3 Months Xbox Live Gold Plus 800 Points - $15

170

This deal came up on the dashboard of a silver account I have, but not on my gold sub.

Not bad if you are only after 3 months.

Points must be used by 31st December 2011.

Be aware you have to use a credit card, and then you must call M$ to cancel the auto renew…I have done this before, and it is a fairly painless 5 minute call ; )

  • I want to buy this just to tide me over for a bit because I dont want to buy 12months. But I dont want to have to call MS to cancel the auto renew…

    • you can remove your card details online at xbox.com.au

I had to call up to cancel my Gold subscription last week. They said the only way to cancel auto renew is to call them up.

        • Yeah you cant do it online ive tried before

        • only way i could do it last year as well

        • That's right. Only way in via phone..

        • Takes less than 5 minutes and it's a free call. Pretty easy.

        • or instead of using ur credit card with MS (hard to cancel) you can buy XBL subscription online from gamecard.com.au, for much cheaper too

  • I think this is a fantastic offer. It works out to be $5 a month for unlimited online play. I don't have gold membership and have always been interested in getting a premium membership for some multiplay action. My only problem is a logistics one - running a CAT5E cable through my house into my room is really unattractive and unsightly, and I don't wanna start drilling holes, and I don't wanna buy a proprietary wifi receiver. Maybe I will relocate my console and TV downstairs closer to my router :p

Also what is the equivalent cash value of 800MS points? Can it get you a typical DLC/game add-on?
Can you cancel auto-renewal as soon as you register and pay?

Thanks in advance for the help :)

    • You can cancel auto renew straight away but you have to call them, you will still be able to use Gold for 3 months.

800 MS points are worth about $10.

    • +2

      400MS ~= $5 give or take.

I guess you can get a cheapish game add-on for 800MS. You'd be hard set to get a newish XBLA game for 800MS though.

I've had XBLA Gold for years, but I don't play adversarial multiplayer, Xbox just has too much lag in Australia (I live in Brisbane, and my friends in SYD) and makes it unplayable. I only play co-op over Xbox Live. If you are intent on adversarial multiplayer, just be aware of the lag issue so that you won't be disappointed.

wolfenator, id consider updating your console

      1: bigger hdd
      2: wifi console
3: fewer cabling for kinect if your into it

the biggest advantage to me if the lack of worrying about getting rrod of im going to play a lot, you dont have to worry about your discs getting scratched and it makes less noise in general, the slims arent perfect but a lot better

      • I have both a launch 360 20gb which I paid $650 for at midnight as well as a Jasper elite I bought about a year ago. Both still work perfectly not problems at all. I think they look better than the slim anyway.

        • i had a red elite 120gb and it worked fine, but rrod was always in the back of my mind

        • I also have a launch 360. RROD'd twice. Both times I just boxed it up and sent it down to Sydney and it was fixed and back to me in Brissy within 4 or 5 days with a free month of XBL Gold attached. Easily my most painless experience with Microsoft… ever.

      • there is a 3 year warranty for RROD anyway..

      • I only bought my first 360 console(an elite 120GB) about a year ago, just before the Slim model launched. I am very happy with it and it works fine. I'm not all that concerned about RROD issues because my console only gets used a few hours per week(light usage) and it is covered with a 3yr RROD guarantee by MS just in case it does fail. Some cynical individuals say "it is just a matter of WHEN it is going to fail", but from my experience, my friend's launch arcade has only RROD'ed once in its almost five year lifespan and it gets used like a work horse every day. Agreed that the bigger HDD is a nice perk to preload all my games for faster loads and the built-in WIFI will probably be too slow and laggy for hardcore multiplay. Kinect - I don't even believe in that gimmick add-on, hate it even more than 3D. I'm too old school to even contemplate using my body as a controller and 3D just gives my severe eye strain after a while. If you don't move the console during operation - then your discs won't scratch!

I recently got a wireless Access Point for this, I think it was about $30 from MSY, but a lot of routers can also work as access points, if you have an old one lying around. Works quite well for me, and then you can use the same access point for other devices lacking WiFi.

      • hmmm, i'll def check this out.

        • If you have an old WiFi router lying around put DD-WRT custom firmware on it and then it will be able to bridge to a wifi connection. Thats what ive got :)

  • how long does it take to call em up and say you dont want the auto renew?

    • +1

Calling them is a painful process. I did it and you need to speak to someone in India (when you actually get through) and then it does take a while on the phone. It took me several goes as the first 2 people I spoke to were not aware how to do it. They say to do it through the website, but in fact that is not possible.
Also, they do not delete your credit card details. They infact just deactivate it. So if you have concerns about them holding your cc info because of what happened on the PSN then you will be concerned.
You will see a number of other posts saying the same thing.

That is utterly atrocious customer service. M$ should be shot for this.
I wonder if their Indian staff are totally inept/incompetent or are deliberately playing the 'ignorant card' as a tactic to make people say "too hard, give up!" and let them keep leeching your money. Data retention and storage of customers details is becoming a big problem with many of these all-powerful corporations who think they can act with impunity.

        Revolution calling!

  • Any way of getting this deal if you're already a Gold Member? I tried using two controllers, with the first logged into a silver account, but still couldnt get it to work.

  • I paid $12 for 3 months but no Points.. it was on the dashboard as usual (silver account)

    • Lol,
Yeah, I got suckered into that one as well…

      • still, it's 3 bucks cheaper, and if you don't want the points…

        • I paid 14.98 and got no points

        • I couldnt see where to get the points :(

    • With a name/tag like yours - your lucky they didn't 'Take-Out' your whole accont!

  • Can I use a prepaid visa would that stop auto renew?

    • If you have no money in there when the renew occurs.. But ive heard that can cause problems with your account.

      • wouldn't that cause a 'bounce' or some nasty 'bank dishonour fee'. I've had one before and let me tell you it is very frustrating.

        • I heard if that happens M$ can lock your account.. Dont quote me on that tho ive just heard.

  • Whats the telephone number you need to call to remove the auto renew off your CC?

  • Damn I just bought 12 months of Live 2 weeks ago!

If I get this will it just add on to my 12 months I already have?

  • did anyone here receive the 800 points?

from the 360 forums it looks like everyone is getting stooged, when people have been calling to complain they are saying that the offer never existed.

  • For those that are looking to buy this, here's some photos I took of the XBL screens:
The first one is the link from "Spotlight":

Once you've selected the link, here's the full screen details:

NOTE: As per the scrolling link in Marketplace, the 800 points go to map packs only!
If you're looking to pickup a map pack for CoD / Halo, this might be a goer, but as per the OP, credit card is required!
