Just purchased this from Officeworks so thought I would share in case anyone in the market for security cameras.

This is only a dollar cheaper on Amazon than Officeworks but with price beat you can effectively get 5% off the Officeworks price.

Cost was $568.10 from Officeworks after price beat so a saving of $30.90.

Enjoy.

I'm pretty sure I have the 8 camera version if this kit and it was on clearance for $398 from uncle Gerry? Or is there a newer model?

    • I'm not sure but Swann has it on their website for 599 also so unless yours was older model, different model or just a really great bargain I think it wouldn't be that much cheaper normally.

It's the same model, I found the old ozbargain listing. Same 1Tb DVR and same PRO-1080MSB cameras.

I love mine, works flawlessly with the iPhone app and an NBN connection. I installed mine myself, so it was super cheap all up.

There's also a Windows app so you can view the cameras on your PC, it's a bit of a sluggish program but works fine otherwise. According to someone further down in this thread, the Android app version sucks though.

  • Does anybody know if these can be DIY in a double story?

Same as a single storey. You just need a bigger ladder.

I'd say more, but my mind-reading is not working clearly. Double-brick with concrete slab maybe …?

Swann though… have they learnt their lesson?

    • Something we should know about?

Swann has a massive rep, particularly their security gear/CCTV being well underdone

Yeah - a colleague of mine and myself bought Swann kits WAY back when we didn't know any better. Never again. Lasted just over a year from memory, then every bit started failing.

My HIKVision setup has been 100% reliable since I switched. Whenever I see a Swann "bargain" I cringe but some people love them so maybe they have improved a little?

  • No reviews on this. How does this compare to Jooan?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/JOOAN-Wireless-Security-Channel-Su…

    • Plenty of reviews on other websites. Google DVR8-4580V for reviews on this model. Most websites have average of 4.6, 4.9, 4.7 … so seems pretty good.

    • Gotta +1 on the jooan cameras. Purchased the wired pack for $99 and cameras are amazing quality for the price.

Yikes avoid the Swann cameras if you can, unless you are just looking for a physical deterrent, the motion detection accuracy and image quality are very poor.

    • Might want to clue t25 into this :)

      • Thanks. I never liked their modems back in the day so I never paid much attention to them. Based on the experiences others have expressed it seems they are still a bottom tier product manufacturer

  • Their android application is really useless.
If you are considering to buy swann for the security camera, don't think that you can handle with android application. It is seriously useless

  • +2

my swann cameras didn't last for 2 years

    • What happened to them? Were they fully exposed to the elements, or tucked in under eaves?

      • i have outdoor and indoor version. the outdoor one quite often need restart power before it fail. Indoor have little bit of longer life. but mine is bullet outdoor type. not this newer one. it think is HDCVI with coaxial cable

    Stop looking at me Schwan!

What's the issue with the Android app?
