Its a great deal for $98. No way it could compete at $499-599. Lack of apps and a slow laggy interface. Honeycomb on my android tablet is way better. Only bought the touchpad so the gf can check facebook etc.
All the apps on hp appstorec are free??? Theres not even that much apps though.. This thing is hard to use n lags! WOnder y it got discontinued! Hopes android is ported soon..
With the Palm Pre 2, you can only see paid apps if the phone was activated in the US or a select few other countries. If it is activated elsewhere, you will only see free apps. Maybe it's (stupidly) the same.
My testing:
If you reset (full wipe), select US, create US webOS account, you will be able to see Paid US apps….but you still need a US CC to buy :(

I managed to pick up a 32 GB one. After playing around with it for a bit, I have to say that I'm pretty impressed and surprised that HP abandoned it so quickly. The UI is pretty neat and feels like a hybrid between a desktop/tablet OS, although it does need a bit of polish. In some ways I find it to be superior than the iPad and Android devices. HP had something going here but rushed it to market when it wasn't ready to take on Apple, Android and the like.
My thoughts exactly. I am a user of first gen ipad and android phone. Webos is pretty impressive; especially multitasking I think is superior than IOS and android. They only real downside is the lack of apps.
maybe its the marketing gimmick.

PSP3 and xbox 360 were sold below costs. i might think that HP will do the same, selling them at incredible cheap prices and will earn money back through apps??it is unethical, webOS is still in development and they are very excited after these past few days LOL
the hardware is superior, they know they can't compete with andro and ios, they should change to plan b by adopting andro then it become popular like samsung, but they just abandoned the ship. or may be they afraid if apple will launch another legal action against them.

What's to "lol" about? I have an Ipad 2, Galay Tab 10.1 and Touchpad and have owned an iPad 1 and a Transformer. I can tell you apps aside I would prefer the Touchpad over a Transformer, so far WebOS is far less buggy than Honeycomb.
rondmc: Are you sure? I own 2 Android devices, one 3.1 and one 3.2, and they are FAR superior to webOS.
The Touchpad is a steal at $98 sure, but try multi-tasking more than 5 apps, having more than 10 browser windows, and flicking between them all. Its a slow laggy experience on WebOS in comparison.It's a bargain and a great deal for a decent product, but don't ahead of yourself and preech it is superior to iOS and Android :)

Been refreshing the HP site since I missed out earlier - it was showing $499 but you could not add to cart. Tried ringing but gave up after 1/2 hr and took the option to leave a message and they would call me back - message bank was full. No other options and cut off.

I called up as soon as I heard about it and reserved 2. I Then made a 2.5 hour round trip to pick them up, very glad I called, by the time I got there the only ones left were the ones I'd reserved.

Don't support the scalpers! btw I already have one so no, I'm not bitter about missing out would rather someone who actually wants to use one get it then see ppl make profits especially on OZBargain, I don't think this will go down well.
