Good deal. But I'd still go with the Flint 2 if I was looking to buy another router.

Positives for asus are ease of use.

But i agree, anyone who needs more than the ISP one should learn openwrt.

      • TBH having gone from ASUS to a flint 2 recently, gl.inet's UI over the top of openwrt was pretty straightforward. Didn't have to delve into the openwrt interface for anything.

        • Their version though uses some closed source blobs.

Not everyone is comfortable with a direct import mainland china router's firmware.

To my knowledge, nothing bad has been found, but LUCI takes less than half an hour to learn, and near ensures your safety.

    • Waiting for Wifi7 version in April

    • Flint is 4x4 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz
      Asus is 2x2 2.4ghz & 3x3 5Ghz

      For anyone curious

How do people find the Flint with the Mediatek chipset? In my experience, anything that uses as Mediatek chipset is trash…

      • Gl iNet had heaps of issues with the WiFi chipset, they faffed around with it for ages and treated the whole community like beta testers.
I believe the issue has been resolved now, but my Flint 2 is in the top of my wardrobe. I got too annoyed with it, but at least I have a spare now.

I think the fix to get it working was to release a "new" firmware version with an old version of OpenWRT that has a different WiFi driver.

If you don't mind old OpenWRT then I am sure this router is now reliable enough to use on a daily basis.

I think I'll stick with using Asus routers in that case lmao. Cheers for the reply.

      It’s sold by Amazon Germany.

      • May I know what is the different? Power adapter?

        • I believe european wifi strength is half the amount as compared to australian sold routers

          • @ahxching: is this because of health concerns? ya'll should look into that

          • +1

@ahxching: I've got the GT-AX6000 from Germany and no issues with it. I've modified the power output via a script that runs at boot.
I live in a 3x2 triplex though, not a 5x2 with a massive back yard.

I'm in the very rear unit furtherest away from the street and I can still get 5Ghz WiFi signal at my letterbox, I also have a Reolink WiFi CCTV camera mounted outside up on the gutter and no issues with that either.

I think running the script to modify the power output does make a difference, but it's not a night and day type difference.

            It's a really good router.

        • I thought there were concerns about certain channels being restricted in different countries. Not sure.

          • @vorsprung: Its limitation from the hardware or firmware?

            • @fatice: Assume it’s just firmware.

Also, I assume you can just switch off auto-channel selection and select an allowed channel.

              Lots of assumptions.

Someone will come along soon and know it all.

2.5gbs wan but only 1gbs lan? Seems a bit daffy?

    • I doubt anyone buying this router (in Aus) can even get more than 1gbps internet.

If they can, and when 2gbps NBN comes along… depending on how it works internally this could mean that all wired clients share 2.5gbps WAN, so 2 clients could get 1gbps, and the third 500mbps for example.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the internals only support 1gbps across all four lan ports though. Of course, I could be full of crap.

  • What NBN speed is it suited for?

      The overpriced underperforming package

I have tuf ax6000 which may not be the exact same, on opticomm 250/25. Runs great. And has this useful VPN fusion that allows you to bind certain devices on VPN connections.

Wan port supports up to 2.5Gbs

I have this router for over a year now and it has been running really well - wifi reaches most throughout a 750 square metre with wooden house
Tried 1000mb speed internet and wifi next to the router was about 980mb, wifi speed all over the house had really good speeds

A relative has this aswell and wifi reaches well over a 500 metre square block with brick house

  • If I was purchasing today and had to choose, think I'd pay the extra $48 and go with the GL.iNet GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) - they often pop up on special for around $188 as well.

  • Can Mac spoofing be stopped using this? Pardon my ignorance.

i got the better version of this (AX5400) for cheaper off an eBay OEM seller. I just went and checked and they are still selling it

      eBay AU? Link please?

    • @gorge Thanks for the link. Is this made for the AU market? Did it come with an AU plug?

      • +1

No. It has a US plug but doesn't require a voltage converter. It comes with an adapter for the plug

        • Thanks so much, @gorge.

  • This oe mesh?

  • what is the cheapest that can do multiple vlans?
