I got an email from FibreMax saying they have scheduled an NBN Tech visit as I am a Service class 33 (NCD Required). Its 2 weeks away though. :(

    • Me too, but mine is "only" 10 days and says something about being a "resched", which kind of sounds like a reschedule but I've never had an appointment before.

I was a little surprised they are working on a Sunday and thought I wouldn't hear anything until tomorrow.

      • Got an email too, not sure why they need to visit considering I'm already on NBN.

  • Anyone has any luck arranging for the transfer to happen at a later date? I just paid for another month with my current isp.

    • Your ISP doesn't do pro-rata refunds?

      • I am with Superloop, could'nt find it in their T&C.

      • Almost none do these days - Aussie, Superloop etc.

  • Just read this on Fibremax FB. Going to see some angry people in this thread. Luckily I re-applied thanks to scalebearer's earlier post as the FB link was not sent out until Sunday morning :)

    ~~

We want to apologise if you have received an incorrect approval text message last week.

A new link was published on our Facebook page to allow everyone an equal opportunity to re-apply for the HERO Program. Since then we are fully subscribed and we are looking at ways to extend this offer to more customers.

  • Has anyone been connected yet that was preactive?

    • I just got an email I've been activated but won't be able to test anything until after work

      • Can you please let us know when you signed on to this offer. I signed on wensday, got my sms saying my application was approved. Nothing after that

        • I signed up Wednesday, got an sms just like you then nothing.

Yesterday I created an account here https://signup.fibremax.com.au/.

          Today I'm activated.

        • I signed up Wednesday still waiting to be activated aswell. I emailed them just to confirm that it was a Transfer as I was with a different isp last month. They replied that they will go ahead and proceed the transfer and cancel the technician appointment so this may be your problem.

        • Yes, it seems like signup process was screwed up. I signed up from the initial page and got the sms. But it seems like the process was moved about .. there were few lucky people who got the offer at the end. I will stick with ABB

  • Activated today. Perth City FTTH. Speed Test 48/18. Quite happy thus far. Thank you :)

    • Nice. Cheers for the reply. :)

  • Anyone churned from Belong FTTN to Fibremax?

  • +1

    @wba.fibremax.com.au
Account used in ppoe along with PW?

    • +1

yes and vlan id set to 100

      • Ok thanks

      • Would this be the same for HFC type nbn?

        • no idea. try googling your HFC router model and "vlan id" then see if there's such a setting.

      • Do you have all the settings for a new fttn connection? I have the user name and password to log in to the portal, which my modem router says did not authenticate. Is it the same username and paid I enter into the router?

        • It's a different username and password.

Fibremax issue you the credentials for the modem

          • @edrift: Aah I see. I now have the nbn connection but no settings nor user credentials.

            • +1

@spy: Same here, never issued the setting or credential, connection has been switched over to them but can't connect at all.

              • @kampua: Frustrating!
Even left a msg through the portal. No luck.

  • +5

Not impressed, got confirmation by text last Wednesday and then nothing at all. Just found out that a 2nd sign up was created without any notification.

  • On FTTP, connection was pretty straight forward and the help desk folks were very good to deal with (needed some config on their end to activate since I've never had NBN before)

Speedtest result during peak hour: https://www.speedtest.net/result/8613871930 & https://www.speedtest.net/result/8613878889

Will report back during a less busy time and compare the results

Overall, I'm one very happy customer!

    • Off peak speed is impressive: https://www.speedtest.net/result/8614370616

      • you mean on peak since it was done at 9:11pm?

        • This one was about 11PM, which I'd say is outside of peak times.

The first 2 were at 7-8PM during peak time.

    • Thats a shitty speed for 50/20 during peak with fttp you must be testing over wifi

      • crap speedtests via wifi is due to having a crap wifi router or maybe they're in a congested POI. my speedtests are always done over wifi (asus rt-ac68u) and they're always max. had a good play with fibremax over the weekend and it was same as being on ABB, so would most likely stick with these guys if their 100/40 prices are good.

        • Yes ac68u 5ghz will give you good speed although some people think testing a ISP provided wifi router with 2.4ghz from 3 rooms away will give accurate speed results

      • I'm pretty happy with it - it's far better than hotspotting my phone.
Yes test was done on Wi-Fi, I'll test with a cable tonight.

So they harvested a bunch of phone numbers, then created a new sign up method without informing any of those that registered initially such that early registrants miss out? Not a good start guys.

    • Ya seems like a data harvesting ploy. Even the rep was saying , if you got the sms then wait till you get an email with activation details. After that rep went offline and has not responded to any comments here, indicating the registration method changer

  • +1

They've cancelled my initial application after taking all my details, and then messaged me saying I had to re-register.

I initially suspected they sent out the message by mistake as my application was already accepted by them, but just came to know that previous applications were trashed.

    What a waste of time!

    • +2

It's almost as if they initially signed up way too many people and needed a way to dump them…

  • Can you help me with configuration?

I live in area with HFC nbn. FibreMax scheduled an installation on 3 October. I suspect that's for Aris modem installation from NBN.

After that does anybody know how I should configure a byo router that is connected to Aris?

I see people mention pppoe, vlan id set to 100 etc, not sure how this applies to HFC type of connection.

    • +1

I'd be interested in knowing this too, but figured routers will be just different enough that I will have to mess around with settings when it's hooked up,

    • +2
      • Thanks. Some ozbargainers above mentioned VLAN ID is 100, hopefully that applies to HFC as well..

  • I am still sitting at pre active. Reached out via FB messenger but no response. Anyone have a contact number?

  • My preactive thing disappeared, maybe I won't be getting free interweb from them afterall. Bugger.

  • I have a Netcomm NF8AC modem and have configured the modem with the supplied config but i can't get it to connect to the internet. When connecting to a web site i get "performing TSL hanshake then nothing! Anyone got any ideas?

    • The issue has been sorted

  • +1

Did anyone with an existing HFC connection end up getting connected?

I already had a HFC connection and modem but still haven't been connected.
They scheduled to send out an NBN technician… Sounds unnecessary

    • +1

they did the same to me, I sent a support ticket on the account portal and a lady called back, said she'll do the transfer and I just ignored the NBN technician visit message, but an hour later I got another email scheduled for another visit 2 days after the initial date, so not sure what's next step.

  • +1

I have been connected now. HFC, BYO. Like a few others above, initially an appointment was booked. I contacted them and let them know all that needed is a transfer.

Speeds seem to vary but overall it is not too bad.

    • +1

What modem are you running on? I also have a HFC connection and looking for a compatible modem

  • +4

Hi guys I need some guidance.

I managed to sign up and my connection is now ready (HFC connection). Issue is that my old Belong modem doesn't support VLAN tagging… I have an old adsl2+ modem (tp link td-w8961n) that's VLAN id doesn't go above 8 (need 100?).

If there is no way to config the two to work any suggestions on a cheap modem that can?

    • I'd be interested in knowing this too.

    • Bought an el-cheapo TP-Link TD-W9970 for this, couldn't get the Belong's 4315 ans 4353 to do the VLAN tagging.

  • Hi guys if anyone experienced this, I am on FTTP and I have used my router for number of retailers without any issue. Fibremax has asked me to change VLAN tagging and I can't find the setting maybe firmware has disabled it or something. DO you reckon I should get new router to change Vlan tagging?

    • what's your router? obviously if you want to use this freebie you need a router that supports vlan tagging. other option is connect directly to the NTD and set the vlan on your ethernet adapter like so: https://imgur.com/qotlkWK

      • which router do you recommend, any leads?

        • +1

can't go wrong with asus rt-ac68u great performance and features

  • Connected can't tell any difference from ABB and fibremax. TBH for the average family/user most ISP will be the same apart from the support which you may never use.

    • 46/19 - 7pm over wifi good speeds.

  • +2

I am using OpenWRT and managed to create an interface for VLAN 100 and the WAN port connected. But I still do not get internet connection. I wonder what could be wrong.

      Wrong username and password.
You need to use the credentials they issue not the portal ones

      • +1

Thanks for alerting me to this. They have never provided those information to me. I will have to wait until Monday to call them.

        • For me what worked is:

username: the one you you get when login into the portal, in "Services". It looks like [email protected].

password: the first one you set for the portal, they send it in the account creation email.

I changed the portal password but for pppoe auth the password stays the same as the first one.

          • @lorikeet: They replied today on Facebook, pop in the username and password and it works. About 38/18 speed.

            • @kampua: Lucky you. I raised my ticket inside the portal (under support) which should be quicker but unfortunately no action.

Seems like social media is the way if one wants support nowadays.

  • +3

Still can't get mine working. It's wasted on me.

    • +1

Yeh the requirement for for VLAN id set to 100 is a pain and means you can only use certain modems/routers and require to change settings. I guess ordering there modem would eliminate this issue although forced onto a sub par modem.

  • First time NBN connection, currently connected but can't access HTTPS at all yet. Can ping, access sites like www.google.com.au, play online games but not HTTPS. Hopefully that gets fixed soon.

    • Wow.. are they spying on these free connections and since they can't spy on https its blocked?

    • Are you sure you use the correct username and password for pppoe?

When I put the wrong password I could access everything but HTTP and HTTPS were behind a proxy telling me to check my credentials.

      • I did have the wrong username but that didn't fix the issue. They said it was a problem with the NBN not listing my connection as provisioned but not sure I totally believe that. It's fixed now so oh well.

Sylon, I don't think so just a simple way to say to the customer that there is an account issue.

My speedtest.net results ping 3ms, 46.6/17 at 6:10pm and no packet delay/loss so far at least in Australian servers which is a change from what I'm used to (Optus).

My only concern is that they do have readable password access so if you use a password on other sites I'd be changing them as a precaution.

Just my experience with FibreMax; had issues in transferring my services from my current provider (AussieBroadband as promo was ending)-(FTTN). After further discussion, I was told that the free trial is until end of November. I have passed on my feedback already that technically it is not 3 FREE months (being misled) and cancelled my request to transfer over to FibreMax.

  • Anyone else still stuck at preactive?

    • Me, however I do have someone supposedly coming around today. Got an email confirming the appointment. Have been in contact with the reps via FB messenger.

Update: Have asked what the meaning of the pre-active is. Rep: "Hi, Just ignore that your service is provisioned and you should try to set up your modem. Did you recieve instructions for your modem setup?"

      • I got details to setup my modem but it doesn't work.

I set the username, password, vlan I'd but it doesn't connect

        • Try resetting modem with vlan id at the start

          • @Stahh: I tried my D-Link modem router and it still won't connect. Just says 'busy' when trying to connect.

I'm using pppoe with vlan 100 and vlan priority 1 and using the username and password supplied.

  • They did not contact me just sent text confirmation. that is not good

    • You’ve probably seen it but they posted this to their website.

      Important Notice

We want to apologise if you have received an incorrect approval text message last week.
A new link was published on our FibreMax Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pg/FibreMaxAus) to allow everyone an equal opportunity to re-apply for the HERO Program. Since then we are fully subscribed.

We appreciate your enthusiasm for assisting us in the testing of our services.

Thanks to all the HEROes that are helping us to test our service. For all those that have missed out, we’re sorry. We are working on an offer for you.

      • No it is not like that! I submitted my request once aoujay51 published it here.
then I received confirmation text same day and till now waiting!
why you try to bold yourself by giving a Negative before trying to investigate more !

        • I don’t know what you’re talking about, I haven’t negged anyone in this thread.

What date did you try to sign up to fibremax?

          • @mapax: It is 18th September

            • +1

@Noki6630: In that case the quote from fibremax likely applies to you. They messed up the registration process and some people had to apply a second time using a different signup link.

              • @mapax: Tnx im gonna waite for a while now

  • Speedtest ping 15ms, 43/16 which is slightly worse than Belong.

  • Speedtest 40/18 but struggles to stream 4K youtube

  • +1

VLAN is unfortunately super important for this service to work, which meant me purchasing a new router. Was due for an upgrade anyway I guess.
Results look OK. Ping: 6ms, 46/18.
