Everyone looking for one is in hysteria and their judgement may put them at risk of making wrong decision and relationship breakdown. Employers have reported there are many rare and new cases of ozbargain addicts glued to their computers and loss sleep, they are growing tired from constantly hitting the refresh button and or scanning for one last hope on google search. These activities have resulted in more than usual sick leaves.

HP still offers that 1 year warranty btw, its not the end of the world for them :D
if you want it fixed, im sure they'll fix it or give you a full refund if they cant/wont. it still has warranty and will be honoured.
I'd contact HP for info (perhaps without identifying yourself): can they guarantee a replacement model?
I think they are likely to want to refund you asap to minimise effort for them - given they no longer have any service or quality reputation to maintain vis a vis this discontinued device.
So if they only want to give refund you may do better to seek full refund after 11.5months of mono-aural usage…!
P.S. Does sound work on both channels on earphones? If not slim chance it could be software issue that a reinstall might help.

Better than the optus zte that im on now but this has 3g one big plus which im using. its faster bigger better looking best 148 ive spent in awhile . - Open it with some pliers and take out the CPU
- Get an A4 processor (A flux capacitor will also do fine)
- Insert the processor or capacitor into the slot
- Put some adhesive on top and assemble it back together
Should do fine if you manage to do that. If you think that's too much work, I just get a magnet and swipe it against the screen, thats how I installed iOS on my Galaxy.

The two HN stores I visited yesterday had not received any accessories at all so had none to sell, and I phoned the remaining stores this morning and was told - 'Touchpad discontinued, therefore not receiving any accessories now'.

Enough is enough, at least for them. They are a bunch of loosers decidedly, but not dumb I reckon.

Don't know how authoritative gsmarena's specs are but they are defining identical case size, processor, features, and OS. All that is added is the GSM & HSPA+, GPS and digital compass (with no weight gain!) No speed specs for HSPA though. 850 band would have made Telstra happy and would have been a hot device if it could deliver NextG HSPA+ 42Mbps or even 21Mbps.
Edit: Google search reveals 4G model was intended to be US only launch "this summer" and probably exclusively via HP's partner AT%T - although "Amazon had begun taking pre-orders" before the line was discontinued. Also states faster processor 1.5GHz with 32GB.

Not sure if anything like this has been mentioned here, but apparently there are ways to make the Touchpad run faster. One way being very simple. See the article on Gizmodo:
