Sorry, ice cream machine is broken again.

i hear this a lot in the comments, but never have i ever come across it,,

          • +1

@Archi: Go in night or peak times you will hear them telling this in a lot .

    • +1

Fast food companies need to adjust for the majority of their market, which at this point are relatively broke.

      • So many shiny BMW & Audi outside local Maccas as usual. Manager is happy with sales.
        Seems not everyone is broke.

It is the small food outlets nearby that are just surviving.

        • +1

A shiny BMW or Audi does not indicate that someone isn't broke, not at all..

There's a heap of people with those cars living week to week my friend, and they all have less cash than they did last year, and the year before that.

          • +2

@FXx: Guess the top private school fees must be killing them😉
Each had several private school kids - picking up Maccas.
They seem to be doing ok.

Today there was even a new Aston Martin. Can't imagine they sleep in it😉

Houses here are selling for increasing record prices…

Most here are definitely not broke as you suggest. And not affecting Maccas profits - the manager & I like to chat.

But a few sleep rough in the forest near here. They spend any available money on things to deaden their pain.

We share a chat. Taken a few for far better meals than Maccas. So do know more about their lives than you think you do…

But they never were the local Maccas customers. All new to the area from down your way.
(I've run community based housing, support & employment programs for those in need. So have some understanding.)

Everyone is in a different situation.

As usual in a financial crisis - many, already with resources, are becoming far richer! The opposite of what you describe.

            • @INFIDEL: Yes, the top private school fees probably are killing them. I'll bet some have less cash to use at the end of the week than your homeless friends. Hence, they use credit cards to make ends meet.

In my opinion, anyone living week to week is broke. Whether you're living in perceived luxury or under a tree, when an unforeseen expense comes out of the blue and you can't pay it? You're broke! Spending time with the homeless doesn't make you intelligent on the topic.

Your contention that anyone with a 'shiny BMW or Audi' are part of some club becoming richer in a financial crises shows how uninformed you are here.

What you are right about is the impact on small businesses, who are pushed out by the big boys saturating the market with cheap deals and the like. We have a federal government who is more interested in growing the corrupt NDIS, creating meaningless government jobs, and infiltrating the nation with immigrants in order to fudge the stats on what in reality is a recession. Small business? They couldn't care less. They'll just watch you go out of business, then create a brand new tax payer funded job for you instead.

As any good leftie should be able to tell you, the easiest way to grow the government is to create more dependents.

      • Fast food companies need to adjust for the majority of their market, which at this point are relatively broke

Seems things are doing just fine here for Maccas & KFC. They know their market!
People are cutting back on some purchases, but not on cheap "treats".

Fast food sales boom despite Australia’s cost of living crisis
(McDonald’s Sales have fallen in USA, but not here.)

Aussies continue to spend up on cheaper, better-value fast food and takeaway meals despite the well-documented cost of living crisis.

Macca’s is in the midst of a sales boom, announcing plans to roll out 100 new stores across Australia over the next three years as part of a massive $1 billion expansion strategy. Its biggest expansion plan in decades.

This Deal is designed to bring in more customers to drive sales at quieter times.

        • The other part of this is laziness and convenience.

People choose not to cut back on these expenses because they can't be bothered, or don't have the will to do so. They'll keep buying their alcohol, cigarettes, tattoos, recreational drugs and junk food because they have no discipline - while being broke. Then complain about welfare $$, of course.

All Maccas and KFC have to do is tweak their prices to make sure the fish continues taking the bait. And of course this food is addictive. Said broke people, or low socio economic communities are also the most obese too.. in reality they should be the thinnest, shouldn't they? Try explaining to the 3rd world that in the West our rich are the thinnest, broke are the most obese. They won't understand.

The responsibility is ultimately on all of us to make the right decisions. It's a free market, it's not the fault of business. It IS the responsibility of the government to regulate the market though, which they do extremely badly.

          • @FXx: As it always has been at maccas etc. A hard habit to break for some😢

Lowering prices to meet their consumers meagre budgets as you previously suggested…
            will just promote more consumption.
Away from better food they could easily make for themselves at a lower price. Training the next generation in poor food habits.

Thats a justification given for raising prices through tax on junk food.
But people will still consume fast convenient food - cutting back on other vital spending.

I've funded & run free food programs, plus free classes teaching budgeting & how to grow their own food.
Created a social enterprise selling fruit from the farm, employing, supporting, feeding & training those in need.
Provided free weekly hot meals (cooked in park on camping stove where homeless lived) - demonstrating how easy, cheap & tasty nutritious food can be.

…It didn't change people's entrenched fast food habits.

            With 24hr Maccas 10min walk away - I occasionally grab a $4 Big Mac (& free McCafe coffee)😉

It's too bloody convenient - with 100 more stores coming soon😝

        • Macca’s is in the midst of a sales boom, announcing plans to roll out 100 new stores across Australia over the next three years as part of a massive $1 billion expansion strategy. Its biggest expansion plan in decades.

Seems like it was only the other day where they were lamenting falling sales.

      • They track sales, and we don't see that report. They don't have to care how broke people are, only if people are still buying their products. The question of 'why are people still buying their products when they're broke' is one they don't need or want to know.

Price is what the market will bear.

Soft serve cones were 50c yesterday. I ordered via the app

    • +2

I believe that's only the case in a few states; this will be nationwide.

      • Are we Nation (wide yes) or unreliable coalition? ;)

    • +5

Hamburgers have also been $2 for ages now

    • Mine is $1.10

      • Heh someone screwed up. Yesterday had both the 50c and $1.10 comes. Today back to only the $1.10 cones in Vic

        • I still see both price options

    • the self-checkouts well at times give a discount if u order it from there,
initially shows $1.10 until u add it to your order, which will show $0.50 instead
      (attempted yesterday)

  • Will the prices stay like this or will they go back up eventually, maybe when autumn arrives?

    • I believe the offer expires in 2150

      • 2150 as in the yet 2150?or 9.50pm this evening? Apologies if I'm uninformed.

  • +1

Usually there are price rises too when they overhaul the loose change menu

  • +5

All sizes of frozen drinks were $1 in the app for ages. There will be a price rise for them

    • +1

      Yeah that sucks

    • +1

Still are $1 for any size with in-app payment, expires 28/02/25 but they've extended the expiry date a few times already.

      • I guess the Loose Change menu is for everyone, not just app customers.

      • They might decide to adjust the app deal to reflect the loose change menu pricing.

    • +1

At my local McDonalds the frozen drink machine was either broken or they had run out of all no sugar options. This happened around half the time I went there. Some times I got a refund or normal large coke no sugar (win!) if the sale went through the app.

  • Apple pies are great, I think we're one of the only countries who still deep fry them

    • They come with Apple intelligence. Get fat faster ;)

  • Is the pie in the table apple pie?

  • Apple pie is selling for $1.5 tomorrow during the Maccas 30 Days 30 Deals.

    Cheaper by 50 cents :-)

  • +4

    Aren’t hamburgers normally $2 🤔

  • +5

$4 for a Sausage McMuffin?! That sad turd of a sandwich should be 50 cents and come with an apology!

    • I love Sausage McMuffins better than any of their burgers I've tried - due to budget that's only been cheeseburger and BigMac on my birthday (which is revolting give me a Hungry Jacks burger any day).
Pitty Sausage McMuffins aren't available all day.

  • What are McPops? Anyone know?

  • Can we have $2.50 cheeseburgers, please?

    • Just take your own cheese slice

  • Surely the hamburger can barely pass as a slider.

  • Could have made them 30 cent cones like the old days
