I honestly liked his other older films. I didn't like the last 2 Shaolin Soccer or kung fu hustle. I felt there was too much reliance on using CGI effects rather making a funny joke or scene. Where in older films practial effects didn't look so cringe.

        example:
        From Beijing with Love.
Ling Ling Chat is shown a new weapon from Q branch and it's a solar powered torch.
When someone tried to kill him with his backwards/forwards firing gun.
Or when he being operated on to remove a bullet, without anesthetic. he ask for an adult movie.

        • Nothing beats the God of Gambler/All for the winner series

        • one of his best work

Rewatched it on SBS on the weekend.

This scene (plus the song) has been living rent free since then: https://youtu.be/IL3uQNTwvzQ?si=H0jiZnhYfv8oRnmQ

Free ads to watch (between clips of shaolin soccer) @ SBS on demand

  • Would a non football/ martial arts fan still enjoy it? (I avoided correcting my mistake as it was too funny)

    • +2

It depends on your sense of humour, but I think so. It's not a serious soccer nor martial arts movie at all. If you do end up enjoying it, then I also recommend Kung Fu Hustle which is a spiritual sequel, of sorts.

  • I remember when this was at the movies- how times change

  • This is one of those movies you have to pass down to the next generation and show them how awesome it was

  • Can't watch this film without the complimentary YouTube classic "shaolin soccer with vanilla ice and eminem" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9RyGGhrhpg

  • Did someone ever find a way to download from SBS on demand?

  • Been trying to find this again to watch for a while; thanks OP! The stream has begun
