    Here we go again.

Have a + anyhow for your efforts..

I don't know what these apps do that the website does not that causes companies to push them so hard.

Unless it's cashrewards or shopback I do not need an app to shop.

    • +3

But how will you get daily notifications of sales and specials if you don't take their app?!

      • +10

        OzB

    • +11

The app probably has permissions that allows them access to your microphone, camera, location all the time (what stores you visit), your browsing history, phone book/call history, what type of phone you own.

      • +4

You forgot direct access to bank transactions and account balances :)

        • +6

When I login with Paypal to pay for anything it keeps asking to "save details" or "maybe later".
How about, "stop f**king asking me" as an option? >:(

      • +1

        This is what I'm wondering.

I mean, there's permissions. You can see what those are.
There's notifications, you can block them (at least on LG it's actually quite detailed what you can block).

Maybe it's because, on average, people are plebs and don't know what they are doing

        • +3

Most are plebs, but most big tech co's are underhanded enough to take advantage of non-plebs too.

A dirty example is when you are switched on enough to change your permissions, as soon as you update, the app has reset all your permissions and got the info they were after.

scary moments: have had random conversation with friends, picks up a word, then get a related ad in eBay or Gumtree.

reality: its just a machine with bunch of codes in the end that looks at it all. Already "sell" so much data to Google and Facebook.

Another spyware app! The deals on aliexpress are the same, even on a laptop you have to install their spyware plugin to get the deals.

  • Just make sure you avoid buying any dirt cheap Huawei phone.. As Google has stopped all support update and app store for the brand…

Will be interesting to see what will they do now.

I predict a new Chinese OS will be launching soon as they have already planned if there is an attack as such.

    The real trade wars begins

Google hasn't stopped it, TRUMP has. Google is merely complying with Trump.

It's important to choose your words carefully so that the true offender gets the bad rep.

      • and i thought it was all two separate issues. The government is concerned about the backend hardware, not about the end user mobile phone? Its kinda annoying that one person can effectively ruin the 2nd largest manufacturer? of phones.

Its even more annoying that I still have another 16 months on my Huawei contract!

        • +1

Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross said that President Trump backed the decision and the targeted export ban will "prevent American technology from being used by foreign-owned entities in ways that potentially undermine U.S. national security or foreign policy interests."

Do you believe it? That banning Huawei in the U.S. is not enough, and you need to ban software/hardware providers to take down Huawei in non-U.S. markets as well?

      • ….you should just take the news 12 hrs ago

    • Is there anything Google can actually do to stop them just fudging it?
Realistically you can root your phone and make it appear like a different model, for example you can install Sony exclusive apps on any Android phone through the playstore.
Couldn't Huawei just take android and gapps and apply modifications to make it appear like a Pixel phone when connecting to the play store?

Google apps are banned in China anyway, so this won't affect their internal market.

    • +1

This is just another reason why I kept telling people never to buy a phone you can't root. Hauwei used to provide a boot unlock on request, but have since stopped and people should avoid all their phones for this reason.

      • +4

Agreed, Any phone which can't be rooted should be boycotted.

    • Why are you ranting about a phone on an eBay deal?

  • +4

Car parts look to be excluded again…

Or maybe just the items im trying to purchae are not eligble.

  • +1

  • +2

  • FFS where was this last night when i was buying $125 item and looking for a 10% off purchases over $120 code grrrr

  • Didnt work on any of the items I was interested in.

  • +2

looks to be working on the same listings that the previous 10%-15% discount (PHOENIX) worked on. Looks to be "trusted sellers/sellers with good feedback and recent sales" on buy now items. Stuff i sell is eligible, just a few bicycle parts i sell here and there.

    • Selected sellers who have already price jacked.

      • Nope, this is not an invitation-only promotion. The items I followed are still the same.

  • +1

As usual, doesn't work on car parts

  • +2

Eligible items as in unwanted junks no one wants to buy from eBay?

  • Important part of the terms:

You can only use the redemption code one time during the Offer Period

  • Right EBay, how are we supposed to see this on the app?
4.‘Eligible Items’ means all items listed on eBay.com.au where these terms and conditions are found and the coupon redemption code POCKET10 is displayed in the item listing.
