Just a FYI, other firmwares such as DD-WRT or OpenWRT cannot be installed on the D7 due to the ADSL2+ modem portion of the device. The cousin model C7 supports those firmwares however.

    • Big if true. I very nearly bought it just for that.

      Seems you are correct. https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=979819&sid=c…

Perhaps whoever downvoted you could chime in as to their reason?

      • I figure they're just salty? Or maybe it's because the cousin C7 cannot do ADSL2+ and therefore my suggested alternative isn't really a viable option for people looking for ADSL2+ equipment.

For $67 however, it's still a great deal, if you're stuck with ADSL.

If NBN is coming (tm), then a C7 + random bridging DSL modem would be better (although more expensive), while also allowing DDWRT/OpenWRT, if that's your thing.

If you're happy with stock firmware, the D7 will function with ADSL2+ and nbn-supplied FTTC/HCF devices.

Another edit: if FTTN or FTTP is coming, you should really ignore me. I know nothing about them.

        • $15 for the Archer D7 at Officeworks (if there's still any stock) is an even better deal. Of course there's limited stock so you'll be lucky to score one there. I got it the other day from the local Officeworks. Makes this $67.15 deal look less attractive.

Here's a pic of the purchase receipt as proof just in case you might be thinking that i'm telling porkies. I actually scored 3 of them for $15 each but this is my latest purchase receipt for the last one I decided to get the last time I went to the store. It was going for cheap so I thought why not.

  • Can I use this TP-Link Archer D7 for FTTC connection? Thx

    • No
      You need a VDSL router

VDSL modem for FTTC is supplied by nbn. The Archer D7 probably can work as a router. (I don't have one so this is not a definitive answer.)

Ethernet WAN (EWAN) port accepts connections from cable and fiber modems via Ethernet cable

        • VDSL modem for FTTC is supplied by nbn.

          Since when…?

        • Yes confirmed it can work in wireless router only mode and it has a WAN port on the modem. Well I have the Archer D7 setup connected to a VDSL2 modem but on FTTN. It would work just as well on FTTC too.

  • Tried placing an order but checkout always adds shipping even though picture confirms free shipping :(

    • Thanks to Ash from W1, shipping costs should be resolved now.

I bought a few units of the TP-Link Archer D7 from Officeworks on clearance for $15 each a few days ago i kid you not. If your local Officeworks still has any left in stock it should be still $15. Now that's a huge bargain.

I have it setup in WAN in router only mode connected to a VDSL2 modem. It has been rock solid with the latest available firmware.

  • I have bought this on 2015-12-30 for AUD 165.00. Still running every day, never had a problem with it, one laptop connected direct, the other laptop and the SONY TV wireless, no interference.
I am still on ADSL, NBN should be installed this year.

    • If you get on NBN FTTP then all you will need to do is get it connected to the WAN port from the connection box and switch the Archer D7 over to wireless router only mode and all should be well. The modem is fully NBN FTTP ready.

      • Thanks for the info, that's good to know

  • I paid $89 for the D7 a week ago from wireless 1😢
Using as a router for FTTP, just a little fiddly to set up but it works brilliantly. Literally saw a 25% speed increase compared to my 2 year old D-link router.

    • I feel for you as you could have got one from Officeworks for $15 a week ago if they had stock.

But it is a great modem router.

  • Anyone know if this works fine with Getflix and setting up static routes?

I'm currently on ADSL2+ but apparently will be moving to HCF later on this year, but I need something now as my current Billion ADSL router is dying.

  • Damn, seems like I missed out on the Blue Cave - coupon code showing as not valid any more
