSD, does that affect it?

    • tried without any upgrades and it doesnt work

      • Oh, you put the wrong code with the wrong PC build in your description ma boi

        • +2

Sorry - Fixed it. You should be able to use the code with upgrades.

  • +12

The cases are looking good OP. Better than that overdone Antec case you see everywhere. Especially with the theme of white or black. A white mobo would be nice but I understand that's more expensive unless you go with less known brands.

    Unresolved Reports
    1 for Sockpuppeting

Who's the idiot that thinks someone who has marked themselves as Associated with the store is sockpuppeting?

  • If you can also install pre-activated Windows will be perfect!

    • +2

You literally put a USB in when you start a computer and follow promps

  • good luck with your business man hope you do well

  • Hello, I'm interested but was wondering if you do pickup? I am also located in Sydney.

  • Hi is it possible to upgrade the ryzen to a 7 or 9 with 32gb ram ddr5

    • This, will be interested if we can.

  • +9

+1, I respect the hustle for a 16 year old, a lot of us started building PCs around your age, well done and good luck

  • +1

Is Windows included? It's mentioned on marketplace but can't see it on the website

  • So how’d you get prices lower than retail? Bought from suppliers?

    • +3

      Like every other PC supplier?

  • -8

Money going to obsidian, doesn't raise any eyebrows?

  • Best of luck to this venture, good to see a new entrant to this space

  • +2

Good luck mate! It takes balls to open your own business, especially in this market. But hey, entrepreneurship requires some risk taking.

I might change my computer soon (probably when the NVIDIA 5000 series come out so that I can get a good deal on 4000s). I'll check what you offer at that time.

    • +15

Shit advice. The fella wants to build pcs. Let him build

    • +3

Anyone can buy parts online these days, but not everyone can understand compatibilities and configurations, and put the parts together.

    • +9

Also further to this, because I despise people like you. You’re telling a young fella to focus on doing something else. However your second post is you seeking advice because you pulled parts out of your pc and it started smoking.

      Get back in your hole.

      • -1

clap clap for putting your 2cents in. Maybe go find a job so you can afford the parts.

  • Good luck, mate!

  • +2

Good on you mate, it's never easy starting a business. I'm not in the market for a new PC (yet) but still definitely consider your builds when the time eventually comes for me to upgrade. If you offer a case with USB-C ports in future that would be fantastic too! Anyway, until then, best of luck with it and I wish you great success!

  • What are your build and shipping times?

  • Very competitive prices OP, best of luck to you!
(I'm not looking to buy right now, but will definitely check back when I am ready).

  • Have an upvote mate, and good luck!

  • Good on you for taking this leap! All the best and will keep a keen eye out on future deals from you.

  • +1

    Hi OP

Looking to use code "OZB_FORGE" and it says "This discount has reached its usage limit"

    Is this still available?

    Thanks

  • +1

Nice to see the drive and passion but suggest you divert it to another business venture. Have you done a SWOT analysis? This is a saturated market with low barrier to entry. Selling without Windows and without a profit margin is not sustainable. Having only sold 20 units you don't have the purchasing power to compete. Eventually you're going to have to raise prices and you'll realise there is no customer loyalty. Customers will simply go to the next retailer with better prices.

    • What's that ratio again? For every cheap free comment of 'good luck' you make 0.5% towards a real sale?

    • -1

Selling without Windows and without a profit margin is not sustainable.

Actually it is sustainable running parts cost + 5% when you're doing it from your garage and your parents are subsidising overheads

Attitude is everything and this young fella is going places

His website is certainly more appealing than other builders who introduce themselves on their home page with "We are a registered tax compliant business (ABN…"

  • +1

Love seeing this, keep at it OP, running a business is a mental roller coaster just make sure learn as much as you can! and make sure you have public liability insurance. It doesn’t cost much but will have your back. 🤙🏽

  • I saw the business name and the logo and for a moment I thought Obsidian started selling computer hardware: https://obsidian.md/

  • Anyone receive their delivery yet? Been almost 2 weeks

    • +1

Not as yet. Assuming he got slammed with orders. Erring on the positive at the moment.

      • Hey mate, you can email me on [email protected] and I can provide an update on your order status

        • +1

I have emailed a second time. Hoping to get a reply this time.

    • I made my orders on 27th Nov (18 days ago) with a lead time of 7-10 days. Have spoken to him over the phone a few times and emailed back and forth. He sounds naive which should be expected. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt as a new venture. I learnt a lot about life wheeling and dealing in high school, but this is next level!

Communication/customer service could be an area of improvement. We should all give him constructive feedback, as that will only improve his processes. I’m not sure PayID For interstate orders like mine would be recommended in the future because it will just lead to customer anxiety. I think just be upfront and pass on the PayPal fee to the customer for everyone’s peace of mind.

He has approximately 40 orders. Anyone in Sydney actually come pick up their orders face to face? Aust post emailed me that they have picked up my orders from his place. Estimated delivery sometime in about 3-5 days. Will update the rest of you who might be waiting to hear from him

      • Arrived today. Will update on my review

  • I bought 2 computers to be shipped interstate. One for my high end golf sim and one for my teenage nephew. Obsidian prices were approx. half the price what the golf sim company quoted me. I spoke over the phone about my needs and Obsidian gave me a good explanation of what I required for a superior gaming experience.

My advice to him would be increase your prices and pass on the transaction cost to your interstate buyers rather than request PayID. People will be happy for peace of mind for these purchases. You can still offer a discount for local customers paying cash.

I agreed to the PayID request but this created a bit of anxiety when the lead time quoted was 7-10 days (especially when I didn’t want to disappoint my nephew if anything happened). There was a minor delay as you received a high number of orders. But it all worked out in the end.

I guess the saying is true, customers want “high quality, low cost and fast… choose 2”. In this case, the price was phenomenal, build and shipping were very professional. I wish Lokraj all the best with his future endeavours, I won’t be surprised if he builds the next unicorn company with his work ethic at a formative stage in his life. I would be happy to continue to support his business.

I posted pictures of his build on his company’s google page
