Could anyone kindly reproduce Choice's latest ranking of best automatic coffee machines? It was the Magnifica "S" a few years ago.

Frothing milk is still a manual process on this machine and according to this YT review it mixes air with the steam to increase the amount of bubbles and so it is incapable of making microfoam. Also, I have never seen a steam milk frother taking this long (over 1 minute) to heat the milk and still the reviewer complained the milk froth not being hot enough.

This demo took 1 minute 8 seconds to froth milk to temperature. What kind of rubbish steam is this machine producing?

We got one a year or two back on a Amazon deal $200 plus can't remember right amount it's very rarely used and we got a light coming on and it would not work right,as it was under warranty we took it to a place who fixes brands of all big names and they replaced a part.
Wife has pretty much only made 5 cups of coffee if that since it was fixed, lol it sits around most times not getting used and I tell wife to use it more and are now getting the same light again.
I'm starting to wonder if wife is using it right or what's going on the amount of times it's been used and already been repaired and now having same issue is crazy. I have the right mind to tell Amazon to give us a new machine,I can understand if it was non stop in use but only used now and again with regular faults it's crazy. At the time of buying it from Amazon it was selling double to price but that's not the point it was Amazon who had it on deal and sold out pretty quick but it feels I have been given a dud of a machine. I think we might have 6 months to a year left on warranty these machines should not need fixed so often so soon?

    • These things work better if used frequently imo.

I bought to replace an old model at the same time. 249 - 25 = 224 (sign up bonus) delivered.

Used daily. No problems. Just requires descale each couple of months.

Won't replace the local cafe, but is good 7/10 for daily wake up coffee when used properly.

Milk frothing is an art. Requires attention and understanding. Can produce nice micro, but not by just plonking wand in the jug. Yes it is slow however.

It becomes 8.5/10 when pre ground coffee is used, although this defeats the purpose of the semi auto machine. Keep it in mind though…

Pretty happy with mine and was lucky enough to get it for $227 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/383852

It’s the second Magnifica S I’ve owned.. first one (ESAM 4200) was purchased in 2008 and had no problems with that one. (Cheap and easy to DIY service too.)

The Magnifica S models may not be in the same league as say a Breville dual boiler or a Rancilio Silvia, but it's been my experience that they do deliver a consistently good, no-fuss cup of coffee.

    • This is the one o got from amazon barely use it and already had to get fixed and wife has pretty much done 5 cups since fixed and is same issue as last time.

  • I have one of these and it makes good coffee.

I've had problems with the steam knob being plastic … it broke under warranty and was replaced. Bit of a design flaw IMHO.
Currently investigating an aftermarket part that are metal instead of plastic.

    • Same, we don't use it often.

    • Got a demo in The Good Guys…the knob broke off in the ladies hand!

Lots of refurbs in Delonghi outlet, so something goes wrong with them with an easy fix I'm sure (orings).

Seen a few of these in the Bunnings ewaste bin. Wanted to grab one to see how easy the fix is, Bunnings said no (fair enough) Beenking for one when they go around $200.or if anyone wants to unload a dying one etc send me a pm. Cheers.

  • I have one of these. Used daily for 18 months. Great machine, albeit the milk frother is a little slow. I would recommend at this price.

  • Also got mine from the $227 amazon deal, it's made 6-8 shots a day every day since then and still going strong. Would recommend.

  • Got one of these about a year back for $200something like others in this thread.
We use it about 3 times a day on average, and its great for us (my partner, myself and our housemate)
No real issues that others say it has, but one issue that I have is the grounds sometimes overfill the container before the full grounds container light comes on.
Milk gets hot enough, mouth burningly hot.

Note Im not a coffee connoisseur, but I really like the product and the coffee it produces.

  • I liked the coffee machine but mine just died after 2 years, probably not worth getting repaired.
