  • I don't usually make comments like this, but "Tug Gaming" is pretty funny. Good deal anyway.

  • Nothing on the specs about Fingerprint reader (so assume none?) or expandability of the SSD - is it a socketed M2, are there any other M2 slots?

    Anyone know?

[EDIT] - okay the linked teardown states no FP reader and shows the SSD on what looks like a standard M2 socket.

After seeing quite a few complains about their other Zenbook S 16, don't know if it worth the risk …

      • +1

Can't this be adjusted from the Windows Update settings? Pretty sure you can turn off auto update. If you have already done that and the computer still updates itself, that's a problem.

He is definitely not the best tech advisor as per his name….

          • +2

@McMaferMur: It's not Windows settings, the laptop is buggy as hell. It's not just me, a quick Google search will show they're riddled with issues.

        • +1

Auto update is off, it's not windows, it's the MyASUS app.

          • @besttechadvisor: So delete the MyASUS app. It's bloatware just like any other laptop.

You go by the name besttechadvisor and yet you seem stumped by a simple uninstall function.

This may sound a bit harsh but damn you've been bitching about this on so many threads now.

            • @TrixX306: Because I still want those updates to address the plethora of other issues they're attempting fix.

I get that I can go and find those driver updates manually periodically but that's not something I should have to do.

You say I'm bitching, I say I'm warning people. I suspect there's a reason that deals for these specific devices keep popping up.

        • Thanks for the suggestion, but no, it was not a Windows update. It was a driver update being pushed down from ASUS via the MyASUS app.

It's a problem. It shouldn't be doing that.

      • +4

That's more of a Windows issue rather than an Asus one…

        • And partially user error; they obviously haven't configured the 'active hours' yet so Windows doesn't know when it can/can't update the device…

          • +2

@CrispyChrispy: No, it's MyASUS, not a Windows update. I don't have automatic 'active hours ' set, because I've manually set my hours.

Edit: And it restarted, without warning, during the default active hours anyway. So, no, it had nothing to do with that, it was MyASUS App being buggy af updating the AMD Graphics Driver (I'm checking the update history) like it's done so many times to address the plethora of issues this device has.

Ahh yes, blame a software problem on the hardware. Genius!

While we're at it, the radio in my car today played Taylor Swift. I'll never buy a Honda ever again.

        • +1

This is such a silly comment.

If you buy an aftermarket car radio that plays the incorrect music, it doesn't matter whether it's Kenwood's hardware, firmware, or software that's the issue. Fact is, the device doesn't perform as it should.

  • Maybe it's not just the Lenovo S 16 ?

  • Specs look good except I'm not a fan of the marketing hype behind making everything AI in name

Is this processor actually good? What normal name processor would it be comparable to?

    • +2

It's one of the best mobile processors available, as is it's iGPU.

      • Well if it can run Ubuntu and a few virtual machines then that's all that matters to me. 10 Cores sounds good. I've got a Ryzen 5950x with 16 cores in my desktop PC but I'm looking for a laptop that's powerful but still lightweight. Gaming laptops are over kill

I am waiting for the Zenbook A14 to be released in Australia.

This would be a good laptop if it had better battery life than the MacBook Air, but it doesn’t.

    • Does anything have better battery life than a Macbook Air?

    • Only Lunar lake (intel Core ultra 2xx) series can match the Macbook from the x86 side of the fence, the Oled screen and 16inch size, along with the AMD chip (which is pretty powerful with a great igpu) in this will get you good but not elite level battery life like a macbook.

      • True but that is 8 core this is 12 core. Laptops with AMD Kraken Point should be coming soon with us more of a direct competitor with LL.

        • well yeh but the point was battery life :) … so assuming raw compute power isn't a factor.

I wouldn't pay 1799 for something vivobook tier.

The ceraluminum Zenbooks are barely midrange in terms of build quality, the vivobook is a step down from that.

The vivobook keyboards are also frankly terrible, even compared to other lower midrange stuff like the yoga slim ~$1100 and acer swift ~$1300 lines they feel absurdly cheap.

Asus has somehow made a metal laptop that feels like it is made out of ABS plastic.

Have to agree, I'm interested and need a laptop but not quite there with this price.
This is a Samsung OLED screen, does anyone know how it is for eyestrain?

Rep will you adjust your eBay listing to the same price?

      • Not sure about the Vivo, but on the ZenBook the screen is great… when it's not flickering, going black, or wildly adjusting the brightness up and down.
