Just port out for a month, then you can use it to port back in.

      Then the answer becomes YES.

  • No, you can't

  • +1

How do I use this if I'm on Telstra? I was told that they need to send me a special blank SIM.

    • -2

      A SIM is included.

      • +3

Telstra customers MUST use a blank SIM sent to them by Boost Mobile when 'porting', because technically they aren't porting. Boost uses the same billing system as Telstra, so you aren't actually porting at all. It's just moving to a different Telstra plan which is flagged as a Boost prepaid service.

        • I am able to port from Telechoice (Telstra reseller as well) to Boost in 30mins.

    • +2

Yes, you need to ring Boost to get them to send you the blank SIM.

Also, if you're a Post-paid Telstra customer, you'll need to ring Telstra to transfer your service from post-paid to pre-paid before the switch can be made.

      • How long does it take to be considered no longer a Telstra customer if I decide to port to say something like Voda for a while before using this offer and going to Boost?

        • Yeah, that's definitely an option which I've seen done before.

It would be as soon as your number is ported over to Vodafone.

        • +1

If your number is not on their network tgen you're no longer a customer. So in theory you can be off to voda for 15 mins and back to Telstra again. But the new rule regarding porting means in take a little longer

        • +1

Also porting from Telstra using the blank sim is actually better option at the moment considering the recent porting saga with boost. You only have to wait for the sim to arrive which only takes 2 days max, once you got the aim and ring them, it literally takes moment, occur even before you hang up (if the number involved is not used to call boost to initiate the process). There're a few porting from optus/voda taking over a week.

      • Is this confirmed that you need to change from Telstra post-paid to pre-paid? Won't this cost extra, considering you have to pay for Telstra pre-paid?

        • +1

No, your number will just be transferred to a prepaid account with zero credit. This means once the transfer is made on your number, you probably won't be able to call out until you call Boost to port your number over. So the most ideal way to do it is…

          • Ring Boost and get them to send the blank SIM (they'll tell you to ring Telstra to transfer your postpaid account to prepaid)
          • Wait for blank SIM to arrive
          • Ring Telstra the day you receive the blank SIM and ask them to transfer the number to a prepaid account. They say this may take up to 48 hours, in practice it took about 6 hours.
          • Wait until your phone loses data/phone service (i.e. it's been transferred to a prepaid account)
          • Ring Boost to transfer the number immediately over to Boost. This should take less than 10 minutes to update.
  • expiry dates for the sim? as in when do we need to activate by?

    • Sep 2021

      • Doesn't say on the eBay page. Where can I get confirmation that I have about 2 years to activate my 1 year plan?

        • Every single pack recently is September 2021. It’s all the same new stock that everyone is selling.

        • Bought from this seller less than a week ago (this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/487739 they sold out on their website but were still selling on eBay) and I can confirm my sim expires sep 2021.

      • So can I buy it now and activate it next year?

  • thanks, bought one.

  • I want to use this as a backup internet when nbn is down. What's the best way to do this? I should buy a USB dongle and plug it to my router/modem? Any recommendation on the USB dongle?

    • I should buy a USB dongle and plug it to my router/modem?

Only if your modem supports it…

    • Your modem would need to support LTE via USB, and MOST will not.

      • All Asus modem/routers support mobile usb tethering. I have been using mobile broadband as my primary internet connection since 2016. Tested on Asus AC68, AC52,AC56, AC58, AC3200

        • Which modem/router has worked the best for you ?

  • Can anyone recommend a sim that has travel package included along with international minutes.

    • +2

This Boost plan comes with international roaming as default for voice and SMS. But you will need to buy $5 or $15 add ons in order to make calls and texts. Receiving texts is free. Data roaming is not supported.

      • am I still able to buy data add-on or is it not an option at all?

        • From my reading on their website, no data roaming or MMS at all whilst overseas.

  • My plan with Optus is coming to an end to December. Can I get this and still use my current number? Is it difficult to move services? Lastly, is this a good deal?

    • +1

Yes you can use it. I ported my number from Optus to Boost today and it took less than an hour.

Good deal or not depends on how you use your data.. If you think you would use less than ~5-6 GB data every month, then it is a good deal. IF you need more data, then probably not for you.

      • What are the other options if I need more data?

        • +1

          $300 pack

      • Wow is very fast for the porting number to boost. Had bad experienced with porting last time. Port from catch to kogan, took 2 days after make few times called the customer service :(

        • Lucky you. I've been waiting for 2 weeks from Woolworths (Telstra reseller) to Boost.Phoned up and they put me through to porting which rang out after 1hr 20min then rang back and they cancelled and reactivated the sim. Still waiting a week on.

        • "evo7" Thanks for your feedback. I also had a week delay, with my full service cut both ways for 5-6 days. Been asking here for other Catch problems, but people slow to get back.

    • Check previous posts of the same deal for more informations.

    • +1

I was with Virgin at the start of the year. I had my phone number switched in like 30min.
It might be different with Optus but it can be done.

      Is this a good deal ? I mean 135$ for 80GB for a year. It's like 11.25$/month for 6.7GB/month.
I set up mobile data limit on my phone and I'm good.
If 6Gb is not enough, then that's not a good one to grab.

  • I have telstra so I ordered a special sim to transfer to boost. I haven't yet recharged or transferred over yet. Can I buy this package, transfer over the number and credit or no?

  • +1

Is there a way to add extra data to this?

    • I wanna know this as well. Hope someone can answer.

    • +2

Either buy the 150gb SIM, or just buy a recharge once you have used the 80GB.

      https://boost.com.au/shop/200-prepaid/

      • You mean buy the 150gb Re-Charge ( if your already on Boost, no need to get the $2 sim ).

  • does Boost support iphone eSims?
and if i buy now, can i activate in Jan 2021? thats when my contract expires.

    • +2

No e-sim support from Boost AFAIK.
Only carriers with e-sim support are Voda, Optus and Telstra (hit and miss). None of the MVNOs are supporting e-sims yet.

  • +2

Current porting mess to/from Telstra/Boost is something to be considered before making a decision if you're in a time sensitive situation. Not everyone is affected but there's quite a few who are stuck between ports. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3rp0rl83

I started my port from Optus pre-paid to Boost on Tuesday, received verification text message from Telstra to initiate port within 5mins. Then another text from a random mobile number with a 4 digit verification code, then another text from Boost 2 hours later welcoming me with giving a 'new' mobile number (I am porting, remember?).
Then 12 hours later a welcome e-mail from Boost saying my port is underway and should be done on 4-24 business hours. However my Optus sim is still working, Boost sim is not.

    YMMV.

Previous port worked within 30mins when I transferred my partner's service from amaysim to boost couple of months ago during Coles offer.

Good deal though, so a + from me.

    • Mine took 5 days to port so was left. Port in advance

    • +1

I think the transfer times are pretty random plus also depend on the time of day you initiate it. My wife and I both ported from one company to another. I did mine first during business hours and it worked within a few minutes. I then ported my wife's number about 15 or so minutes later (though after business hours at this point) and it took 24 hours to transfer.

      • I ported from post paid Telstra to prepaid Amaysim on Monday and it was done in 15 minutes.

  • -2

    The all important question..

SIM NEEDS TO BE ACTIVATED BY (to get deal)..?

  • -1

Boost Mobile is horrible at porting number. They are the worst I have ever experienced.

    • I ported from Aldi Mobile, who is another Telstra reseller and it took less then 1 hr.

  • +1

Would it be a problem to port from Catch Mobile ?

    • Be warned, Catch can make it slow to port out of from my experience, and some others.

  • Can we use the shopback deal with this one?🙂

  • Any tutorial for how to port from Telstra postpay plan? Thanks

  • I forgot to use shopback for the bonus $10 :(

  • I'd like to get one of these, but 80gb in a year isn't enough. Does anyone know how much extra data is?

  • Ended?

  • all solded ????

    • Post already marked as out of stock.

  • We do have stock if you are from Melbourne and come to visit our CBD store.

As beyond our capacity to process, we close door of our shop on Friday just to process the orders.

All orders have been posted, and expect to get to customers hands on Monday to Wednesday (depends on your luck).

We may run small promotions later (18th?) either on ebay or our own website.
