Yeah they sure have. And I thought they were overvalued when they first listed at ~$65 from $25 IPO - but they just kept going and continued up to $230! Well, they've come back a bit from their peak to ~$160 now, but still. pretty amazing. (and maybe a bit speccy)

  • Does anyone know how to store the Grill'd Relish barcode in Google Pay?

    • +8

Well this doesn't have soy so your criticism isn't needed.

    • +3

Beyond meat is not made of soy

    • +4

      Ignorant comment

  • Not nearly as good as their 8 burgers for donating $20 offer from 2017, or 8 free burgers for having a painted nail in 2016.
    But I'll still bite.

    • Those both happened in October, so there's a decent chance we'll see a similar deal next month.

  • +19

I dont understand the negative commentary about a vegan deal. It reduces animal suffering and the prospects resulting from climate change and yet people are so religiously attached to their taste preference to undermine all of that? Seems so petty.

    • It isn’t a vegan burger though. It has cheese.

    • +17

Every "meat alternative" deal or forum post seems to attract a number of insecure people.
Just enjoy the god damn patty. If you don't want it, move on.

    • +11

Most people are stupid to put it simply. They think by eating a plant based burger you become a vegetarian. It's like anti vaxers, flat earthers, climate change deniers, we will look back at them and laugh.

      • -5

Most people are stupid to put it simply. They think by eating a meat based burger you become a non-vegetarian. It's like anti vaxers, flat earthers, climate change deniers, we will look back at them and laugh.

        • +1

If you think that is an equivalent statement you may wish to look up the definition of vegetarian.

        • +2

By definition you are entirely wrong haha. Nice try though ;-)

      • -1

Most people don't like other people pushing their agenda and attempting to use words in a deceitful way.

I don't comment on other non-meat deals because I don't feel like marketing is deceptive.

    • +1

Unfortunately you yourself have made an error by demeaning and diminishing vegetarians. Its not a vegan burger in any sense, and the conflating must end.

    • -4

I have no issue with it being a vegan product and I don't have any issues with you choosing to eat it. I have issue with Beyond deliberately & deceitfully marketing their product as 'meat'.

The clear lack of knowledge of the nutritional risks of a vegetarian diet are also concerning. Yes it is possible to live a healthy vegetarian diet, but it requires significantly more effort to ensure it is nutritionally balanced.

      • +1

You really have no clue. How much protein do you think you need in a day?

        • As I've explained numerous times, not all proteins are equivalent due to the different amino acids. I could eat a kilo of nuts and be seriously deficient.

Not that I haven't devolved to personal insults or negative votes as a form of censorship.

please point out the deceptive marketing ?
If after reading the advertisment you're tricked into thinking you're buying meat, then you are "beyond" help

    • +4

People sure are stupid and insecure.

  • +15

Came here to read the comments… makes me laugh. Still unsure why people are so offended by vegan / vegetarian burgers. It's funny to read comments and see people get so upset though insert eating popcorn meme 🤣

** EDIT ** There's literally two chicken deals on first and second page of OzBargain and I've not read one comment from a vegetarian dissing it for being chicken…….. just say'n.

    • -3

That is because the chicken is not claiming to be something it is not.

      • +4

Can't see anywhere on this post where beyond burger is claiming to be anything other than beyond burger…… I think you're reading into something that isn't there.

        • -2

The company is called 'Beyond Meat'. If you ask an average person who isn't vegetarian, it could be easily confused with other branded real meat products.

I'd be just as annoyed with a company called 'Beyond Leather' selling artificial leather which is marketed under many names, including "leatherette", "faux leather", "vegan leather", "PU leather" and "pleather". I prefer to buy real leather because of the longevity.

          • +1

I was. Only figured out it's artificial meat from the comments.

  • +5

Trying to get the family eat less meat, this will help. Thanks OP!

    • -5

Good luck with their teeth. It ain't gonna be a bargain at the dentist, that's for sure.

  • -1

Anyone eating these needs to look at the ingredients list (chemical shitstorm). And also work out the carbon footprint involved.

Unless virtue signalling is the most important factor, of course.

    • +3

Chemicals in meat include; Antibiotics, oestrogen and testosterone….. delicious… https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/foo…

    • +8

      Ingredients are:

      Water
      Pea protein isolate
      Expeller-pressed canola oil
      Refined coconut oil
The Beyond Burger also contains 2% or less of:

      Cellulose from bamboo
      Methylcellulose
      Potato starch
      Natural flavour
      Maltodextrin
      Yeast extract
      Salt
      Sunflower oil
      Vegetable glycerin
      Dried yeast
      Gum arabic
      Citrus extract (to protect quality)
      Ascorbic acid (to maintain colour)
      Beet juice extract (for colour)
      Acetic acid
      Succinic acid
      Modified food starch
      Annatto (for colour)

Which of these should we be concerned about, mr.health nut?

      • +2

It sounds like the OP is one of those people who sees an ingredients list and runs away screaming. "Chemicals! OMG!" They don't realise their 100% meat pattie is also made of chemicals (as is everything else, including you and me).

    • ingredients list (chemical shitstorm)

AHAHHA mickeyjuiceman are you a but or something? where are the chemicals. I was actually expecting a couple of somethings on the list but its a really yummy looking list. go eat some steroid injected meat

  • +3

recently had the chipotle beyond burger and it was actually quite good!

    • +1

      had one today. Yummm!!

  • +1

Dunno whats worse Vegans doing protests in the city stopping traffic and public transports
or numbnuts on ozbargains who need to tell us vegan diets are no good or have prissie issues over naming stuff that have no meat or milk etc in it

for me both party should be shot lol

    • +5

Both sides are just ignorant and are pushing their agenda too much.

    • Shot and eaten?

Btw it's neither, the worst are SJWs who go to comedy shows.

    • +5

Definitely the latter. Protesting for what you believe in (as long as it's not grotesque shit like racism or something) is an admirable thing. The way people look down on it if it's not something they believe in and allow the government to whittle away at the right of the populace to protest without so much as a hint of dissent is maddening and disappointing.

  • -3

    yuck

    • +1

Have you actually tried it though?
Some meat eaters here tried it last time and enjoyed it.

  • +1

These burgers are better than the originals ie Beyond Simply Grill'd > Simply Grill'd
    They are SO GOOD!

  • +1

Pretty sure a 'burger' without meat is a salad roll?

    • +6

burgers are usually prefixed to describe it e.g. beef burger, chicken burger, veggie burger.

it's the patty in a bun that's consistent across burgers, not what the patty is made out of

      • The original burger is made of beef, the descriptor is unnecessary in that case. Not in all other cases. This IS false advertising.

        • -1

It's prefixed with beyond so you know it's a beyond patty, what's so confusing about that? The menu has the simply grilld described as having a beef patty and the beyond simply grilld as having a plant-based patty. Is it really that hard to understand?

          • +1

@greater mimic: I thought Beyond was a brand or product name… Didn't occur to me *beyond" meant fake.

  • +6

    So much sooking lol

    • +2

I’ve honestly never seen as many fragile people in one place before than the comments section of a meat substitute promotion. “iT’s FaLsE aDveRtiSiNg”.

Later that day, to avoid being hypocritical, they campaigned to change the term “hotdog” into “lukewarm processed gristle and offcuts from various different animals”.

  • Is this deal only on the vegan burger or any burgers?

    • +1

      only Beyond burgers, specifically.
they have other vegan burgers that aren't imitation-meat based.

    • +1

Burgers with Beyond patty - there's a few choices, some vegan, some not (because they use regular cheese/mayo)

      https://www.grilld.com.au/menu#beyondBurgers

  • No meat = no deal. An artificial patty does not a burger make…

  • +2

gotta be worth a try at that price

  • Dine in only

    Sucks.
We'll have to figure out how to take the second one home.
    Bring a container?

  • -2

Seems like some smart people have found a way to milk money from stupid vegans, and actually convince them they are doing something good for the environment.

  • -3

Wait… these ain't real burgers?? I've been conned, gimme my vote back!

  • +8

This thread is pathetic. If you aren't interested in the burger, then don't buy one. You aren't entitled to deals.

    • -6

We're entitled to product transparency and honest advertising. A chicken burger is not a burger. Neither is a "plant-based" one.

      https://youtu.be/qVmkxBua970

  • -8

Yeah, no thanks. I'll take my burger with meat, please.

    • +2

Nobody cares, your comment is literally useless

      • -4

Thanks for stopping by. I'm glad you've added to the conversation.

        • I don't like mushrooms

    • C'mon man, smug vocal vegans annoy me as well, but this deal isn't harming us is it?
We don't have to be so divided about everything do we?
Can't people can choose to (not) order whatever they want?

      • It's false advertising. One can't sell kangaroo patties for burgers without explicitly stating they're kangaroo burgers. Same with "plant-based".

        • +1

They're not trying to trick us, they're actively trying to show how great they are for offering a vegan burger.

  • Just got it. One of the smallest burgers for their price I ever had. But I do support promoting vegan burgers

    • +1

Is it smaller than the meat counterpart?

  • yeah… I don't know how many people actually tried being vegetarian rather than relying on stats or papers. Has some benefits, but also downsides. Same with meat when you look into it. Plus this is the product of a 15 billion dollar company. I'm interested to see if the burgers live up to the hype.

  • Is this for anyone, or do we have to have the relish app?
Also, would this burger reheat okay for dinner?
Edit: Never mind, just saw that it's dine-in (no deal for me)

  • +2

I prefer these Beyond patties to the cow burger!
Somehow they get the char grill flavour (like a whopper) and the meat texture.
Pretty sure it's not a 'health food', plenty of fat in it.
The upside is no animal was killed in the feeding of me.

    • wow, quite a touchy subject !

  • +3

I tried the Beyond Meat product at Grill'd recently and was quite impressed. If you fed it to a regular meat eater as part of the whole burger and didn't tell them about it I bet they'd have no idea they weren't eating meat.

I don't understand why people get so upset and almost militant about meat versus veg. If you want to eat meat, go ahead. If you want to eat an alternative while maintaining almost all the taste, got for it. Do what you want.

  • Wish they call it vegetarian burger to save me time looking at this sheet :)

    • -1

Technically a "burger" is something that uses beef mince.
      Everything else is a sandwich

      • what's a 'Ham'burger then?

        • Copy and paste from google

They actually get their name from Hamburg, Germany, home of a cut of beef called the Hamburg steak that eventually evolved into what we now consider hamburgers

          • @Herbse: arrr, gotcha.
the English language is an ever changing beast

  • +2

Expect to see more and more of these deals. Grill'd have said they expect up to 50% of their menu to be plant-based in the coming years.

  • +2

Considering beyond burger patties cost 4x more than regular beef mince. This is a good deal and probably a loss leader for them

    • hopefully economies of scale will come into play as they grow in popularity and start to compete with the dead cow alternative on price as well as the other positives

  • +1

meat, veg, vegan, blah blah blah who cares, free burger is free +1

    • -1

The ingredient list might make you think otherwise.

  • +2

On my way to being judged for having two burgers.

  • +2

Says dine in only but I just got it takeaway!

    • me too. cbd westfield?

    • +3

Same here. Got the Chipotle and Garden burgers. Both were really nice! Off to sleep under my desk now…

      • Haha!

  • -3

Anybody wonder why Macca's haven't touched this crap ?

Macca's have done well the last 10 yrs with a nice 300% share increase is the answer .

    • KFC and Burger King USA are using Beyond Meat, so it would be hard for Mcds to use them. They have their own vegan burgers overseas.

    • +2

Not sure why you think this is crap? Everybody I know that has tried a beyond burger has loved it.

There is clearly a lot of demand for meat alternatives, I'm sure Maccas will have their own option soon enough.
