100k-150k Qantas FF Points @ Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card, $5K Spend in 90 Days; $49 First Year Fee

3883

Looks like Citi are offering a decent deal on their Signature QFF VISA card again.

This deal offers:

100,000 QFF points with a $5,000 minimum spend in the first 90 days. Reduced annual fee of $49 in the first year; and

50,000 QFF points upon paying the $444 annual fee for the second year (annual fees, particularly of that magnitude, are not to my tastes but each to their own).

Card also provides travel insurance, and two lounge passes p.a. via Priority Pass.

Again, that $444 annual fee in the second year is a whopper. But happily there is no obligation to stick around for the second year, so deliberate thoroughly on how badly you want those additional 50,000 QFF points.

I posit that this deal is superior to the previously posted deal on account of the reduced annual fee in the first year. But perhaps comparable to this earlier deal.

Earn Rates

1.00 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (Major Airlines, Hotels and Restaurants)
0.75 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (Major Supermarkets, Petrol Stations, retailers)
0.50 Qantas Point per $ Domestic Spend (All Other)
1.00 Qantas Point per $ International Spend

With the economy slowing down and abounding speculation of an imminent recession, there's never been a better time to accumulate personal debt. Onwards!

Those who do not have a Qantas Frequent Flyer account can get free membership from one of the free membership deals here.

NOTE: The random referral system is for a different card - Citi Rewards Platinum. Please don't use the referral link if you're applying for the card in this deal, which is the Citi VISA Signature Qantas Credit Card.

  • Tempting. I wonder if I should cancel my existing citibank signature and try round 2.

    • You would no be eligible

  • I applied for the one 4ish months ago and heard nothing for a month. Followed up with a call and they wanted extra details, so I sent them and heard nothing. They still did a $15,000 credit check on my file though. Never heard back.

    • Same here. Applied and never heard anything either way

  • No rental car insurance?

  • Does anybody know how long it takes to remove a Credit Card from your Credit Record after canceling?

I want to cancel another one and apply for this one.

    • I was told there can be a lag of up to 30 days.

  • Applied and was conditionally accepted, seems to be hit and miss

  • Any clues to the acceptance criteria? Is it completely random?

Would someone with a couple of credit cards and mortgage have a similar chance to someone with no credit card, no mortgage and earning 6 figures?

  • +1

5k in 3 months is some coin

    • +4

lol have some babies, then it's like 5k in 3 months is not enough coin.

    • EBay gift cards

  • +3

Citi are the worst bank to deal with. I've had experiences with them refusing to credit points despite me qualifying, claiming I didn't sign up for the offer (I did!). They are crooks.

  • +5

Good cheap points however my dealings with Citibank have all been negative 👎

    • +1

      ditto

  • Do I need to not have had a Citi credit card in the last 12 months?

  • +2

Nice long expiry date to this offer so can see how other people go with their applications before biting the bullet.

  • Applied and got conditionally approved for 37,200 credit card limit…is that normal? I’m really not trying to brag anything I’m just worried that it may reduce my credit Rating

    • +1

What it will do is reduce your capacity to service more credit cards and possibly depending on your financial situation restrict your ability to take out bank loans with it open.

    • +1

It's the outstanding limit that they'll care about. Just reduce it to $15k when you log in to online banking.

    • What’s your income roughly?

    • Apparently that's normal for Citibank. They just conditionally approved me for a crazy $50k :-O

  • +4

Applied on the last 90k deal and never heard back - no rejection or approval or other feedback - they're useless! Got the St George signature 60k bonus deal approved within 24hrs instead.

  • +1

The ANZ card still seems like a better deal if your're going to keep it for 12 months. (has a $375 fee and $100 cash back). $4k spend, 100k points, and a much better QFF earn rate

2 Reward Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to and including $5,000 per statement period

    https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/rewards/black/

    • +3

That is a good deal for that ANZ card. Another plus for the ANZ card is that you don't have to deal with Citibank.

    • +2

This is a ANZ Rewards card and not QFF.
Qantas Point value is higher than ANZ Reward Point.

      • +3

Yes, well spotted. ANZ Frequent Flyer Black is the card with 100k QFF points and $200 cash back after a $4k spend in the first three months. It has an annual fee of $425.

      • +1

        Apologies, thanks for the pickup.

  • Do the expenses of an additional card holders count towards the 5K?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • The link when you click through refers to 'Citi Rewards Signature' with no reference to Qantas.

Also no area to enter QFF Account.

Is this the same for everyone/the correct card?

    • I got this as well! I really hope it's alright because it seems there's no way to know if you're eligible for the QFF points..

  • Holy cow… Who knew applying for a credit card could be so hard. I kind of wish I had been rejected.

Fail #1: Do application online and try submit the supporting documents as part of my final steps. Nope get redirect to a page that says "this is a generic error"
Fail #2: After contacting customer care they say they will email me with a list of what is outstanding. Get an email asking to submit a document but #1 doesnt list what they deem as acceptable proof #2 dont tell me where to submit the document to. Yay lets contact customer care again.

Also realized that im not sure that my Qantas FF number is attached to my application because the page where you submit the documents is the same page where they are for the FF number. Guess I'll contact them again eventually.

    • +1

If headed overseas (particularly stateside), get the companion Diners Club card. Fee free and 1 FF point per dollar, so long as you find a merchant accepting Discover cards.

  • +1

    Good deal. Thanks OP

  • +1

    Approved, thanks OP!

Now to figure out how to bloody spend $5k in 3 months….

This site… "saves" me so much money :| Haha

  • Got declined. May be because I cancelled my Qantas card just 2-3 months back.

  • I still have my St George Signature amplify from November deal last year. Since a few had mentioned that higher risk applicants are more likely to get approved, should I apply with my existing card active or cancel the amplify card then apply for Citi.

    • I rather just cancel the SG card, wait until the CLOSED status is updated on credit file then apply for this one.

Since this promotion is runs till end of Jan/2020, I'll apply around Nov, in time for Xmas/NY spending.

      • How much time it takes for "the CLOSED status is updated"?

Does a decline get you a bad credit record?

      • which site do you check to view the closed status?

  • Sounds like it used to be easier in 2013, when I applied online while overseas and got approved for the Signature card without any request for further documentation.

  • +2

Declined, booh! That's the first card application I've ever had declined too. Well done to those that get approved!

    • sheeeeeeeeeeet.

    • I just received sms that my application has been successful (without providing documents). I have two credit card with $11k credit limit and got approved with this.

      • +2

        (without providing documents)

        Quality banking!

  • Applied for over 24hrs ago, haven't received any communication whatsoever? Did get an error message towards the end, but that was only at the optional stuff, wait or reapply? 🤔

  • +4

Denied. Great credit rating, only one that ever denies.

Hate for Citibank continues. Don't roll the dice unless confident or can take the credit check.

    • I am proud/embarassed to say,

      ive been rejected by ci

      tibank my entire life,
      3-4 times now

I dont take it personally now

  • anyone can confirm government charges are included on the 5k spending? got a big bill coming and would be tough for me to top 5k in 3 mo.

    • username checks out

    • Based on what has been pasted in the comments above it should count. Doesn’t earn you points but counts towards your min spend to get bonus points. Also, based on personal experience with the Qantas Premier card (Citibank) I paid council rates and it counted towards my spend for bonus points although I didn’t get points directly for it.

  • +2

I got a call last night to submit additional documents, if submitted within 24 hours to receive an extra 5000 QFF points

    • +1

      How did you get that?

      • +1

one of their rep called my mobile and asked me to submit additional documentation and make the offer to me over the phone

        • +3

thanks for providing me all your details mate..

  • I get an SMS asking to submit further information. No instructions on how to actually submit the info. My application is 12 digits so I'm unable to login via the site.

Website mentions to check an email for further instructions, but the email didn't help.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise. If they can't get this signup process right then what hope do they have on getting anything right!?

  • I currently have a CITIBANK card, do you think if I cancel that and get approved for this one. will they still give me the points?

  • can someone tell me is the referral link under the post 'citi rewards platinum' the same as the signature card we are talking about here ? Or is this a diff card ?

    • -1

can someone confirm? i am getting the signature card when i click through not the "qantas" one.

      • Avoid. See comments below it’s the wrong card

  • Was conditionally approved, got to the screen to upload the supporting documents, but there was no place to upload anything (I think the form did not load). So just submitted the app anyway…

There always has to be a hiccup, these apps are never smooth!

  • if i cancel my current lifetime fee free citi signature card and apply for this one immediately after, what is the chance of approval?

    • Isn't there a waiting period anyway?

  • +1

Guys avoid!!!!!! I applied through the link and then it went to the Citi rewards signature card. After I applied and got accepted I called to double check and they said I didn’t apply for the Qantas signature card.

Hopefully that makes sense but avoid at all costs

    • I got an email stating "your Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature application has been approved" - how did they word your email?

      • Xx, your Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature application is approved!

        Yep - avoid. never again.

      • The one we got approved is 120k points but the annual fee is around 149 or so. Very different to the Qantas one.

        • I applied through the same link and my approval email had the same description

It definitely asked for my QFF no. during the application though

          Bit confused now

          • @spade16: I would call and double check.. Mine also had the QFF no during the application

            • @Westpac: I just called and confirmed that mine is Qantas. I entered my QFF no during the application.

    • Did you apply via that referral link that's shown above?
I didn't put that link there; it sends you to a completely different card. Mods should remove the referral link.

    • +1

I agree. I called up today to check and it turns out I got approved for the incorrect card as well (the 0% balance transfer for 15 months, 120000 points with $4000 spend in 90 days and a $199 annual fee). I decided to close it, as I don't want that one. There is definitely an error with the website as it is impossible to apply for the Qantas one (the links all send you through to a non qantas card), so until it's fixed, I am going to look elsewhere. Super frustrating as it's a wasted credit check.

      • Update: Ended up calling up again after this and spoke to a different customer service rep who said that I in fact did have the correct card. Subsequently, because I had closed it, she had to escalate it to reopen my card. Since then, every representative I've spoken to has spontaneously, without prompting, mentioned that I will be earning the QFF points so we'll see.

  • +3

I called, but they told me that the Rewards Signature card is the Qantas one. Anyway I haven't received the card yet so I'll wait until that arrives.

    • I called as well and they confirmed the exact same thing as you.

    • let us know how you go please

      • Card arrived. Looks like the right card. $395 annual fee after one year and $49 for Qantas Rewards.

      • Received my card today and had to call them up to "register" for the Qantas rewards program.

Created online account and can see I am now registered.

        • Where on the accounts page do you see that it's registered with your QFF or will it be pretty obvious?

          • @vawiyoci: Rewards Tab should take you straight to the Rewards Home section where you can click on modify details (your QFF details should be there).

            • @applechewz: Hmm Couldn't see it in my online account or on the rewards page (where you can "add" loyalty programs to your card but there isn't an option for Qantas). When I called them up last week they assured me they were able to see my QFF number inside their system linked to my card (contrary to everyone here it seems who had to get it manually added over the phone).
Might just have to give them another call at this point.

              • @vawiyoci: Nevermind found it under the reward miles page under the main account, went too far going to the actual separate signature rewards page through the external link.

    • Just called them up myself and they confirmed there is no visible distinction between the Citi rewards signature and the Citi signature Qantas in the "welcome pack" or on the physical card. If anyone is in doubt, I would suggest giving them a yell to confirm you're on the right one.

  • +2

Agree with previous comments to AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Just finished a call with Citibank for 51 mins.

They said I applied for the Signature and not the Signature Qantas. I told them this is because the website (the link above) is misleading and that although the page says Signature Qantas, when you click to apply it directs you to apply for just the Signature. They said they can’t check I applied through that link since there are other ways to apply for the Signature card. I then proceeded to cancel the card, really hoping I don’t get hit with any random fees that might come my way after being approved.

Doesn’t seem to be a way to apply for the Signature Qantas at the moment so I would avoid Citibank. Not to mention the whole thing took them 3 verifications, multiple people on the phone (and a long time waiting for each one) and system issues. This bank is just far below any other bank in terms of customer service. Absolutely horrendous.

    • +1

but the application on the link above does have a spot for the qantas frequent flyer number on the last page I think it is?
but yeah, citi are terrible to deal with!
we only put up with it for the points haha.

    • +1

Is there a working link for Signature QFF?

    • I applied through the link on few days back and mine also got as "Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature" in the email. If you login into citibank.com.au -> click on rewards at the top bar it should say:

"You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Programme to earn and Redeem Qantas Frequent Flyer points. If you are not a member, please visit www.qantas.com.au to sign up. A joining fee applies."

I've also contacted them to confirm.

      • So maybe if you signup without a QFF number it just puts you on a non-QFF card? Or did you enter a #?

  • I called and they confirmed that the email is just missing the rewards program (the card is the same though) and that I did sign up for the Qantas offer. They are going to call me back to give details of the offer - not sure why

I read the comments on the last time Citibank ran a similar deal and apparently this was an issue then as well, they seem to arbitrarily put people on different offers/cards compared to the one they apply for which is pretty poor

  • Phone call took half an hour with my customer service rep constantly going back and forth getting information from different departments, but they confirmed I did indeed sign up for the Qantas offer, despite my email saying I signed up for the Citibank Rewards Credit Card - Signature. During my online application it did ask for my QFF number. The rep also confirmed the sign up bonuses as advertised. Yet to receive my card however.

    • All written communication (email or postal) will not have anything about Qantas. They will send you the standard letter/card for Signature Reward.

After you activate the card, login and verify if you have enrolled to Qantas FF - your Qantas FF account will be list there.

  • Reading the T&C of this and other credit card companies.

    https://www1.citibank.com.au/signatureqantas at the bottom

Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, refunds, chargebacks, Special Promotions and spend on a Linked Diners Club Card do not contribute to the spend threshold

It feel like the required spend can be anything else then, ie Tax, Bpay etc

    Can anyone confirm?

I'm looking at this, as I usually look at the points T and C which usually does not allow tax and bpay

  • I tried applying for this card and just WOW.

As someone who works in technology this is about the worst form that I've seen.
I mean you choose single marital status and you have to fill in a mandatory field for dependents which goes from 1-9 only.

So i have to have a kid to have this card?

    • +1

I think if you hover over the dependents field, it notes to include yourself (e.g., you are dependent upon yourself). It is pretty silly though

  • +2

My card arrived today and after activating the card I can see that it is qantad rewards card.

    • @hyunjun24 -how did you verify that its a qantas rewards card. When i login, i can see "Citi Rewards Signature Credit Card"

      • rewards signature is qantas.

  • Ah, can't decide if I should take the gamble or not. I was recently declined by AMEX and don't want to have too many enquiries show up. On the other hand, my gut tells me Citibank wants higher risk applicants.
