Akai 5.1 Home Theatre System w/DVD & Media Player for $78.00 @ eSOLD

60
AKAI51FOR78

Hi,

Hope everyone had a great Easter… here's something from eSOLD which is great deal, best price I can find. We actually unpacked a set yesterday and gave them a thumping - the subby puts out a really nice deep and punchy sound with plenty of definition and rumble. Thumbs up.

The spec as always + extra info is on our page - basically a 5.1 Home Theatre setup for the budget conscious, doesn't claim to compete with $1000+ all optical systems but certainly gives the $100-150 Logitech's X540's etc a run for their money, with the bonus of a DVD/Media Player on top! Claim is 40W RMS which is loud enough for most living rooms - I'm like most people in thinking claimed outputs are always much higher than achievable, without measuring equip all I can say is this unit was able to pump pretty hard for its size.

Comes with a DVD Player unit which has a USB input that can also handle most popular media formats, didn't have problems with any of the DivX/XViD we threw at it. Didn't have an MKV wrapped high resolution file to try sorry although it says 'MP4' support.

Freight to VIC is $7.95, to most other destinations in Australia around $12.95 as these units are fairly heavy - still by far the best price I could find around on something of this quality and branding. APPLY THE COUPON 'AKAI51FOR78' TO GET $10.00 OFF OUR LIST PRICE OF $88.00.

Lists @ 'oo.com.au' for $99.95 + more expensive freight - I heard on the radio today their ad claims they are the "best prices in Australia"… shrug… I guess not :)

Guess you can't go wrong for $78.
However, I am skeptical of 'certainly gives $200-$300 Logitech's etc a run for their money!'.
    Comparing apples to oranges.

      $300 ($290 on LTS) Logitech's have 505 watts RMS.
Certainly kills the 40 RMS these claim.

      • In all fairness, z-5500's haven't always been under $300…it wasn't so long ago they were closer to their ridiculous RRP! ;)

Fluidtek/LTS have certainly had an impact in the marketplace! :)

        • lol not really, got em for $475 no more than 3 months from their release from my local computer store. Easily found for under $400 before LTS came in, which is well worth it. (not saying that LTS/fluidtek didn't have an impact)

        • (475-300)/300 = 58.33% more! Whilst I agree RRP =/= street price, I think the point's still valid dude! :)

Yeah I looked up the ones I was thinking of - the X-540's not the 5500's… changed it accordingly. Always keen to take input and advice from you guys, not here to mislead or push "rubbish" :) They did sound quite good.

  • 500 watts rms is a joke, lol why would you ever need that kind of power for such little speakers?? The power output of these speakers are just fine but I wonder about the fidelity, the construction and if they are engineered well enough to handle the sound vibration, not worth buying if your tv speakers sound better…

    • Yeah pretty much. Your eardrums would probably bleed at 500 watts. I've heard it only needs to hold 500 watts for a second before it blows up to shreds to be classified as 500 watts.

I reckon if you've spent a lot of money on your TV and you pair it with a set of speakers like this, it would be a waste :(
However, if it's a secondary TV you're connecting these to, then it's most likely that TV will have bad sound quality and $78 to provide …more loudless (at least lol) is a good deal.

hi rep!interested however got a question .is it real akai or just another rebadged product by Chinese manufacturer?

  • And if it matter its $77 lol, $1 cheaper

  • Just bought one. For that price you can't go wrong. Needed a second system for the kids TV. The extra $10 off is a bonus !. The web site states genuine Akai with Australian warranty. Only $8 delivery. Would cost me more than that to drive to the shop and back to get it.

It's obviously not a high end system but it will do for every day use. Thanks handelbert!!!

    "Hey kids… you've got surround sound …. "

  • On the website the package contents lists only FOUR speakers and a subwoofer.

    thats 5.1 in my book

    GST included (10%): $8.63
    Total: $84.95

    cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

  • It does now. It's been corrected since I looked. It seems like a decent DVD player. Can those speakers be used on a computer?

  • Just as a follow up i bought this and it fills a bed room fine, sound quality is pretty good, sound is controlled through the DVD player, dvd player has played h264 files created with the high profile in handbreak which is very good, no mp4 support though must be avi video output is good quality, 9 out of 10 for the price

Have yet to try large usb drives!
