    • What router did you get?

We should make a list of suitable routers for anybody that needs a new one.

      • +2

The RT AC68U is a old but good router highly recommended on whirlpool although the VLAN setting is kinda hidden in the IPTV settings.

      • +1

With absolutely no reasoning, I purchased the Archer C60. For $65, it does the job. Probably lot better router choices out there!

        • Where did you find C60 for $65? Looks like most physical stores are around $80+ and cheapest I found so far is $71.90 from eBay, but I only had a quick look. Hopefully my current modem/router will work as it has vlan tagging.

  • Just got HFC installed this morning. What’s the username and password? I tried the wba address with my portal password, and VLAN as 100 on my R7000, but only Google works, and the portal says authentication error

    • Double check your credentials. I had the same issue and it was because I got one number wrong in the username

      • All working now, just needed some time

  • +1

It's working! Wow what a deal this has been.

NBN guy came around this morning so setup the modem. I have HFC with one of the T-mobile/Asus ac68u hacked router. Getting it setup was a bit of a challenge but got there in the end. Now I'm cruising at a steady 35mbps

    • Contact them for username and password. If they have not emailed you.

      • Meant for post above pls ignore.

  • Looks like I am buying a new router tomorrow. I spent the last 2.5hrs trying the Craftbrewer method to convert my old modem into a WAN router without much luck.

Unless I can find something cheaper the Archer C60 as mentioned above is likely what I’ll get.

    • I went all out and purchased a TL-WR802N for the princely sum of $15 from MSY…

It took no more than 3 minutes to configure the basics and access the internet. Speed test shows ping 9ms and 47/19

      • True OzBargainer.

      • Are you on HFC

        • Yes, I am on HFC.

      • did you have nbn technician coming to set up your arris modem? I also got the set up config from service desk and tried to set up ppoe with the provided username and passowrd with no luck, fiddling around the rt86u to get vlanid 100 no luck too. My address had NBN with superloop before and was just plug the router into the Arris modem, this company should've just leave it as auto dhcp to make life easier.

        • NBN tech installed arris modem on Thursday. I spent probably 6-8hrs messing around with Telnet scripts trying to reconfigure a lan port to a wan port on my “vintage” Billion router.

This TP-Link router was very easy to set and really does take only a few minutes, it’s pretty much just
          WAN Settings
          - Select PPPoE and copy paste the provided credentials
          - Set secondary connection to Dynamic IP
          IPTV settings
          - Select IPTV and set to Australia NBN
          DHCP settings
          - Set to ON

@mapax: Cool. I'm going to get one then

            • @easternculture: Messed up my replies.

Be warned that it is a very basic router with only 2 lan ports.

        • lgacb08 Did you see this post by FeZZa21? I think it’s the same as you’re using?
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/7779947/redir

Also are you starting from a factory reset?

          • @mapax: Yes, tried it tonight with no luck. Guess I have to wait till nbn tech arrives. My arris modem is showing green on 4 led light but no luck

            • @lgacb08: I'm in the same boat as you.

So did they tell you they need to send another NBN tech out?

I had NBN awhile ago but then disconnected it. I thought fibremax should just be able to switch it on in their end without requiring anther technician to come out.

              • @edrift: i got a tech coming this weekend, will update accordingly

                • @lgacb08: tech didn't show up on Saturday which was disappointing, I posted another service request and got issued 2nd login, tried that on both router and could get WAN IP address but still no internet access. After going back and forth with them, turn VLAN on and off and managed to get connected through the ASUS rt-86u by turning off dual WAN settings.

Got it all working fine today, but overlooked that TPG needs 30 days notice of termination of ADSL

So will be paying for ADSL until start of November, if Fibremax ends at the end of November, less than 2 months rather than the 3 months advertised, I’m only getting one month free unfortunately

    • Some haven't even been connected yet so count yourself lucky mate.

  • HFC here.

nbn technicians connected the arris modem and connected the apartment to the building's communication box, but left arris modem's "UPSTREAM" light is blinking. They said it will be fixed remotely by the network guys in 48 hrs but no luck so far after said time passed.

Any advice what I should do?

    • If you don't have all 4 light solid green then no luck, mine even with 4 led solid green but no internet. Better chase them up tomorrow morning

    • That's BS, no upstream lock means a signal issue. Can't fix that remotely.

      • Damn.. i suspected he was lying, i didn't sign the release paper he asked me to. Not sure if FibreMax pursue this as this is freebie

  • +2

The FibreMax® HERO service will terminate on 30 November 2019. You will receive our 30 days
termination notice on 1 November 2019.

So i guess it wasn't 3 months free.

    • +1

Just got that too but they still haven't managed to even connect me yet!

    • -1

Same. Interested in their plan offerings.

  • I finally got connected!

They reissued a new username and also removed vlan tagging.

    I am on HFC NBN.

    • They can remove vlan tagging ? Would make it alot easier

      • Yes they did that for me (I didn't ask them to add I had already setup vlan tagging, but noticed their revised instructions omitted vlan tagging).

        • +1

yep same for me (removed). didn't realise so spent hours trying to get it working then tried without vlan settings and tada!

          • @leeroys_dad: Logged in a request to remove VLAN tagging. They will issue me with new credentials.

I'm impressed how fast the technical support is especially on the weekend.

I'm actually considering joining them if the plans are attractive

  • service is struggling tonite , only 10 Mbps on my FTTP

    • HFC and using WiFi I just got 18Mbps.

      • yup , its free so cant complain , moved to SL and gettn full speeds now

        • -1

Lol, the slow down was probably happening to 90% of every nbn user in the country regardless of the reseller.

          • +1

@mapax: negative , thats not correct , depends upon ur RSP and their bandwidth provisioning , I never had any slow downs on Telstra/ABB

  • 8mb down, 19mb up on hfc?

    • 34 down 16 up for me.
      HFC

International links for FibreMax seem to be bad. Aussie speedtests hit around 40-45Mbps.

Tested around 7PM AEDT Sunday so I guess peak time.
Here is Munich Germany (Contabo) speedtest : https://www.speedtest.net/result/8670066229.png
And here is the same speedtest but going via an Aussie VPN: https://www.speedtest.net/result/8670062848.png

Second test is utilizing the VPN hosts international uplink instead of FibreMax's.

    For comparison
    Here is Foxtel Broadband Melbourne

  • Just got activated for round 2,

got my pppoe settings but doesn't seem to be active yet.

    • Vlan tag needs to be set to 100

      • Only if they specifically say so.
Newer accounts don't need vlan tagging from my experience.

  • finally get connected, apparently their technical support system needs more refining, nearly a month to get connected is just horrendous if it's not for free. They gave me a second login and couldn't get it connected on both my asus RT86 and the dd-wrt one. After fiddling another day I turned off dual wan in the asus and it just worked. And no vlan needed. I think they should just make it simple like Superloop using automatic IP instead of the old school ppoe, it's not dial up time anymore and no one should do those all sort of login and settings nowadays

Just got an invite via SMS, as registered when deal was first posted.

    Free until Dec 31!

Went through most of the signup process, but balked at the end.

Free, until end of year, then 3 months @ $65, then $69.95 on a 24 month contract.

Confirms to me the original offer was just a way to harvest details for direct marketing, to sneakily try to lock people into 24 month contracts.

    No thanks!

No way I’m going to lock myself to an ISP for 2 years, unless there are significantly better sweeteners than this (and an established track record of reliable speeds & service).

    • What a shame. I was looking forward to testing my router's (ERL) ability to combine 2 nbn connections.

    • The thing that turned me off the most was that you have to cancel in writing lol. Sneaky way to lock people in I guess

    • They fixed it now, 3-month contract which is free till end of this year.

  • Just got an invitation text for round 2. However it seems to have an establishment fee now and bank details or credit card details are required.

  • My guess is new PPPoE/VLAN settings indicates they added a 2nd wholesaler.

Not even going to bother with it, will just pay the $50 for AussieBB at my holiday house when I go over Summer.

  • Signed up to AussieBB after this failure last month. Just got a text for this, and was considering it but if you read the cancellation terms now, you have to do it "in writing" or it signs you up to an ongoing plan. I'll pass lol.

  • I got the text too even though I’m already activated

When I go through the sign up process it says location not available :D

  • I registered for v2 program, not connected so far.
Phone service has been responsive so far.

    • +1

sounds like this time around they got your credit card details

    • Did you have to pay a sign up fee and commit to a 24 month contract?

      • No I didn't, called was told no fee

        • What about the 24 month contract?

          • @opposablethumbs: No, they fixed this, just three month contract which is free anyway till the end of the year

            • @resmansg: Thanks.

Called them to double check and they changed it from yesterday, so can confirm what you say above.

Have now signed up - will see how it goes.

              • @opposablethumbs: Signed up 4:40p.m. today, just provisioned about 7:20p.m. on FTTP.

                46.7/18.7Mbps up/down 3ms ping

Not quite as good through my VPN using local node:
                44.8/17.6Mbps up/down 29ms ping

For 2.5 months for free though can't complain.

Will see how it goes at different times of the day and for overseas sites :-).

    • +2

Would actually recommend their service, was on phone for an hour to tell my partner how to setup, speed not as stable as ABB but no complain served the purpose.
Phone waiting time is almost instant, way better than giants.

  • Thanks guys.

Now what is the process to ensure we are not charged?

Had to input credit card number on the second application, in order to process the 'free Oder to 31 December'.

  • using FTTP
    nice speeds,

45/18Mbps with 4 ping on speed tests at 10pm at night.

  • Any free NBN deal that this one is ending November?

  • So they're extending the trial period till end of December (or matches what was being touted in the first place…)

    • +1

Nice if they could spell their own website correctly
