[email protected] email. Tempo Aust being the ones who are T/A ALDI Solar.
I wonder what the process is if your switchboard needs an upgrade
you pay extra for the switchboard upgrade but a smart meter should be free from the distributor.
Having been through a battery install recently, if you have any doubts about your site, insist they come and look at what they are dealing with
@Kawaii,I am also based in Western Australia. Can you please provide me details of the company you got it installed from & what is the warranty provided for the whole system? Thanks
Then what's the point of posting the price you got if it was a special discount just for you? Other than bragging rights?
@mimik13: The usual OzBragain bragging as opposed to providing actual usable information, much like the "but it was cheaper four years ago when they had a pricing error" posts.
@mickeyjuiceman: "It was cheaper during the pileup on the kwinana freeway south when it was all over the road"
If theres one industry where cheap offers from a company with no prior experience is a high risk, it's solar. Could be absolute garbage, could be good. You might get a good installer or you might get a cowboy. You're risking a very expensive asset (your house) to save a few $. Bad roof penetration? water damaged ceiling etc. The worst case isn't just losing your $6k on a dud product. But it could also be absolutely fine. It wouldn't be good for ALDI if they tarnished their brand like the standalone solar brands. For one I don't see any endorsements from cricketers so thats a good sign.
Oh also 100% this is being subcontracted to another party, not a ground up team owned and manage by ALDI.
Yep

Yep, ULTRA-risky.
Also, why bother with a 5kWh battery? Just too small to be worth it.
I think the theory is it will be used every day and help the return on investment calculations. A larger batttery is more useful but could be sitting idle for half the year in spring and autumn when heating or cooling isn't needed. That little battery will be used just to power the basics such as the fridge overnight saving about $1 per day.
More than enough for an average household. Battery will be consumed during the night only not in the morning when there is sunlight.
unlikely.
I've just had a 16kW battery installed this week. not even 48hrs ago.
from about 7pm till about 7.30am you need the battery to do the work.
In that time I am consuming about ~30-35% of the battery.winter will be worse. VIC will be worse again.
I am in SYD.perhaps my battery is still settling in but I dont see how 5kW can be enough.
@daft009: It would depend on your usage and appliances you have. Etc. maybe U got a rather large house with lots of users. This might be suitable for a couple with a smaller house.
Sydney houses are quite large and generally not well insulated imho.
@hippyhippy: Minimal usage. Only fridge. And some appliances on standby
Don't even own a TV.
About 0.3kW evening use 830pm to 730am@daft009: That would be 3.3kwh, sounds like a 5kwh battery would work fine for you.
Unless you’re off the grid, it seems like the cost of that extra 10kwh of battery storage wouldn’t be worth it over using a little off peak power from time to time.
@freefall101: I'll be switching to Amber to try and make some $ back during the peak times..
If we have aircon on or heating then it will drain more
Last night was very pleasant so didn't need either
@daft009: Microwave? Air fryer? Washing machine? Dryer? Boil a kettle? Fan? Heater? Amazes me what people forget when they decide a small battery would be fine.
@syousef: Interesting overcast day today. My 16kW is at 55% this morning, been using it since sunset last night.
See how the day goes today.
5kW battery specially in VIC is really not enough IMO
why bother with a 5kWh battery? Just too small to be worth it.
It depends on your usage profile. I have 27kW of battery and some nights I use 3kW, others 9kW. I know others that drain their daily. Outside the peak usage hours of 3.pm-10.pm it doesn't matter that much.
My whole installation (panels/inverter/batteries) was ~$25500 so Aldi's price has its place in the market.
I had our solar installed by Clear Solar - who went bust not long after - never got my refund.
I'm going to peer into my crystal solar ball and predict Aldi Solar will pull out of the market within the next 24 months.
I just put a deposit down on the following for $10k total, by a reputable installer.
Neovolt Battery 5kw inverter, 10.1kwhr battery with 9.6kwhr useable with 5kw backup to essential circuits 8.2kw worth of Sunpower 410w Panels.
Good deal! Could you tell us who's is the installer?
Yup. Following.
Wasn't a volume installer, Northern NSW company. If you are in the region send me a PM and I'll give the details but I don't wanna post it up here on a deals website and have them inundated with people demanding the same price because I do realise they gave me a very good deal.
I'm sure if you track down someone in your area installing the Neovolt setup they could give you a similar price.
In getting a neovolt installed this weekend.
Already got solar.
The second battery is 5100 from them until 28th February
more info please - thanks
Any reputable VIC NeoVolt installers?
What could possibly go wrong.
Nothing at all. ALDI brands are just as good if not better than well known brands but at a cheaper price. At least that's what they drum into all customers heads. I'm sure this little not very well known company has been vetted by ALDI to represent the brand and won't do anything to damage their highly regarded reputation.
I see the Aldi marketing and paid “news” segments on A Current Affair is working well at brain washing people. Aldi is a cult at this point.
Seriously, Aldi food is okay. No better, no worse than the home brand products at Woolies.
But the electronics they flog are constantly being recalled. Strapping their shit on top of a house and wiring it up sounds so mental.
@Lizard Spock: Indeed it is. Mr Hofer is one of the Aldi brothers son-in-laws. I believe the name change is for taxation purposes.
agree 100%. Nothing will go wrong especially when it is backed by ALDI brand
Basing this on? Clearly not all their recalls.
@PainToad: Tempo Australia could be good or could be bad, basing reputation on the reliability of Fridges, TV's or Microwaves they sell is not really comparable. But at the same time, a diverse maker of goods and services is not necessarily ideal either.
I do feel a specialised provider of panels, inverters and batteries AND installation is best.
But do you go for a National company, International or Local company?
I do know that SolarQuotes does do a good job though.
And Mr Finn Peacock does a fine job, providing exceptional information over very many years. And Mr Finn Peacock does a fine job, providing exceptional information over very many years.
He's sold the company to Origin Energy for a big bag of gold
@brad1-8tsi: Thanks as you have said (and news to me)…
On December 1 2024, after almost 16 years of running the business 24/7/365, I sold SolarQuotes to Origin Energy. But don’t worry! I’ve promised to stick around for at least 2 years to ensure we stick to our values of killer content, honest advice and vigorously vetted installers.
He's sold the company to Origin Energy for a big bag of gold
Oh that explains the quality of service going downhill… I never got an email with the three companies I chose.
The recalls say otherwise!
Its not Aldi - its AldiSolar!
Website & Deal link is to AldiSolar, NOT Aldi!
It's provided by Tempo Australia, T/A "Aldi Solar".ALDI brands are just as good if not better than well known brands but at a cheaper price.
But it isn't an Aldi brand as such.
The installation company is a "partner" giving Aldi a commission on sales. They will sub-contract and the sub-contractors will sub-contract further. Warranty will be a problem further down the track if my experience with Origin Energy is an indicator.
I would strongly recommend that if the company sub-contracts the installation the installation then go elsewhere.
Nothing is an Aldi brand. They just take regular cheap products and flap their own logo on the side.
What could possibly go wrong? You get allocated an INexperienced or dodgy installer. I got a dodgy installer when I got a deal on a solar hot water system years ago from Origin Energy which resulted in a short that blew the render off my bathroom wall. Origin had to send a remedial sparky to fix it.
The second instance was when I recently bought a air con system from Bunnings and had it installed by their installers. The installers had no licence, made a mess of it and Bunnings had to get a remedial sparky to fix it. The remedial sparky said the initial installers wiring was so bad it could've caused an electrical fire.
With major retailers offering installation, they farm it out to a big third party service organisation who then give the work to contractors in your area who then often sub-contract the work out to the often cheapest bidder. And they can be cheap for a reason. Often the margins are so small, the subcontractors cut corners resulting in a sub-par job.
Twice bitten, third shy as the say. Go with a reputable installer.
I had issues with the rooftop solar I got from Origin Energy. Warranty was difficult. Getting breakdown repairs was difficult. Just getting someone to discuss the issues at Origin was difficult.
Roof leaks just to name one
That's not quite how insurance works
Doubt that
Tempo Aust trading as ALDI Solar.
Tempo have been a major supplier of consumer electronics to Aldi for many years.
Mainly rebadging Chinese factory gear for Australian market.
Quality of equipment sometimes was dubious. At least U get the aldi backing… If there's a recall on the battery or solar at least U know ALDI is highly likely going to play ball.
Wouldn't count on it…
It's not as if you can return it to a store!Website & Deal link is to AldiSolar, NOT Aldi!
It's provided by Tempo Australia, T/A "Aldi Solar".
You have to deal through them, not your local Aldi.(Bit like RSPCA Pet Insurance is not provided by RSPCA.)
Tempo Australia are importers of consumer electronics like TVs sold @Aldi , designing firmware for that.
So here - they import the panels & inverters. They're not solar installers. Most likely they outsource the installations.
[As a consultant, Tempo Australia contacted me for help with issues with their products sold @Aldi. So got to know about their operation, importing, & quality control issues.]
The promotion doesn't even have link to important warranty T&C on panels & inverter!!
Don't sign up without closely examining that.I'd be wary!
Wait for reviews of installs. But issues may be slow to show up with a new operator. Can take up to 10 years for major issues to arise.
As others have mentioned above, This is a super risky system. I have worked in the solar industry for 8yrs now and can tell you straight up that I haven't even heard of Altius inverters before. Also, most panels in the market are sitting at the 440w mark currently. 380w panels are VERY old (probably about 3-4yrs ago we were selling them). That is just another red flag to me. I personally would suggest looking into a good brand with great customer service like Fronius. It's more expensive but it does a much better job. When it comes to panels you can go a little cheaper if your budget doesn't stretch as far, but having a good "brain" for your system is key to a long life system.
Additionally, another tip for those looking at solar. Be careful giving your information to companies like Solarquotes, as they just sell your information to solar companies (thats how they make their money). It's not as they quote "the BEST 3 in your area". Its just the three that will PAY for your information. Good luck to all of you ozbargainers.
I haven't even heard of Altius inverters before
Not surprising for many Aldi products!
Tempo Australia rebadge Chinese factory products for Australian market. Slapping on an Aldi trademark. Sold only by Aldi.Altius inverters - Aldi's rebadged inverters produced by Afore
Afore claim to be "one of the leading PV inverter manufacturers in China".
No trademark for Altius or AltiusSolar listed in Australia.
https://www.altiussolar.com.au/ is unavailable!
Also - No links found to important warranty T&C on panels or inverter!
I agree with everything you say up until you what you say about SolarQuotes.
I don't work for them, and don't have experience of the industry, but their level of information and education is detailed and useful.
You can also try to do your own research on finding the right bits, parts and pieces and then get an installer who will install them.
I have found installers or companies do have their own preferred set-ups and equipment: obviously buying in bulk to scale across savings does require a commitment to certain requirements and minimum orders and things like that.I agree with Squiggles91 re: solar quotes - they're ultimately lead farming for companies who will buy them.
None of the companies they referred me to are still in business. 1/3 was a high pressure salesperson who wouldn't talk to me without my wife present. 1 was a kid who wanted to churn out a quote for as many panels as they could fit onto an overlay of my house. 3rd was non responsive which is weird given they paid for the introduction.
This takes nothing away from the site being a good resource to educate yourself and read other peoples reiviews and experiences. It is ultimately a business at the end of the day and they make it work by providing domain expertise and education to capture referral business.
Aldi have a great returns and refund policy. Just return for refund if it fails
Returns don’t unburn down a house.
Good luck getting a trolley that holds 16 panels
Use the Bunnings trolley.
Some people can't read sarcasm (or maybe they got offended by your joke).
Thank you @juicejuice really good stuff from SolarQuotes…
Also on SolarQuotes for any useful discussion:
Please keep the SolarQuotes blog constructive and useful with these 5 rules:
- Real names are preferred - you should be happy to put your name to your comments.
- Put down your weapons.
- Assume positive intention.
- If you are in the solar industry - try to get to the truth, not the sale.
- Please stay on topic.
Do you get good solar power returns on the planet Flohston?
Will be part of ALDI's regular recall campaign 12 months down the track?
Pretty sure the Vic battery rebate in min 6kW to qualify?
$1400 rebate is for the panels.
There are also two interest free loans: one for the system ($1400) and one for a battery (up to $8800).
I guess I will take a risk and get it installed for my garden shed where I grow my……….vegetables.
If I'm unhappy with the product can I return it to any ALDI store within 60 days for a full refund?
You can but they won’t refund you the cost of ripping all those panel out of your roof.
Backed by a 10 year warranty and 25 year performance guarantee on panels
No links found to those important T&C!
I mean after their powerpoints were recalled…..ill pass
What happened?
Aldi selling cheap shit that risks killing people from fire or electrocution. Just a regular day at Aldi.
But the Aldi simps here continue to defend them because their cheap home brand groceries are slightly cheaper at the checkout (shocking that cheap products are indeed cheaper, I know)
https://www.productsafety.gov.au/search-consumer-product-rec…
I might be being blind, but there's very little detail about the warranty in the T&Cs or anywhere else I can find. e.g. if the inverter dies during warranty or if a panel goes bad, etc. what is the process of having it remediated. I wouldn't trust this offer without getting explicitly written information on such responsibilities and costs.
Does this mean cheap(er) batteries are on the horizon?
Got solar last year. Last few bills were:
$58
$32
$0My last bill was literally $0! (single person who works most days)
Bills have been $0 for years for me - due to credits & other benefits for switching retailers in Deals here.
*No solar installed, all electric aircon house.
Someone home almost all the time.Received over $1100 refund to bank from Origin (after recently switched retailer) - due to unspent cost of living rebates in Qld💰
Got $150 electricity credit + $200 MC for switching to new retailer!
Last bill was likely $0 because the energy rebate instalment was applied to bills on 13 Jan.
Not saying solar is a bad choice, we have it ourselves, but don’t think that the $75 off your bill didn’t help at all there.
For about $2000 more, NeoVolt is offering 10kW Longi Panels with NeoVolt 5kw Hybrid Inv and 10kW battery, fully installed
Nowadays it comes with 10yr warranty I suppose.Any reputable VIC installers?
Opposition is looking to subsidize batteries if elected. Might pay to hold off.
With their Nuclear Option, there is little need for roof-top solar or batteries in future.
You actually think we're getting nuclear?
[Pre Order] 12kW Nuclear Reactor System $7,999,999 Installed @ ALDI Nuclear
That is why I referred to it as their Nuclear Option.'.. an extreme choice when reacting to a particular situation
It's just about policy differentiation & getting elected. NOT reality!
Even members of their own party aren't supporters. But it will affect long term investment decisions💰
15 years until functional so this is a stop gap to then
Good, Different.
5kwh is very little. For context, any appliance with a heating element may use up to 2.4kw per hour. So that is just 2 hours of capacity. Air fryers, ovens, air dryers would be the main culprits at night.
Have to cook dinner at midday instead when the sun is shining. Perfect for families who are at home during the day.
Seems expensive. You can get a system twice as large for half this price…

Brand of inverter, battery, panels are all Altius.
Tried Googling and got Altius' homepage that seems to be dead.
Guessing this is ALDI's "custom" brand and is quite new, SolarQuotes have nothing on these guys either: link, other than that the parent Chinese manufacturer is Afore
