Thanks to @ashdays, @Chuppa & @shaidas - those last two links show prior deals that may interest. Note mods advised i post new deal when i suggested an update of older posts so it's not my fault i'm innocent.

  • Dupe, price is wrong, and the correct code for apps is WEEKEND25.

    • -2

Have you actually read the post?

Try the code then by all means comment.

      • I did. Says it cannot be applied to this offer. So I commented.

        • Oh, you're not the only one, my apologies.

          However it does for me:

Add to cart —> Checkout —> Enter promo code & Apply

Cleared cache & tried again & it still worked.

Haven't gone through whole purchase process though as i'd bought mine under the older deal.

  • Code does not work.

  • Worked for me. Thanks.

  • Lucky. Seems a bit random. I just get 'Cannot use coupon with the items in your cart.'

    But WEEKEND25 works.

  • +2

    Code works for me

Update: Appears to be part of their Memorial Day Weekend Sale

Save 60% Off Online Courses With Code: WEEKEND60, Save 25% Off Apps + Software With Code WEEKEND25, Save 15% Off Gear + Gadgets With Code WEEKEND15

WEEKEND60 shouldn't work on the VPN, but it does.

    • Oh dear.

  • Works. Thanks! Seems like a good backup

  • Working for me as well, cheers!

  • Hang on guys! After purchase $16 for life time, I downloaded the app for Mac, app for iPhone and Chrome extension. Three cannot work with login.

Try to login and it show the loading screen, after that go back to the login screen. What should I do?

    • True privacy, and some threats to by unabated, or we compromise on privacy and malicious actors get intercepted. Lots of people would (rightly?) advocate for true privacy…but I'm sure the woman in the article wouldn't.

However on topic, I thought pure was meant to have a good rep. I guess not.

  • Worked for me but couldn't seem to login to Chrome extension. US servers are painfully slow as well, not sure if I can do anything to make it faster.. hmm

    • US servers are too slow to stream HD content, trying to get a refund now. On hindsight I should have trialed their speed first before purchasing.. Windscribe free 50gb will do for now..

      • Did you get a refund?

        • no - still going through the motions. Trying directly with Ivacy and Stacksocial, fingers crossed.. In all honesty I did try all their recommended fixes but nothing I tried fixed the issues.. chrome plugin doesn't let me login, slow US streaming server speeds.

      • did you select cities, or just "USA"?
LA is sub 1mbps down for me, where as Atlanta is 9mbps.

        • if i "smart connect" to USA the speed is acceptable but that won't let me stream US netflix. I find that only if you connect via their "streaming" US servers it would work but the speed is around 1-2mbps. lol

      • Let us know how you refund going. I doubt it will be an ez journey. How can they grab money from people if they can test the speed first right?

  • I tried using Ivacy VPN with Windows 8.1 Pro but it killed local network sharing, even before launching the client. Uninstalling didn't fix the issue but System Restore worked. I tried reinstalling and changing various settings without success. Not encouraging.

    • +1

it shouldn't kill your local network shares, but a true vpn would.

what were you using it for? I find their split tunnel VPN bit works nicely. you can select which apps use the VPN, the rest just uses your normal gaterway.

      • +1

Mostly for accessing geo-blocked content. The split tunnel feature is an excellent idea, so one browser can peruse geo-blocked content without affecting other traffic. I've set up similar systems manually but it's tedious, so I was hoping for it to "just work."

I agree that a true VPN SHOULD block all local network traffic by default, otherwise it won't provide any anonymity or protection from compromised local networks eg free WiFi at the coffee shop where anybody can log traffic.

PIA's Windows client blocks local network traffic by default, but it's very easy to turn off when you're in a trusted environment. Ivacy's client broke the local network during installation, before logging in or enabling the Kill Switch. I'm sure it's fixable, but I'm just not in the mood.

  • Note that no refunds are given for redeemed purchases. Just read the fine print. Ah well. shrugs

  • The code still works

  • Thanks OP!
Was going to purchase yesterday but it was no longer USD $24 as code had expired.

  • +2

It's the shitest VPN service ever. Buggy app and terrible customer service. Wouldn't recommend. They say 7-days money back guarantee but you will have to email someone at ivacy and at best wait for their mercy. The lifetime subscription were always for at 30% off. Ffs, they can't set up a promotion code to work right. LOL

    • +1

Appreciate this honest review, you save me some money.

      • Ever seen an VPN won't give free trial to test their servers? This and according to above comments purevpn. So desperate they charge you $2.5 for a trail account.

  • Thanks. It worked for me as well.

  • worked for me. cheers OP.
Stacksocial are usually pretty good for offers - got getflix and vpn unlimited lifetimes from them before.

    • why need so many lifetime vpns?

      • +1

Because not all services work with certain VPNs - good to have a choice if one doesn't work or gets blocked just use the other.

  • +1

I bought the lifetime and nat deal last time it was out on stacksocial as a replacement for PIA which was coming up for renewal. The app was shit so tried for a refund (through stacksocial) - no dice.

However, i ended up running it as a vpn in dd-wrt - in this manner it works fine, speeds are ok for downloading linux ISOs ;) no complaints, would buy again for 24$ or whatever it was for 5+5 years.

    Cheers

    • No Linux client which is a pain in the arse. I might go PIA again just for that.

    • which app was shit? and what was wrong with it?

  • +1

Windows app just didn't work properly - wouldn't connect, then it would but say it hadn't or vice versa. Gave me no confidence that I could rely on it.

The router method has been pretty good, more stable than PIA in this regard (less disconnects).

  • worked with weekend60 for me- thanks op!

  • +2

Attempting to clear up the confusion where the code works for some people but not others.

There are two different Ivacy VPN lifetime subscriptions available on StackSocial:

As to when the code expires, I received an email from StackSocial this morning at 06:12 AWST saying that the Memorial Day Sale expires tonight. So that would be midnight on Monday night somewhere in the US. Maybe 😉

    1. I tested in a private tab and a normal tab, via a VPN using a US server and without running a VPN, so I'm pretty sure it's not a geoblocking/caching issue.

  • +2

Just got an email from StackSocial: the code has been extended 'til next midnight.

That's why it didn't expire 8 hours or so ago.

    Now for the rant:

Seriously!? In this day and age, specifying "midnight" without qualification? Should we assume UTC, GMT, our local time, your local time? (Remember the world doesn't revolve around where you are, nor does everybody even know where you are.)

Even assuming it's referring to the US, there's way more than one time zone to contend with. (Unless there's some code I'm unaware of, like a secret Mason handshake, where when an American says "midnight", it means a certain specific time.)

    End rant.

Since the web site shows that StackSocial is based in California, that would make the expiry Wed 29 May 23:59AWST, or Thu 30 May 01:59AEST.

    • Whoops! Big brain fart (or too much beer 😉) Offer can't possibly end at midnight local time if it ends at midnight California time!!

The correct expiry date is actually Wed 29 May 15:00AWST/17:00AEST.

    • 🤔 Looks like StackSocial may have forgotten about Daylight Savings Time in California. If that's the case, there's half an hour left for this deal.

Otherwise, I give up. I have no idea when it might end.

      (It's still active right now.)

  • How is the experience of people who just bought this?
Am I better off buying for 16USD using my papal. Or using my credits and pay 40USD. Can’t stack discount codes and store credits :-(

    • Does that mean we can't use the first purchase 10% + WEEKEND60 ? :(

    • -1

Well you haven't said how many credits you've got.

But, without wishing to be rude or judgmental or dismissive or anyfink, why would you debate the point over a lousy USD 16.00 ?

  • How can they possibly be making money offering a lifetime subscription for AUD$16? It costs a lot of money every day to run a VPN, so who is paying for it? If not you the user, then who?

    • Well, to start off with, it's USD 16, so it's actually AUD 23.

Secondly, it looks like this is a pricing error and it should really only have been USD 30, i.e. AUD 43.50.

Thirdly, the USD 30 is a three-day price reduction only (so essentially an advertising gimmick), and the base USD 40 is also a temporary offer (also ending at midnight California time).

Lastly, yes you're right. In the long term lifetime subscriptions will lose money for the company.

This article goes into some of the details. Basically lifetime subscriptions are either a Ponzi-like mechanism to grow the company, or are funded by VCs, also to grow the company.

If the company continues offering them, too many customers take them up, and growth slows (as will inevitably happen) then eventually the company will collapse unless it somehow sheds enough of those subscriptions.

If the company limits lifetime subscriptions, for example by initially offering them but then stopping (ala Windscribe), then it doesn't necessarily need to explicitly dishonour any of them. However, either or both of two things must happen:

      1. The regularly paying users will end up subsidising the lifetime users, so the prices will have to be set to above what they could have been, thus possibly becoming uncompetitive compared to those of other companies that never offered lifetime subscriptions (or managed to shed enough of them)
      2. Speeds for life-timers will drop as less resources are allocated to them. This seems to be happening with some companies now. (Note that this will lead to some life-timers stopping using the service, effectively shedding them.)
    • +1
      1. Grow business early and quickly to get hop on competitors by offering ludicrous deals.
      2. Once have critical mass increase prices while ensuring still competitive.
      3. Go back to bankers and tell them how scared you are of going bust but that have plan if they agree to a debt restructure (which can include forgiving part of loan).
      4. Bob's your uncle.

Simple dysfunctional free markets in action.

      • +1

        Nice succinct précis 😉

And oh, yeah, forgot about all the loan monkey business that can be involved.

  • I have Private Internet Access which should run out soon. Mixed reviews in the comments about Ivacy VPN. should I get this? Are speeds the same as PIA?

    • I've got both, but only use mobile 'broadband', so don't stress them too much anyway.

PIA has been fine, Ivacy not tested in anger yet, but given it's peanuts i just went for it.

  • So I managed to get a refund via Stacksocial. Dodged a bullet there.. Anyone has any recommendation for a reliable VPN service for normal downloads, Netflix US and UK servers? PIA? Windscribe?

    • +1

PIA seems the most popular around here, and that deal will likely expire soon.

I extended my own subscription for 3 years on that one.

The potential to miss out on a US$16 refund is not dodging a bullet. Now if it had been US$16,000 then sure.

  • Is speedtest working for anyone with Ivacy? I keep getting high latency errors or blocked socket error during upload speed test :-(
