Shouldn't this be a targeted deal?

    • Yeah that seems correct.

    • +2

Mod just got back, not targeted cos you can become an RFS member if you wanted to to get the deal.

Targeted is mainly for deals where you can't do anything to attain it.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:targeted_offer

      • Ahh that makes sense… I wonder how many ozbargainers are gonna sign up to the RFS to get this deal like we all do for credit card welcome points!? hahah

      • how long does it take to become a RFS member after applying?

        • +2

a fair while. not as easy as creating an email and password. takes roughly a few weeks for it to become active

        • +2

During times of emergencies like right now. They are probably not taking on new applications.

          • -1

@richadam: They should if they were smart. Bigger applicant pool to choose from to get the best people.

            • @Charity: Resources are diverted towards fighting fires and managing logistics. Now is not a good time, as they'd be unable to onboard and extensively train new applicants.

        • Can take more than a year. Depends on the local brigade's intake times and amount of people they need.
There's a number of requirements as well, like living close enough, having a drivers licence/car to get to the station, enough free time etc. Definitely not for just anyone who can join and is ready to wait a few weeks.

I dislike these (promotional) activities from organisations - seems like aiming to benefit from the fires - just donate to the cause or make it free for the emergency services crews all the time.

      Offer valid until 30/06/2020
      Plenty of time.
Surely they can’t offer it forever.

This offer is also a great way to get the RFS members and their families mind off such troubled times and just enjoy day with their families . Plus there’s nothing to say that they have not donated.

Also… better than that burrito deal valid for just one day

    • +8

Maybe they have made donations already and this is just another way to directly benefit the firies and their families with a small bit of relief from the hectic situation at the moment.

    • +1

There is virtually nothing different between free for RFS/bushfire promotional activities and normal promo activities. Discount the goodwill of giving freebies to firies and you're still left with company advertising, you just have to learn to live with it

    • +1

Does seem less advertisy if you simply contact the emergency services and make the offer directly. All thats missing then is the advertisement.

    [BF, VIC] Free Entry

    What's BF?

    • +1

      Bushfires?

Looks like a few deals have used it…

      From a mod:

Deal title is tagged [BF] which is a tag for all deals related to Bushfire Victims/Volunteers etc.

There's also an event page for these deals

  • +8

I cannot even consider how low you would have to stoop to join the RFS in the hope of taking advantage of this offer.

  • Hi Mod,

    I didn't mark the deal as VIC because the offer applies in Sydney and Queensland as well;

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast, WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo, Madame Tussauds Sydney, Sydney Tower Eye, Illiwarra Fly Treetop Adventures.

    • +1

Then edit NSW, QLD into the title 😉

  • +1

Don't forget the T&Cs of needing to take a kid in with you… (For LEGO)

    • they ruin all the fun

  • wouldn't the fire fighters be too busy fighting fires to attend these locations?

    • +1

      Valid till 30/06/2020.

        • +14

They get rest days in between deployments you peanut.

        • If fire is still raging in Vic and NSW mid winter?…

  • -2

They ain't got time to visit these places.
    They're battling bushfires.

    • It'd be good to take their families to after the fires. Considering they missed out a lot of family time over the school holidays.

  • I'd imagine this would include ESTA employees?

  • Would this also apply to MFB admin employees?

    • -1

Do you think that's within the spirit of the offer?
