  • So not much of a difference between Jinko or Longi panels at 300/315W ?

    • +1

True. But some houses there is space only for 21 panels. So we prefer 315w since it is lesser work for us and helps achieve 6.6kw

      • My question wasn't worded properly I think.
I was asking if Longi and Jinko panels are much the same same ?

  • This 5799 price before or after the 2225 rebate?

    • It is before the VIC rebate. Will update the post

  • I have the identical 6.6kw Jinko+Fronius setup myself. Can't vouch for the installer but after one year can vouch for the setup. Check out my output here https://pvoutput.org/list.jsp?userid=69865

    • What happened on the 4th of July, that is very low output?

      • There was a day in Melbourne for me going back where it made 0.71kWh with 6.6kW system. It was half dark, raining all day, absolute miserable Melbourne day.

Yet give a bit of sun a few days ago in Winter Melb, and I can get over 20kWh.

Some days are just miserable hehe.

      • Can't recall. Probably a miserable July day. It happens

      • Independence day!

Don't you recall the dark clouds that descended?

        • I believe that was the mothership.

But we defeated it by uploading a virus, so all good.

      • Some day gonna be like that, doesn't matter whether your panel are north or south or under your blanket.

    • How have you found your change in power bills?

      • My power bill about a month ago was $70. This was a winter bill where most days were overcast. I'm predicting summer bills to be refunds. Our bill used to be $350, and on top of that, I've done an analysis and we're more relaxed about power use and have used 30% more power. So despite that, our bill went from $350 to $70.

I'll have my system paid off in 3 years.

        • Thats great. Thanks for that. Pretty much what I was thinking will happen in our household.

  • +1

I had the same system installed by Sparkin Energy in December last year (another OzBargain deal), and they were fantastic. Really quick, helpful with the paperwork, and no problems with the install. Highly recommended.

    • Likewise - fantastic installer. They used to subcontract out to larger solar retailers now deal with the public direct. Downside of this is their admin/communication can be a bit frustrating - ie have to follow up emails/texts/calls a fair bit. But I'm happy to deal with that side of things as their workmanship is 100%. Very neat and tidy work, friendly team on site.

The other benefit is they are flexible as to where the inverter is installed. I specifically wanted it in the garage in shade, which meant a bit trickier wiring/cabling for them, but they did it no complaints and no extra cost.

Highly recommend Vig/Ash and the team!! After hearing some of the horror stories from some installs, a bit of poor communication/paperwork with this company is nothing!

    • +1

      Same with me,
      Fantastic people doing Fantastic things

  • Few months ago i got 6.6kw Longi Mono Perc panels with Fronius 5kw inverter installed in Brisbane from a local electrician. Paid $4,000 in total

    • +1

How is it performing so far? Would you be able to give recommendation? I'm in Brisbane too, would like to see options myself.

      • Keen to hear about this too.
Why these panels instead of the LG NeON's?
        What about a battery?

        • LG are the premium end of panels. Most people don't feel it's worthwhile spending that much and these lower tier brands are still reasonable, but much cheaper.
          Batteries aren't worth it yet.

          Get more info at solarquotes.com.au

      • Performing very good so far. In Feb, march on a sunny day it produced around 38kw. In May, June and July total generation was around 2100kw

    • +1

That seems a little cheap at $4k given the equipment. Are you sure you got Longi panels or did they install cheaper ones on you? What's the workmanship like? It just seems a little on the cheap side, so where did they cut costs?

      • Yea they were Longi mono perc 315w panels. I checked them before they installed them. Got the tax invoice with all the details and warranty info. Workmanship looks quite good. Was a local electrical mob, not one of these big companies who employ cheap subbies to do the work.

One of my friends got the same system through another company with a 2 phase inverter and a highest house. He paid $4250

  • May i know do you install SMA ?

    • +1

Sma is old school, like Nokia back 15 years qgo

  • +1

this month's 3767 rebate allocation gone in 90 mins.
can Gov.Vic do any better? Looking at you Dan!

    • -3

They've said they will not be making changes to the program.

They're only running it at all because it was an election promise and so you can't say they aren't offering rebates. How well it's implemented doesn't matter. But then again, not sure why he cares about keeping election promises. I mean, mark my words, not a cent in compensation will be paid for tearing up the east-west link contract.

      • +1

But he did go to the election promising to tear up that contract, and the public knew that when they voted in the ALP. It's not like they won and then did a sneaky there.

Plus that was dirty tactics by the previous LNP government to quickly sign a contract knowing it would set the trap for the ALP.

  • Op, emailed you for a couple of quotes a few months back and never get an email back.

  • Can this be installed even if the switchboard is old, or does that need to be updated?

    • +1

i think switchboard must be upgraded

  • At over $8k, this isn't a particularly good price.

Edit: It's before the rebate, so a good price!

    • Yep it's pretty competitive for pricing. Some quotes people are getting for similar equipment is $8k before rebate.

      • -1

If you're paying 8k for Jinko panels you've been had.

    • I got quoted 6.12kW LG Neon 2 with Fronius inverter for 6.4k post-rebate which are better than Jinko.

A different installer I got 5.87kW same deal for $6k.

It's less than 6.6k, but LG's premium is normally more than that.

      • So are these price before or after the rebate?

This deal is before the rebate so the final price is $5,799 - $2,225 = $3,574

        • After the rebate.

This deal is before the rebate so the final price is $5,799 - $2,225 = $3,574

No. This price is after the rebate. It was originally 8k before the OP edited it. See comment here

          • @lostn: Read the comment above - someone asked if $5799 price is before or after rebate, and the rep said before and would 'edit the post'. Seems they haven't done so yet.

            • @placard: Supposing you're right. 3.5k for 6.6kw Jinko panels is not a spectacular deal. I've seen cheaper being advertised at shopping centers and a guy who went door to door.

Actually I had a few quotes in my email for Trina panels that are 3k or under, with Fronius.

              • +1

@lostn: I don't doubt they are cheaper systems on offer, usually sold by dodgy stands in shopping centres or door to door salesman.

A few points regarding those dirt cheap offers:

                • Are you sure the inverter is Fronius, or some cheap Chinese junk. As solarquotes says, you should spend more on your inverter than panels
                • Are you sure those deals are for reasonable panels (Longi/Jinko), or some unknown brand.
                • Are you sure the company in question will be around in 12 months time if there are any warranty issues?

I was also skeptical about Sparkin when I first saw the deal, but after reading reports of others using them, I took the plunge. I'm very happy. Their workmanship is great. I've read some horror stories online about solar installs, but never read a bad review about Sparkin. Attention to detail is great. One user told me that other companies had told him only x panels would fit on their roof, whereas Ash & the team spent extra time at his house and managed to fit on 4 more.

It's not worth going too cheap with solar, there's always a catch. There are a lot of dodgy companies out there. One example as I drive around, probably 1 in 5 installs I see have rooftop isolators with no metal shading. That's poor.

          • @lostn: that poster edited it to realise it was before the rebate…

        • -1

This system should cost around $4500 maximum before rebate. In Qld the same system can be I stalled for $4k and there is no rebate. In VIC due to rebate the installers have increased the prices. So the rebate is just benefiting the installers rather than consumers.

  • can we extend a current 1.9 system (with rebate)? i wouldn't mind a bigger system…

    • Unlikely.

With a string inverter, it's going to have to be the same panels.

And if you got a rebate before, then you won't get another.

  • +1

I have used the installer for a 10.5Kwh setup. No issues at all.

    • HOw much did it end up costing you?

  • Question: Had house build in 2011 which came with solar hot water (I believe it was compulsory at the time) - would this preclude getting the rebate?

    • +1

      No, I don't believe so.

The only issue I can see if if the solar hot water panel on the roof might take up valuable space where you could fit a few extra PV panels. What I've read some people doing is removing the solar hot water and fitting PV system, putting hot water system onto off peak power. That way PV system with extra panels, is in effect offsetting the same as solar hot water panel would.

Alternatively you can fit solar panels around the solar hot water panel. You should be eligible for the rebate.

I think if you apply for solar hot water now through a rebate, then that excludes you from also getting a rebate on PV panels.

  • For what it's worth, in Perth we recently got a quote for 6.615Kw Risen 315Kw half-cut Mono PERC Panels with a 5 Kw Growatt Inverter for $2699. Can change to a Fronius inverter for an extra $1k. Both quoted 5+5 warranties. I've spoken to a few different installers and they have mentioned that Fronius service has been degrading, and for the $1k price difference, I can deal with a Growatt…

  • Hi Op

Am in Victoria (3137) have an existing 1kw system installed about 10 years ago, thinking of replacing or expanding. Currently get the highest feed in tarrif.
Don't think eligible for state rebate, would this be eligible for Fed Gov STC or am I reading the info wrong?

    Thanks

    • Hi,

If the panels have stopped working(:))you can replace the system and still get the STC.

      • can you make the panels stop working for me ;)

        • Could you please email me the details

  • Hi OP,

Emailed you about the quote in the weekend but still no reply. If you can, please DM me. Thanks!
