Thanks to new suppliers and price

    $100 more

Why are you thanking them again?

    • +2

Cos of the Jinko panels. we weren't able to source them for competitive price last time. The price increase is due to STC reduction mainly

  • If the installed generation capacity is 6.6 kW, will a 5 kW inverter be adequate?

    • +1

Allows for more production in the morning/afternoon as you can hit your inverter peak earlier and later from what I understand

    • +1

I have not seen or heard of panels performing at their stated capacity (and they deteriorate to 80% in few years anyway). I think 90% at peak times is the best. Inverter will cut anything that goes above 5kw. And 5kw is probably the limit for generating unit that can be permitted on single phase.

    • Happy to explain the electrical engineering off line but the ratio of 1.33:1 DC to AC is an industry standard and safe standard. It can go higher with a battery. You get more am and pm at the cost of midday clipping. I'm not endorsing this cheap deal btw. The fail rate for cheap systems was published this week…Google it please. The Fronius inverter is good. But a cheap system has to cut costs and quality somewhere. It's a 10 + year investment so buying on price is a poor investmen.

    • Yes. You are allowed to "over-panel" by 30%. Even that isn't enough depending on the system but AS5033 (??) sets the maximum over-panel.

The best my GFs recently installed 6.5kw jinko panels and 5kw Zeversolar has done is 4.7kw output and it's normally around 4.2-4.4. We think it's because the panel positioning isn't optimal.

If your supplier is trying to sell you 5kw of panels and a 5kw inverter he isn't doing you any favours.

We had one quote and it was 6kw panels & 5kw inverter. I questioned why and the salesman said "It will allow for expansion later". My reply was "this system will never be expanded"

  • how much will be the rebate in Victoria? Total price after rebate?

    • +1

Max rebate is $2225 if you fulfil the conditions of $180k annual income, vlaue of property less than 3 million and previous not isntalled solar or installtion was before 2009.

So at the end , the out of pocket would be $3574

      • Thank you

      • +3

        Just to clarify that:

        1. You need to earn less than 180k/year.
        2. Be the owner-occupier as listed on the Rates Notice within the last 12 months.
        3. Property worth less than $3 million.
        4. No previous solar PV or existing installation was done before 2009-11-01.
        • Do you need to apply and have it approved before install?

          • @davemc: No…there is a fair wait at the moment with the rebate.

            • @placard: How much wait?

              • @freewhere: @placard so you put the paper work in and wait slow gov time of 3-4 months before you install. Then they loose it all and you start again :)
or install and hope it all gets approved

                • +1

@davemc: Either or. I applied and in the meantime installed. I can't see any reason why I won't be eligible so not worried.

                  • @placard: Will there be a possibility that the government funding is finished/rebate ended abruptly, and the application then gets rejected? (even after you go ahead with paying for the installation etc?)

      • What if total income is mote than $180k? Any rebate at all?

        • None at the moment and don't see it coming either

      • 180+ income limit on household or per-person applying?

  • -5

Not a deal , Have seen Solar Link advertised in Herald Sun for $4990 for a 6.6 KW system

    • +1

Next time post it up here?

    • +1

What's their equipment though? How long do you have to wait to have it installed with them? months?

    • +3

Devil is in the details. can you post here, what the system like inverter, panel etc

    • +4

Were they Jinko panels and a Fronius inverter? Not all packages are created equally.

      • +1

Nor are installers… A bad installer can make quality gear look bad…

        • +2

Read the previous deals posted and look at the reviews in each of them where people have chosen them and gone through with it. I also have recently gone through them and they are really good. They apparently used to be subcontractors for the bigger solar retail companies but now go direct to the public - so yes, their communication is lacking. But I can put up with that for the savings. I went through SolarQuotes website and all the other quotes were another $2k more expensive for similar equipment.

These guys turned up on time, very meticulous and careful, gave me the choice where I wanted the inverter in my garage (some installers will just put it where it's the easiest for them, but not ideal for the inverter (ie in full sun). The wiring was all done very neatly and my install looks professional.

After reading of some woeful stories on Whirlpool of some installs, or people who sign up and then have to wait months for an install, these guys are very good. From initial contact with Vig via email, and a few back and forth enquires, within two weeks it was installed. I was also concerned by not very many online reviews, etc, but after reviewing the ABN, and asking around a few others who had used these guys to install I was relaxed. After my own experience I can recommend them.

They aren't the cheapest, but you don't want the cheapest - the cheapest use rubbish panels, bottom of the range inverter and not meticulous with the workmanship.

If you can put up with some poor lacking communication, these guys are pretty good. After all, down the track poor communication is long forgotten if the product on my roof is working well.

          • @placard: ^ this. I made a review about them too and concur with above. Everything went well and would recommend. However, communication is lacking.

            • @ykwon10: Yes I think basically they are not used to the administration side of things - and customer focus - which I'm sure they'll improve on in time. But their workmanship and customer focus when on site is fantastic.

    • +9

If you're not sure it is a bargain, you are not sure it is not either.

      Not a fair neg.

      • So its a bargain until proven otherwise, I prefer the other way round so we don't get inundated with solar deals. The community has spoken though…

        • +1

You don't have to upvote nor down vote. If unsure, don't vote. This isn't an Australian election.

  • is an upgrade to microinverters possible?

    • +1

we will have to quote you for that separately based on the number of panels etc

      • +1

Oh and what about 3 phase?

    • +1

      Not the same system…

    • +1

It is a 275 w poly panel system with Zever solar. They haven't said the panel brand so can't say more about it. But something similar with us about be about $4800. And to give you a system with the premium panels like jinko/LONGi mono ones with Zever solar would cost you about $5000

    • +3

Zeversolar inverter is bottom of the range. Fronius is top of the range. I know which one I'd pick. This is not a fair comparison at all. Like asking why buy Mazda when I can buy a Great Wall chinese car.

The won't even mention the panel brand - so probably unknown Chinese rubbish too.

      • I wouldn't say Zever is bottom of range. It's entry level of what is acceptable. There are a much worse inverters on the market that you wouldn't fit.

        Agreed, Fronius is really good.

  • +5

Hey, just letting you know that I can't really trust someone with a @gmail.com email address, rather than a business email address.

    • +1

Fair point. Will get that sorted within the week

    • +3

Absolutely agree, at under $6 a month for business grade email and domain, I don't know why any business wouldn't set one up from the get-go

  • Hi,
So the income has to be less than 180k, correct? What determines how much rebate we'll get? Thanks

    • +1

Combined income of everyone in the rates notice should be less than 180k.

Total rebate is $2225 or 50% of the cost whichever is lesser

      • Combined 2017/18 taxable income of everyone live in the house???

        • No, only those listed on the Rates notice.

  • Hi ,

    Some pertinent questions :

How long is warranty for , what is covered in the warranty.
What kind of service can we expect , I dont expect on ASAP basis however , if it will take a week or 10 days then it will be a determinant as to whom I choose.
Is the inverter compatible when we decide to upgrade to battery , pls advise if there are any costs involved.
How long you guys have been around ? ABN if you dont mind.
Why you dont have an email which shows the domain / company you represent ?!

    Cheers

    • +3

I just had mine installed last week, Not as many Panels small roof pity
I was also bit sceptical, after doing the usual checks, like who are these people and after a couple of quotes from other places
      I bit the bullet

Others wanted to sell lesser Inverter and panels for close to what was advertised.
Then you get the usual but we have been around for years and blah blah blah we are experts…

After nearly 100 emails with V at Sparking Energy (well seemed a lot)
I went with it, all good glad I did

Installation team 4 guys over the roof, they not what they are doing
Have a chat ask questions get the best that is right for your roof.
If it dont look right ask them.

I advised what I wanted, and they squeezed in as many as they could,
Other companies dictated what I could have and if I wanted more we will sure let's see on the day and will cost much more,( more blah blah)

My Inspection is tomorrow, already been approved for the rebate as I cancelled a previous company install n the cool off period,
Paperwork started before Christmas, just need to advise Solar.vic of the change of supplier.

From my experience with all this (Zero until last week) and it can be a brain fry, I am more than happy.

No battery to expensive…but I hear there maybe something after August in the next phase
I found this by ringing solar vic and it was mentioned in there pre recorded message while on hold.

All I can say if you have reddies and you meet the criteria for the rebate just do it
No expert about solar or the fiddly bits on how it all works 100% learning as I go along

Stick it to the power companies is all I say.
      So far So Good,

  • +2

I used these guys from their last deal, wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

  • I can't comment on the installer but I've got the exact same Jinko setup on my roof. You can check my recent outputs here https://www.pvoutput.org/list.jsp?id=69865&sid=62080

  • Is this available in the country?

    • Not sure where you are, but from the last deals in the links provided some peopled asked about rural places and it was a little extra to cover their travel.

  • Hi there, what's your opinion of SolarEdge. How much for 22 panels with SolarEdge 5kw inverter?

    • Solar edge is a really good choice but it would be an overkill if you don't have shading issues.

      • Thanks Sparkinenergy - apparently they have a deal on at the moment of buy 21 Ssolaedge panels get 1 free with 5kw inverter?

  • Hi
Will you apply the rebate for me or do I have to do it myself?
What is the procedure will be like if I want to install Solar panel with you? Do I pay upfront first and then get the rebate later?

    regards,

    • Each person has to apply for their own Victorian rebate. Once you initially contact an installer they provide you with a Solar Provider Statement, and you use this along with your Notices of Tax Assessment for everyone on the Rates notice, along with the Rates Notice to begin the application process for the rebate. Once the install is finished, more documents are supplied by the installer which are submitted to the rebate process.

Usually a deposit of $1,000 is required at the start with the balance paid after install completed. In total, you pay the $5,799 and then claim back the $2,225, which seems to be taking around 2-3 months at the moment.

  • Can anybody recommend someone in SYD?

    • My brother is a licenced solar installer. So it cuts out the middle man. Midas Solar
0450700642. Call or SMS preferred with your details and he will give you a call back as he's on the roof quite a bit. Sydney based. Uses only tier 1 products. He puts through the rebate and you only pay the difference. I don't know the technical stuff but he will be able to answer your questions. It's usually less than 2 week turnaround from application to installation.

      • +2

Tier 1…the phrase that means nothin with regards to the quality of the panels….

      • That's the same as any installer with the Federal rebate on STCs.

The Victorian rebate is additional and claimed by the homeowner.

      • cool…

    • We used Captain Green in Oct 2018.
Pricing was competitive for what we bought. We wanted an acceptable entry level product for around $5k (Jinko panels and Zever inverter) as we'll probably only be in this place another 4-6 years. If it was a longer period we would have paid the extra and got Fronius.

Quality of installation acceptable (there's a few bits that nobody can see that I wasn't happy with).

So far no problems but something like this is only as good as the after-sales service…

  • How long does it take to install? E.g one full weekday?

    • Usually between 4-6 hours depending on complexity

  • Hi OP,

What would the package cost if I want only 18 panels installed?

    Thank you.

    • Tam,

      It would be $400 less

      • Thanks. I also have sent you an email too. Please check your email.

        Tam Vo

  • I heard the VIC government will have the interest-free loan plan in July 2019? Does this mean it's better to wait if you don't want to spend upfront?

  • Unusual business name & would sound a bit more professional if you didn't use a gmail address (although I understand that this doesn't have any effect on quality of installation).

  • +1

These guys are the real deal. Vig, Ash and the team did an awesome job, no fuss or issues.

I could only get 20 panels, based on the right layout for my roof.. on a full day of sun, I'm pulling into 40kWh's.

My feedback can be found in the previous deal and Google reviews.

Honest advice, great quality product options and workmanship, best prices.. very happy.

  • +1

Just got installed today with sparkin energy. very good pre-consultation with Vig, took a few phone calls and messages, Very knowledgeable and genuine advices. cannot tell anything like the normal sales person. Also got some paperwork to apply for rebate before the installation.

Booking is a BREEZE! fast and efficient, some company i got quoted cannot install till April. So this is like incredible.

Price is the best! i got another company quoted similar price, but typical sales person which i hate, push you sign up on the spot. have to ask permission for the best price if i sign up on the day. My neighbour spent nearly 6000 for a 4.4KW REC+SOLIS system, so this is good value, at least you won't get ripped off.

Installation is quick, efficient, professional, and with a smile. Ash and his crew (4 people) did fantastic job, didn't cause any trouble with my day, and cleaned up the site after!

    Will def recommend sparkin energy!

  • Totally not recommend this mob, absolute waste of time. Called on the 5th on the mobile number and spoke to him about solar, asked to send me email address and I would get an email with the quote the next day. I didn't hear anything for two days, I sent a reminder text on the 7th and to this day haven't heard from him.

    • You just need to persevere. They aren't good in the communication side of things but great workmanship and price.

Just keep emailing and calling, you'll get there eventually.

      • I am paying them not the other way around. We shouldn't be encouraging or supporting dodgy businesses like this, and should warn everyone else not to get in touch with mobs like this.

There are way many other installers who will chase you up with phone calls and emails.

Imagine if you need any kind of support post install, good luck with that.

        • Mine got installed last month, all was great. Sent them an email about this offer and that I want it, along with the details. They replied and we arranged a time. Less than a week later they came and did the installation. Communications were great in my experience.

Note though that I didn't really ask about stuffs (i.e info about solar that I can find elsewhere); it's more like straightforward down to business. They're probably very busy with installations and invoices

          • @lyon: They might be extremely busy and that is no excuse to say that I will send you a quote tomorrow and two weeks later there is nothing despite following up and getting ignored.

Like I said if that is how they behave during the initial quoting and getting your business, imagine the after sales support.
