Up to 50% Cashback on SQ & Delta Codeshare with Virgin Australia (1 Intl 1 Domestic Per Year) @ AIA Vitality

80

Full Credit to goatcorn and lawyerz for introducing AIA vitality.

I am creating a new post to introduce the new addition to AIA vitality's offering. I personally think this is a massive deal that makes AIA Vitality a lot more attractive than ever, but it really comes down to who you usually fly with.

Reminder for ALL Existing AIA Vitality members

  • After April 2020, 50% cashback will be limited to 1 International and 1 Domestic destination per year
  • Between now until April 2020, we are entitled to 2x International tickets on Virgin Australia
  • if you have unused Virgin Australia discount in current policy year, Remember to Redeem Them on 2 International Destinations before April 2020.
  • If you book this week, it will stack very well with the current Double Status credit promotion

What is the benefit?
AIA Vitality members can receive up to 50% cashback on the base fare of eligible domestic and international flights (one way or return) operated by Virgin Australia, Singapore Airlines as well as Delta flights to/from Los Angeles. Cashback is valid on eligible economy and premium economy flights that originate from an airport in Australia. It is NOT valid for any multicity or around the world bookings.

Some examples of Recent flight searches

  • MEL-TOKYO return during Easter Period for $650 (Singapore Airlines operated)
  • MEL-KUALA LUMPUR in Apr2020 (non-Easter period) for $510 (Singapore Airlines operated)
  • MEL-PARIS return in Aug2020 for $820 (Singapore Airlines operated)
  • MEL-ORLANDO return in Aug2020 for $850 (Delta/Virgin Australia operated)

Some T&C

  • Only 1 International destination and 1 domestic destination per year
  • To qualify for 50% off, you will need to hit AIA Vitality points of 30,000 (which is simple, pm if you need help)
  • Up to 50% cashback applies to Base Fare only (effective discount off total fare will be 40%+)
  • You need to book through AIA Vitality website, subject to availability. Discount works with any Economy fare VA, as long as there is a "AIA Vitality" tag next to the ticket.
  • More T&C included in the Flight Benefit PDF document

A reminder for ALL Existing AIA Vitality members:
    - After April 2020, the Upto 50% Off Virgin Australia flights will be limited to 1 International and 1 Domestic destination per year
    - I have confirmed with AIA Vitality that we are entitled to 2x International tickets on Virgin Australia, between now until April 2020
    - Hence if you still have unused Virgin Australia discount for this current policy year, Remember to Use Them on 2 International Destinations before April 2020.
    - If you book this week, it will stack very well with the current Double Status credit promotion

    • The double SC promo states that it can't stack with any other promo though. Have you done it before and it worked?

      • +1

This is a cashback paid by AIA Vitality. All flights with VA will earn you the SC as stated in the fare conditions.

DSC promo, owned by VA, is subject to your eligibility in your velocity account, as long as you activated the DSC offer in velocity, any eligible status credit you earn will be doubled in your velocity account

My understanding is they are separate

Have you got a link to the actual website? Especially join Fees, etc?

    • Edited on the Cashback instead of 50% off

      The link is just aiavitality.com.au

The minimum premium to join AIA Vitality is $300 annual life insurance premium (which can be done by redirecting your life insurance in your Super account to AIA, with minimal out of pocket costs)

Another alternative is to purchase MyOwn health insurance by AIA

      • Is this getting life insurance via AIA through your financial advisor?

Would getting income protection cheaper than getting life insurance? or vice versa (on average)

        • Yes the first option is. I am currently using a financial advisor who charges no fee and he earns commission directly from AIA

IP in general is more expensive depending on the level of income you want to protect. Unless you are after specific protection, my take is always start with changing existing life insurance provider in super because then you are not purchasing extra insurance just for Vitality..

I found AIA to be not great value anymore and the new restrictions on 1 x international flight are another poor restriction . If you need health insurance anyways then yeh it’s probably worth it but I worked out for myself that even with a cheap life insurance (around $400 a year) it didn’t really pay it off.

The flights can usually be found cheaper, the woolies gift cards aren’t super helpful since I shop at Aldi anyways. I tried doing the anytime fitness discount which worked but I didn’t end up going enough to get the cashback (yeh I know that’s on me)

AIA used to be worth it (qantas flight discounts, jb hifi shopping vouchers), it was a no brainer but these days you’ll have to do the math and properly work out if it’s worth it for you.

To me, the woolworth milestone vouchers and weekly $5 vouchers have been paying my insurance premium (~$900 gift cards vs $420 premium for me)

I agree the flight benefit hasn't been much of value since AIA moved from Qantas to VA. But with the recent announcement to include VA Partner airlines it seems to be slightly better again (for those who likes to fly with SQ..)

      • I canceled my membership soon after they swapped to virgin. I can’t remenber the exact details but I think you could only claim the discount and a high-ish fare level even if sale seats were available. So it was 50% off higher fare only and equates to only like 20% off sale fare.

        • I can confirm it works with my recent booking on VA website for a MEL-KUL Getaway Fare, operated by SQ and Silk

I think AIA now makes it better value for VA flight redemption, with a cost of only 1 international destination per year. I agree that Full 50% cashback on Qantas was way better value last time..

    I agree with chillybags.

It has been a great program in the past.

The change from Qantas to Virgin Australia and the "enhancements" made earlier this year forcing RACQ/RAC members living outide of Qld/WA to take out higher premium policies to access AIA Vitality moved it from a great to a good program. With this latest "enhancement" it becomes more marginal. Note the shopping rewards you can earn on hitting milestones is also reducing from $650 to $500, so if you hit Platinum (which is not that hard) the rewards are less.

The Virgin Active discounted gym membership is still good, and means that I'l probably continue, but it is becoming harder to justify.

    • My family and I were disappointed with the 'enchancements'.

Small good news is at least before April 2020.. You can book 2x International flights on SQ and Delta operated flights. After April 2020 we are down to 1 international

  • My AiA Vitality through REST Super is ending in APR 2020. Can anyone please help with suggestions on the most cost effective way to retain my membership? Thanks in advance!

Any tips on the easiest/fastest way of getting to platinum on AIA?

    • +4

      @recession

      • Join a gym and go regularly (100 points/visit).
      • Get a fitbit/watch that counts steps (50 points for 7,500 steps/day; 100 points for 12,500 steps/day.) Also 10 points for a decent nights sleep (up to 2,000 points/year for going to bed early).
      • Do the Health Check - 6,000 points.
      • Log food (I do it via fitbit) for 1 week each quarter (1,200 points/quarter).
      • Do the self-surveys eg nutrition, skin check, mental health etc (various points).

There are others, but the above will get you to 30,000 points and Platinum.

Aim to hit 35,000 so you max out the shopping rewards that you can earn ($650, soon to be $500/year).

      • be healthy and win points? what? :O

  • So you have to be platinum in AIA to earn up to 50% off VA & SQ flights?

    • Yes that's right

  • So for a potentially new member who would like to take advantage of this promo and this week's VA DSC, would it be possible for me to achieve all of the following within this week?

    1. Join membership this week
    2. Attain Platinum to access up to 50% off VA flights
    3. Use the 50% off VA flights to purchase flight by end of week for DSC

Would appreciate some help to see if this process is possible :) thanks

    • @Serathis

You can't make Platinum in a week.

I smash it (particularly with v frequent gym attendance), and it takes me a few months.

The 100 points cap per day for a gym visit and/or walking 12,500 steps prevents manipulation.

The best you could do in a week is make Silver, with points earned for activities (if you were motivated) like this:

      1000 skin self-check
      6000 health test
      50 sleep
      500 nutrition survey
      750 mental health survey
      1200 nutrition tracking
      500 gym visits
      1000 dentist visit
      1000 optometrist visit
      1000 flu shot
      1000 non- smokers declarion
      1000 health survey

      TOTAL: 15,000 points

      • Can I confirm you only gain access to the 50% cashback for VA if you're Platinum?

        • +1

Yes that's right. Only if you're platinum. My quickest record to platinum is 5.5 months from sign up.
Looking at historical pattern it looks like VA DSC promo may happen again sometime next year

There is a bit of costs and effort involved to get to platinum, which can deter a lot of people. But for those who get through it, it will be worthwhile

  • Related but different note, if you wanted to transfer from the REST super AIA Vitality membership to a full membership (ie. Through RACWA) do you keep your points or start again?

    • Yes, you do. It takes a couple of weeks extra for AIA to process it, but you keep your current status. As for shopping rewards voucher, you will get the next one as you hit next milestone, I.e. If you have 29,000 points whilst you transferred from REST to full AIA Vitality you have get the $150 voucher as you hit 30,000.

  • Also on a related but different note, does this apply to AIA Vitality memberships via REST super?

    • No unfortunately.
